- Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer and Carroll Quigley’s Tragedy & Hope are two non-fiction books
- Neal Stephenson’s Zodiac and Orwell’s Animal Farm fiction.
- The Road by Cormac McCarthy
- The Expanse series. Expertly written prose and characters, and all around great science fiction. All of the books are excellent, though Nemesis Games is my personal favorite (does require the previous books). The first book is likely my second favorite of the series and was deserving of the Hugo Award nomination.

- The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss
- Never felt like skipping paragraphs once.
- Two WWII books for their personal stories..
- "Here is Your War" by Ernie Pyle
- and
- "They Were Expendable" by WL White
- The first covers the US Army battles in Northern Africa. Many first hand stories, individuals named, and so on.
- The second covers six US Navy MTBs in the Philippines. All six were destroyed in battle but had some success against the Japanese. Again, very personal stories.
- The second one has no chapters & is hard to put down once you start reading.
