  17.
  18. FUCK!!! I just had to get that out. So this world is basically becoming night of the living dead. Zombies are popping up. We are in New York which is currently falling to Zombies like many other places in the world.
  19.
  20. I was in a shelter but someone turned out to be secretly bitten and turned and that led to chaos. People panicked, doors were open that shouldn’t have been and we lost several people. Long story short the Shelter was no longer secure.
  21.
  22. I knew of a big mall nearby and there was our only hope. So we grabbed what we could and made a run for it.
  23.
  24. On the way there I awake to who I was and was able to help more but we still lost people. We made it to the mall. It’s one of the huge megamalls. This is almost cliché. Thankfully Nicholas and Pacman are here too now. Nicholas was able to set up some wards on the doors and for extra protection Pacman moved some heavy stuff in front of the doors. Nothing should get in.
  25.
  26. I have been trying to take control of the situation keep people’s sprits up as much as possible and keeping them calm with people suddenly having powers.
  27.
  28. I have already started to identify leaders in the group and delegating responsibilities, we have been succoring what supplies we can with food and weapons. Of the couple hundred survivors we have over a dozen with serious health problems. I’ll see what I can do about them.
  29.
  30. Now to the part that I haven’t been able to explain that really concerns me. The zombies stink of black magic. This isn’t some plague or alien organism. I would like to say that there is some comfort in that it’s familiar but to do this it would take a lot of power. So we have a powerful Necromancer trying to take over the world and they seem to have a good start on it.
  31.

  34. Journal # 6 Entry 2
  35.
  36. OK; so we have 247 people, not counting myself or my companions. 40 of those are children about a quarter too young to be of much help here. We half dozen Elderly who will be of limited help. And we have 247 people who are worried about loved ones and morning lost people. I have already begun assigning jobs to people to keep them busy and feeling like they are doing something.
  37.
  38. It’s kind of sad but in a crisis situation like this I find myself putting people in to categories. This person can be useful and capable. This person is going to be a drag and will require more resources than the other. I guess its part of crisis management but I hate looking at people like that. Even if that frame of mind is what will help us survive.
  39.
  40. I have been able to access my warehouse, the money now is meaningless but I do have my super heroic gear that will help and more importantly I have some robots that I used to use as lab assistants but are armed and fully capable of doing some of the more dangerous jobs like scavenge and clearing out areas.
  41.
  42. There are a few electronics stores here so I can get tools and build some more robots though parts are going to be limited. Most likely we are going to wind up with glorified roombas with weapons mounted on them. Still they can work as guards.
  43.
  44. I have already had Pacman do a sweep of the area around here since he can fly and has super senses. There are no living people around here anymore, plenty of undead though.
  45.
  46. Eventually I will expand out try and find more survivors as well as expand the size of my base here using cars and other materials to seal off streets.
  47.
  48. Unfortunately it’s not been two days and Pacman already seems to be getting bored and kind of itchy. He wants a fight and these zombies may as well be made of paper to him.
  49.
  50. Speaking of problems one of the survivors Lauren Peck seems to have taken exception to me taking a leadership role. She is a short, stout older woman with a big mouth. She is asking why us “Super heroes.” Didn’t do anything to stop this and why we should be in charge. She has a son that is currently missing. She is hurting, scared and angry and currently taking it out on us. The real problem is there isn’t a person here who doesn’t feel like that (Well maybe Nicholas and Pacman don’t they don’t have lives here). She could be a real problem and I don’t know what to do with her.
  51.
  52. Lastly there is going to be the problem of keeping the lights on. I suspect that it won’t be a few more days before the electricity stops. To keep electricity going it takes people continuing to show up to regulate things, right now the military is doing the best they can to secure those sites but it won’t be long by my estimates before they decide to cut their losses and pull out. No electricity means no water and a lot of other things.
  53.
  54. A mall is huge. I might be able to find some generators but they aren’t going to do much. If I had parts I could build a generator big enough for us but that won’t help with water. I could steal a generator from a hospital but right now people might need those. Anyways I am just trying to keep calm and look at what options I have. It would be nice if Miss Peck would shut the hell up for 10 minutes so I can think.
  55.

  57. Journal 6, Entry # 6
  58.
  59. Alright I just got up for a nap. After being up for I guess 4 days straight Nicholas reminded me little things like sleeping and eating aren’t optional. He always worries about me. I guess when I get caught up in a crisis and forget those sometimes. Honestly I feel like I have been neglecting him a bit too but this is a crisis that needs my full attention.
  60.
  61. A few projects have borne fruit. We now have outfitted part of the roof with solar cells liberated from some abandoned buildings and are starting to convert this mall to solar energy. It’s not ideal but it’s the best I can do under the circumstances.
  62.
  63. With the help of Pacman my robots have cleared out the streets and neighboring buildings and we have barricaded them off with cars.
  64.
  65. Something I feel silly for not mentioning before but for some reason my old castle from Shrek’s Swamp is next door to the mall. It’s just there. It looks strange as hell in the middle of New York but it’s been added to our territory.
  66.
  67. I have also gotten hold of a short wave radio so we are in contact with some survivors and the government. Things are going to hell right now so we aren’t getting any help. They have given me the location of the nearest shelters if I need it but there is a horde of zombies between us and them. So far the only good news is that the military is able to keep the power on and so far they don’t seem to be ready to drop a nuke on us.
  68.
  69. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this plague has spread practically too every major metropolis in the world. It seemed to be hitting the densely populated areas first but now it is spreading in to more secluded areas. Supply chains are broken. Thanks to something I picked up in my second world we have effectively infinite food from Burger King so we can sustain ourselves indefinitely on that end. It’s almost like food. Still we have already raided a garden supply place for soil and seeds and I have a few people who kept gardens setting one up. So we can produce our own food and I do not have to stay here.
  70. Also we have a number of diabetics and while we were able to secure some insulin again it’s not going to last very long. I am not sure if my med bay can cure diabetes but I will find out if things come to it.
  71.
  72. Things I need right now is a decent lab, More robots. More combat trained people for eventual excursions in to the city and A decent cup of coffee…
  73.
  74. One more thing because that’s not enough of course, Pacman has been getting very irritable, I have promised to build him something worth fighting if we can’t find anything. I figure if I can build something strong enough to be his playmate it will add to our defenses.
  75.
  76. Sadly right now that’s all I can do is play defense. We need to find the source of this and stop the plague but I can’t do much until I get these people stabilized.
  77.
  78.
  79. Journal 6 # 15
  80.
  81. Alright, I have set up a decent lab/ workshop by scouring the labs and electronics shops in the area. I have trained a small group on how to assemble robots. Things are looking up.
  82.
  83. In secret with the help of Nicholas I have studied a few of the zombies and learned a few things. This is a nasty curse. It appears to be localized to an area to start but quickly spreads. Which means this is a spell or likely a ritual that has been done many times over the world by now.
  84.
  85. In the area any human that dies will rise as a zombie. The zombies carry the taint of death like a poison which becomes quite lethal, and anyone infected with the curse they carry in them will rise as a zombie whether they are in the area of the curse or not. We are instituting a cremation policy here. Other places already have done so.
  86.
  87. These zombies are exceptionally weak to the light magic of Nicholas and myself. This is not surprising as they are created by black magic… speaking of which though untested but if we are able to break the curse before someone dies we should be able to prevent someone from becoming a zombie.
  88.
  89. In other news Lauren Peck is still being obnoxious. I thought by giving a position of authority in being one of the managers of the survivors needs for us, would sooth her. She is still bossy and a loudmouth acting like she is in charge of the Survivors. It’s not a big problem yet but it could wind up one. Pacman just wants to toss her to the zombies and call it a day but I have told him many times we can’t do that… It would be bad for moral. Also yeah it would be wrong.
  90.
  91. Anyways with the information we have gathered after this place is stabilized we are going to head out to break the curse. Unfortunately we will still have to kill all the zombies individually but it will prevent the area from spreading further. After that it will just be a matter of going to each place that has been affected and finding the heart of the curse and breaking it until the one who is behind this decided to show themselves.
  92.
  93. Nicholas tells me if he understands the curse better he may be able to find a way to destroy all the zombies affected by it within the area but that will take more study.
  94.
  95.
  96. Journal 6 # 17
  97.
  98. Finally some progress. Things around here are stable enough that we were able to make a few extended trips to see if we could locate the heart of the spell.
  99.
  100. On a hunch we went to New York City the most populated city of New York. I thought we would wind up at the largest graveyard there but It turns out Nicholas was correct (So I owe him… well [Redacted]) and we ended up at a building right across from the largest Hospital in the city.
  101.
  102. The place reeked of so much black magic it almost made me sick getting close to it. It’s a now abandoned sky scraper.
  103.
  104. We noticed several… things on the roof. I can’t. I could see them clearly but they looked like lumps of flesh filled with multiple mouths between two sets of large bat wings. I couldn’t see any eyes on them but we dared not get any closer without some more information and possibly back up.
  105.
  106.
  107. We have no idea what’s in there. I don’t know this worlds magic (or even that it was supposed to have magic) so there could be anything. I have already liberated the plans for the building from city hall. Who knows if they are still valid but they give us a point to start from for our plan.
  108.
  109.
  110.
  111. Journal # 6 Entry 21
  112.
  113. I am not sure how to describe what I have been through but I’ll do my best to describe it here. Hopefully that will help me to get it out of my system.
  114.
  115. I planned the assault on the skyscraper across from the hospital. We decided to go in from the room because likely there would be less resistance even though we so those creatures there.
  116.
  117. It was a team consisting of myself, Nicholas and a half dozen of the robots. I didn’t want to take more robots because it would weaken the defense of the base too much.
  118.
  119. Our journey almost ended before it began as when we got close to the rooftops the creatures all opened their mouths and screamed in a horrid cacophony of voices. It was painful and disorientating. Likely Nicholas and myself would have fallen to our deaths had it not been for the robots that caught us.
  120.
  121. The robots were immune to the disorientating effect and quickly took care of the creatures. It was a trap I should have seen coming and a reminder not to take what we found there lightly.
  122.
  123. Nicholas applied an extra layer of wards to the two of us against black magic and mental attack and we entered.
  124.
  125. The entire building was illuminated by red light generated by veins of red energy that ran through the entire building and pulsed like it was alive.
  126.
  127. As we entered the stench was overwhelming and Nicholas had to barrow an extra rebreather.
  128.
  129. We encounter things… perverse things that looked to be made of half melted flesh and bones. Some spit acidic blood. Others attacked with claws. It was a grotesque display.
  130.
  131. We managed to make it down but lost a few robots along the way.
  132.
  133. We encountered a wall of flesh with faces that screamed and begged for release. As we got closer tendrils of flesh reached out and tried to pull us in. Thankfully it was vulnerable to light magic. We were able to put those souls to rest.
  134.
  135. By this time it had become apparent that this place likely hadn’t been abandoned during the Zombie infestation… likely the person who did this had used the people here as raw components for their atrocities.
  136.
  137. Finally we made it to the 13th floor.
  138.
  139. The walls, the ceiling and floor were all covered in flesh that thumped rhythmically like a heartbeat.
  140.
  141. At the center of the floor we found a giant disgusting heart about the size of a man floating inside a magic circle. Around the circle were a half dozen pentagrams that looked to be made in fresh blood.
  142.
  143. As soon as we entered the room fire sprang from the Pentagrams and huge red skinned demons with glowing eyes exited the flames.
  144.
  145. Thankfully demons are vulnerable to light magic because they were remarkably tough and vicious. The last of the robots that came with us were destroyed but we managed to vanquish the demons.
  146.
  147. We studied the heart and the circle a while trying to figure out how it worked and how to destroy it in a way that not only stopped the spell but destroyed the zombies that had been created by it.
  148.
  149. We figured it out (I’ll admit it was mostly Nicholas who figured it out) we managed to destroy the heart and the circle. Things went dark as the building seemed to die.
  150.
  151. We returned to the base to find things had gotten pretty quiet in the outside world. A check on the radio confirmed we had done it. All the zombies in New York had gone inert at the same time.
  152.
  153.
  154.
  155. Journal 6, Entry # 23
  156.
  157. It’s kind of funny but I think solving the zombie problem has caused almost as much chaos as the zombie invasion itself. Many people are still staying in the base at the moment. Things are in chaos as people try and reconnect with lost loved ones. We have had a few heart-warming reunions where people they thought were gone forever were reunited. We have also had a few heart breaking tragedies come light. Laura Peck learned the fate of her son and unfortunately it wasn’t good. For as big a pain in the ass as she was she didn’t deserve that.
  158.
  159. Things are in a state of chaos while things have improved greatly here and people are trying to get back to normal. Things continue to slide further in to chaos in the rest of the world. They are sending experts to figure out what happened here and no doubt soon they will stumble across what I have done here in the base but I doubt they will be able to put together the full story. Things could be awkward in the days to come.
  160.
  161. While all of this is important, we are on the cusp of something that may actually save this world Nicholas and I have been able to rig up a locator spell for the hearts of these curses. Two spells actually one involving a map of the world to give use a general idea as to their location and number and one a city wide spell to pin down their location further. We are intending to strike as fast as we can. Because the Zombie threat is gone we can pull off more robots and hopefully have an easier time. The only problem is that it’s not going to be long before the person or persons behind this react and make things harder.
  162. Anyways we need to move fast for that reason. We are going to hit the one in New Jersey tomorrow.
  163.
  164.
  165.
  166. Journal 6, Entry 36
  167.
  168. Some days I wish brain bleach was a real thing. In these past weeks of destroying these cursed hearts I have seen some truly horrible things that I never want to see again.
  169.
  170. It only makes sense that when we finally found the lair of the Necromancer all that would be turned up to 11. We fought living mountains of muscle that exploded in acidic blood when they died. Horrible things inhabited by tortured souls begging for the release of final death even as we fought them. We fought things that were turned inside out for no foreseeable reason, Things that were stitched together from parts of animals.
  171.
  172. When we finally made it to the throne room of this… I don’t even know what to call him, He was happily waiting for us.
  173.
  174. He was excited; He said he hadn’t had someone to share his art with in ages. This twisted shit was his art…
  175.
  176. He was powerful he went on his monologue of how humans were useless and he was improving the world by getting rid of them as they were only good as canvases for his art and they didn’t need to be alive for that.
  177.
  178. We killed him and killed him and killed him again and his spirit would just migrate to another corpse.
  179.
  180. Eventually it was Nicholas who figured out his spell and figured out how to slip a ward on to his body binding his soul to the current corpse where he was.
  181.
  182. That got his attention and the battle started for real as he tried to break the ward.
  183.
  184. We fought our way through his army of atrocities that he summoned, dodged beams that would likely have killed us immediately if they touched us, managed to avoid a spell I am told that would have forced our skeletons to rip their way out of our bodies.
  185.
  186. Eventually we did it and I was physically and mentally exhausted. With that, with his or it’s death more accurately… all of the zombies are gone. I am tired, there is a lot of chaos from the world almost ending but I need a break.
  187.
  188. Journal 6, Entry 38
  189.
  190. Alright it seems the bastard is really dead and with him all of the zombies. I kind of pity normal people here they woke up one day to an impossible zombie plague happening. It looked like the world was going to end and then… It just went away.
  191.
  192. People are resilient though, it seems as though society is rebuilding itself. Maybe what they will make will be stronger than what it was before as people come to see that in a crisis they need each other and need to work together. Who knows I am leaving it up to them. I have lead countries before. I even did it through some turbulent times but right now I choose to have faith in the people. I need a break.
  193.
  194. Personally it’s been nice to spend time with Nicholas. I even finally built something that can give Pacman a decent fight. So I guess things are going well. I think when my break is done here we are going to become paranormal investigators. There is magic in this world obviously and we need to find out more about it. Both to learn what we can of it and to make sure no other zombie plagues happen.
