When Angels Cry

He was right there. She was within reach. He only needed to close the gap. And yet. The demon's sword ran her through, pulling itself back out of the fair maiden and shoving her into his arms as he caught her. The ends of her white locks and her once beautiful dress now staining red before him, her fair, beautiful face contorted in pain before opening them, the worried, grief stricken young man before her cradled her body as if it were cracked glass. His blue eyes held back grief and pain, his brows furrowed with fear as his once blonde hair kept in a ponytail now was unbound, draping slightly over his shoulders."Rie! Rie I- I'll save you! I... it's..." Words caught in his throat as he held back tears, trembling as he felt her life gradually slip away. His breath hitched, his mind swirled with thoughts. Something, anything! He had to save her! She was dying! He closed his eyes tight as he held her close, uttering a prayer, nay, a plea of help, Rie couldn't die, not now! "Please... Gods... If you can hear me... Save her PLEASE!" He yelled out, his emotions swelling as he felt her grow colder, he held her tight as he focused, he began to glow, a warm light enveloping the two as he tried to heal her fatal wound. She reached up weakly, her barely warm hand touching his face softly.

"Kousuke... It's... Alright... It's... Not... Your fault..." She strained to speak as he focused harder, glowing brighter. Within him, the jar that was his emotions was cracking at the seams, feathers materialized from behind him as they disappeared upon the ground. "I'm... Sorry.... My love... That... We must part... So soon..." She softly spoke, her voice weak.

"No! I'm not letting you die, Rie! I'm not.... I'm..." His voice wavered, cracked as he choked back a sob. He couldn't fail. Not now. Not her. More and more the small jar cracked. Rie pulled herself closer to him, her fleetingly warm lips graced his still warm lips as she kissed him. She looked at him, a pained smile on her face.

"I love you Kousuke... Whether it's here... Or the world after... I will.... Always...... Love you...." She said as her voice finally trailed off with a sigh as he felt her body relax with the last of her life leaving her.

"R... Rie...?" He questioned, his voice quivered, thunder rumbled above as rain began to fall. "Rie? H- hey... Y... You can't..." He shook her lifeless body. "Wake up! Rie!!" He shouted at her desperately. RIE! OPEN YOUR EYES! PLEASE!!" He yelled as he looked upon her lifeless body. The rain fell harder. Pouring now. Thunder boomed as his head hung low. The fragile jar cracked more, before he laid her body down, taking off his Royal Knight Coat and placing it over her as he stood.

"Haha! Did the bitch die already?!" The demon taunted, gloating.

"Shut up..." He said quietly, his hands balling into fists.

"Shame she died so quick! I would have had better fun with her after I killed you!" He continued gloating.

Shatter. The jar exploded, shards flying everywhere as light flooded his inner space. "I said... SHUT UUUUUUP!!!!!" he yelled as holy light erupted out of him, raging violently as wings emerged from his back, tearing his shirt as a halo formed above his head. The demon stopped his laughter feeling the immense power of the young man pooling out without end, his blue eyes reflected righteous anger, sadness, and pain as tears fell. "I... I WILL kill you. In the name of the three shining gods.... For the many you killed... And for Rie... I WILL SEND YOU BACK TO THE HELL YOU CAME FROM DEMON!" He roared with righteous fury, picking up his blade as it resonated with his awakened formed, the once steel blade peeling away to reveal a blade of pure holy light as he took his stance.

"GOOD! COME ANGEL OF JUSTICE! SEE IF YOU CAN SMITE ME!" The demon taunted as he prepared his bloodied blade.

The rain was heavy as it came down, thunder rumbled with fury before a lightning bolt cracked the sky with a ground shacking boom, the two rushing one another as Kousuke's blade met the demon's and cut through it before he ducked under the demon's swing and stabbed through the demon's chest. "NOW BURN FOR THE SINS YOU'VE COMMITTED!!!" He roared as the demon was engulfed in white flames and burned away as it screamed in pain. He swung the blade, a reflex of habit as he looked at the blade then to the dreary gray skies above. There was no fanfare. There was no ever after. He dropped to his knees and cried as the tears flowed freely now, the weight of what happened sinking in as he screamed out in despair and anguish. He chocked back his tears, walking over to the fallen Rie, picking her body up, ever gently, now like broken glass. He looked upon her peaceful face and wept once more, holding her lifeless body. The clouds began to part as the sun came, its warm light beaming down upon the two. He'd feel movement in his arms. Slight but he'd noticed, as well the feeling of life gradually swelling... Coming from Rie! He looked down to the once lifeless girl, her color steadily recovering as she took her first breath of new life. She had been returned to him. He hugged her tight, sobbing once more, but not of sorrow. Of joy. "Thank you... Thank you gods... A thousand times thank you for bringing her back..." He sobbed.
