Queen Liverpool 1977 description

Here's another ADATR show. This is a recording of the second of two nights at the Empire Theater in Liverpool. Unfortunately, we only have the first half of the show (through "'39", which is cut). The sound quality fluctuates throughout the show, from very good in some spots to pretty bad in others. I helped it by correcting speed (ran a half-semitone fast), and EQing it to bring out the sound more.

The band's performances are great as ever, and the audience is very enthusiastic (maybe a bit TOO much- they clap off beat on a lot of the songs!). Being near the end of the tour, Freddie's voice shows some signs of fatigue, but is still in good shape overall.

"Tie Your Mother Down" isn't quite as good as some other versions on this leg of the tour, but it's still good with Freddie hitting several of the A4s well (though he cracks "put a STOP to all that" again), "Ogre Battle" is decent, but Freddie does weird conservative phrasing in spots (mostly in the bridge) and dodges the "forever MORE" A4 (plus Brian makes up some guitar parts in the bridge), "White Queen" has some intonation issues in spots, but sounds very good overall with Freddie doing some nice embellishments in spots, "Somebody to Love" is a good conservative version, with Brian adding nice guitar lines to the vocal section and Freddie acing the breakdown Bb4, "Killer Queen" is very good sans Freddie doing weird oversinging on "Met a man from China", "Good-Old Fashioned Lover Boy" is very good with Freddie singing with added aggression in the "hey boy, where'd you go" section, "The Millionaire Waltz" sounds great vocally, but Brian has a guitar error during the solo "You're My Best Friend" is great, and "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" sounds good (plus the crowd goes wild during Brian's banjolele solo).

"Death on Two Legs" has Freddie fall flat on the "ALL my money" Bb4, but sounds good overall with Freddie acing the "overgrown schoolboy" Bb4s, and then comes a change in the setlist! "Sweet Lady" is dropped, and in it's place we have none other than "Doing All Right"! It has some intonation issues in spots, but overall sounds very good. "Brighton Rock" has some intonation issues in spots as well, but goes pretty good with a great guitar solo, and "'39" ends what we have of the recording by sounding good (though it seems like Freddie's mic dies at one point in the first verse).
