  1. I awoke with a start. Nothing. The room was empty. I was fine. My paranoia crept back into the dark corners of my mind. I had convinced myself I was okay. I stood from my bed, knowing that I would not resume my slumber tonight. I looked at the alarm clock. Midnight. Dammit! I had 5 hours of darkness and silence left. I decided to turn on my light, to prevent the arrival of fear, of panic.
  2.
  3. Crash!
  4.
  5. I looked out the window in search of the sounds source. Across the street, below on the sidewalk, a garbage can lay on it's side. Behind it, the figure of a person, presumably who had knocked over the can. I had probably startled them when the light turned on.
  6.
  7. "Stupid Teenagers!" one of my neighbors shouted into the street.
  8.
  9. The figures head snapped, looking toward my neighbor's house. Then, the figure suddenly disappeared. Whatever. I laid back on my bed. My clock read 12:01. I still had some time to kill. I put my headphones on, and began listening to music, and looking around arcade websites on my laptop. The rest of the day progressed normally. That is, until I got home. I drove home quietly. Today was good. My boss was gone, so no shit from him, and I had finished the report he was complaning about. I came aound the corner, onto my street. Four police cars were parked in front of my neighbor's house. I asked one of the officers what had happened.
  10.
  11. "Whe found him dead this morning. His head was removed, and we haven't found it yet." the officer explained.
  12.
  13. "When?!" I exclaimed.
  14.
  15. "About midnight, our ME's best guess is 12:01."
  16.
  17. I internally cringed. The officer could tell I knew something. I explained this mornings events.
  18.
  19. "And the person just dissapeared?" He questioned, confused.
  20.
  21. "Yes."
  22.
  23. "Well, thank you for the information. You can go home now. We will keep you updated."
  24.
  25. I turned away with a quick nod, and walked into my house.
  26.
  27. That night went normally. I played my xbox until about nine, and went to sleep. I went to work at 8:40 the next morning. I got home, two police officers waiting for me. I walked over to them.
  28.
  29. "We found something, on one of your neightbors security cameras." the taller officer explained.
  30.
  31. He took out his phone and showed me a video. The timecode read 12:00. I saw the figure standing next to the garbage can, my light was on across the street. Then I watched the figure turn to face my neightbor's house, next to mine. Then, as expected, the timecode changed to 12:01, and the figure disappeared.
  32.
  33. "That's exactl what I saw." I said.
  34.
  35. "But that thing didn't just poof away." The officer said, pressing a few buttons on his phone.
  36.
  37. He show me the video again. It looked weird, as if slowed down. That's probably what he did on his phone. I watched the timecode closely. When it changed to 12:01, I watched the figure, as it sprinted toward my neighbor's house, so fast, his hood fell off, only to reveal nothing. He had no head. He went through my neighbor's front door, opening the door and closing it almost to fast to see. The officer put his phone back into his pocket.
  38.
  39. "That's all we know right now. We will return when more information surfaces." He said.
  40.
  41. They two offircers got back into their car, and left. Six identical murders happened in the next month, in various different places, all over town. All of the victims died at 12:01, after yelling at the figure who was causing the disturbance.
  42.
  43. It comes at midnight. It leaves a minute later leaving a body behind.
