  1. I started out 2017, by training five of our new employees and a long term employee. I trained Mike Stein in Control 52 ops from Jan. 9th-Jan. 12th. I also trained Chris Carlo Jan. 9th-Jan. 13th during his first week at CNN. I also trained Chris Hardy on January 16th and 17th and Tom Gesner from January 17th-20th. I also trained Frank O Rourke January 18th and 19th. I set up Show Manager for all of them so that they could use Digital Display. I also taught them how to use the Fusion System, robo panel, how to route, use the Pap Panel and RTS panel and how to use the Avita system. I also taught them about proper mic and IFB'ing techniques, lighting, staging, how to shade a camera including using skin detail and how to contact engineering and IT if needed. On 3/29, I showed Frank O'Rourke how to shade video. I taught Frank about color saturation, how to use the multi matrix, how to select a color using phase, how to select and adjust skin detail and how to add and subtract red from the whites. On Thursday, March 23rd, I taught Mike Stein how to read Show Mgr, an overview of CTL 52 and how to recall a scene file, adjust skin detail, hue, color sat and adjust the color of the whites on the MSU. ON 3/31, I showed Chris Carlo how to use the Avita System in MVID. Chris couldn't log on so I went to MVID, showed him how to log on and route the Avita channels. I cross trained Frank O'Rourke again on 4/19. I taught Frank how to mic and IFB a guest addressing different clothing situations and showed him how to clean and swap out ear buds. I told him which equipment we have takes high definition sources, analog sources and digital sources, how to route black to each and under what situations you would do that.

  3. I made sure that proper lighting made air. On 2/13, I alerted Lighting to Cross Key Situation in Studio 53. I told lighting that we had multiple nose shadows in Studio 53 making it look as if it were cross keyed. Rachel Crane was in the chair when I noticed. Two days later, the same problem persisted. Maggie Lake was in Studio 53 and they cross key situation had not been fixed leaving to double nose shadows. I talked to Josh and told him that it looked like the key light had fallen and the hot spot was too low. On 3/28, I noticed that we were shooting at a 4.0 in Studio 52 for the Erin Burnett Cue. Normally we shoot at a 2.8. I had to add a lot of chroma so she didn't look washed out. I informed lighting and they adjusted the level. On 4/28, there was a lamp out in a camera left zip light in Flash 52. I noticed it during my morning dimmer checks and alerted the lighting department. On 5/19, I alerted lighting to lamp out in zip light backlight in Flash 52. On 7/31, during my morning dimmer checks, I noticed lamp outage. I alerted lighting to the CFL outage in Studio 54. On 9/15, I noticed holes in the key light diffusion in Flash 53. I alerted lighting to this problem. I spotted it during my morning dimmer checks. On 9/28, I noticed the same diffusion was burnt through again. Again, in Flash 53 alerted lighting to a hole in the diffusion and to the fact that a label had fallen off a fixture in Flash 52 and it still wasn't replaced. I suggested flooding the key light to lessen the light's intensity.

  5. I caught three mistakes on lower thirds this year. ON 12/20/16, I noticed that "families" was spelled "familes" live on CNN. I alerted the director and they fixed it. On 1/31 on Amanpour the chyron read "Turkish Purges Leave Weak Military". I told the director and they fixed it. On 12/11, I alerted the HLN director that they were missing beginning quotes on the chyron for "The Shape of Water".

  7. I attended many lunch and learns this year. On 2/9, I used my lunch break to attend a video conference about Richard Griffith's career on the eve of his retirement. On 3/30, I attended Attended "The World of CNN" explaining the corporate structure of CNN. On 4/26, I attended the first half of the Lunch and Learn about the Syrian Conflict with Clarissa Ward. I watched a riveting and powerful package and heard how she embedded herself with rebels during the ongoing conflict and how she transmitted her stories under those circumstances. On 6/15, I attended a Talk with Van Jones. Presented by Black Professionals at Turner, Van Jones recounted his early career and how important it is to bridge the divide. On 6/20, I attended "An Inside Look: Creating a Documentary" with the producers of the Cosby documentary discussing the process from conception through research, writing, production planning, shooting and editing. On 6/21, I attended Time Warner's Lunchtime Conversation with Sheila Nevins, which was an intimate reading and conversation with the President of HBO Documentary Films to discuss her new book, You Don’t Look Your Age… and Other Fairytales. I went to An Inside Look: Newsource on 10/11 where I learned about the symbiotic relationship between CNN and its network affiliates. It covered the business model, how that model is changing under growing consolidation within the industry and how news is shared between CNN and its affiliates. On 10/18, I attended An Inside Look: CNN Library and learned about the history and uses of the library. I now know about how they can assist with obits, original films, outside productions and CNN's day-to-day programming.

  9. Times when I went above and beyond the expectations of my day to day duties was on 5/30 when I did a greenscreen shoot with Doug Shapiro, VP and Chief Strategy Officer. I helped coordinate the shoot to ensure talent got to makeup and worked with worked with Calla Videt, Corporate Strategy Manager to get a good read out of Doug. I rolled on the record, checked audio levels, hung the green screen and worked with prompter op to put a hold on the clip so it wouldn't be erased. On 6/15, I attended the beta testing for the new version of the Remedy Program per Ann Woodward's request. I had already submitted suggestions on how to improve the program but I worked with the beta program and provided feedback via videoconference. On 6/15, per the producer's request, I floor managed a two-person shoot with General McChrystal and his writer. I adjusted IFB's and adjusted the height of chairs for a more even two shot. On 7/5, I created a posting for camera transmission lines down to Atlanta because in order to raise audio levels on look lives, it is necessary to put cameras on lines. Since sometimes this information is missing in Show Manager, I created a posting showing what lines the cameras are normally going down.

  11. On 6/7, I was accepted to participate in the inaugural year of the New York Chapter of the Turner Corporate Responsibility Council. Attended the first meeting where I pitched working with 2 New York City based non-profits that I am familiar with: Publicolor and Project Cicero. On 6/6, after my work shift, I attended Gordon Parks Foundations Awards Dinner and Auction as part of the Turner Corporate Responsibility Council. I networked with other employees from Time Warner and Turner. On 6/17, I attended Alvin Ailey at Lincoln Center and met one of the outreach coordinators and discussed ways that the Corporate Responsibility Council might work with them to achieve the council's goals. On 9/18, I did a pre-volunteer day interview with the coordinator of the non-profit that I brought to the table as part of Turner Volunteer Day. I am the Project Leader for this which will bring up to 10 employees to paint with and mentor high school students in beautifying a low-income public school. On 10/24, I was the Team Leader for Publicolor as Part of Turner Volunteer Day. I brought non-profit organization Publicolor (I was familiar with them through working as a freelancer with them 15 years ago teaching videography to high school students) to the Corporate Responsibility Committee of which I am a member of in its inaugural year in New York. Coordinated with CRC in Atlanta, employees in New York and the non-profit. Spoke in front of 200 people after the event describing the non-profit and our experiences working painting the inside of a high school serving high poverty students. Between 11/1 and 12/12 I organized Tour of Publicolor High School Students to Visit CNN Jan. 22nd. With Bill McLoughlin's approval, set up date for 12 high school students to visit CNN. Lined up speakers to talk about their career and education with the students.
