Holy Dev 1: Magicless Hero

[11:37] The script that was read out began to reflect Nevermore's more advanced style of casting. For even as the fight started, Nevermore was less fighting so much as they were... Reciting the story.

"There once was a boy who was bored, as he sat on the hillside overlooking the village. To amuse himself, he took a deep breath, and sang out, 'Demon, Demon! The Demon is chasing the sheep!'"

Her words ring out, even as those occultic marionettes began to surround Acero, shifting and almost seeming to take on the appearance of wolves around the space.

"The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the demons away... But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no demon. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces."

The strikes of lightning fall primarily upon the actor's great shadow, its claws outstretched as it manipulated the marionettes. Each blow seemed to be intercepted by the creature, who was fighting more directly... But the more and more that the actor it was attached to spoke, the more that area around them seemed to transform. The dead shadowlands becoming rolling hills... Sheep wandering about. The sun shining down upon the area.

They were pulling Acero into an illusion.

"Later, the boy sang out again... 'Demons! Demons! The demons are chasing the sheep!' And to his delight, the villagers once again charged up the hill, ready to assist the boy."

The marionettes were cut down, one by one, as Acero continued his magical assault. And then, suddenly, the shadow that was behind Nevermore was gone. Their book closed, and they themselves faded into the shadows, dancing out, marking strange glowing sigils in the air. Each one hung, pulsing with metaphysical energy as the battleground darkened.

And when the narration resumed... It came from below Acero. That other voice once more.

"And when he saw a real demon prowling... When he called for help? Nobody came." Comes the ominous voice of the hel spirit. Each rune pulses, briefly, intensifying the shadows... Making them properly physical for a moment. The spirit bound to the actor rises, a shadowy claw swiping, sending Acero flying, before a great maw opens up. Occult energy grows within, and then flashes out in a sudden deluge of mana that sears at the boy, sending him sprawling to the ground.

"For any child that craves attention too much without thinking of the consequences... Won't get the help they need when they really need it."

[11:48] Acero faces Nevermore by the second time around, dashes right away towards the occultist slashing right and left through the occult imps, Nevermore is an experienced fighter so the teenager's quick dashes to her back doesn't catch her out off guard.

As Nevermore keeps kiting away the youngster intensifies his aura, pushing the limits beyond, trying to be faster and more precise on his aggression.

The occultic beams froom Nevermore makes him grab his own head for a brief moment, the surrounding, the aura coming from Nevermore and her spells make the teenager double down on the aggression.

Metal songs flood the kids head as he dashes through occultic beams of all kind, despite the beating, he is smiling fondly at his adversary, he was born for this, he just enjoys fighting like nothing else in this world.

"BUAHAHAAHAHAHA YOU GOT EVEN STRONGER SEÑORITA!!"


Laughed wildly as he kept dashing at the masked one. Nevermore began to narrate a story, pretty much like the first time they fought, but this time, the story has no correlation at all with what's going on so far or her narrative skills fell from the last fight.

The wounded teen stops suddenly and points to Nevermore with his swords, tilts his head sideways confused and says.

"What the hell are you talking about bitch, you are confusing me with that shittie story that has anythin- GGAAH!!"

Suddenly his electrical blue eyes caught briefly something dark coming from below, before he could dash away, he felt a huge force impacting his chest, ripping his torso and sending him fly across the battlefield.

[11:50] There's a laugh, a clap of her hands as the boy falls, sent flying across the battlefield. Her shadow returns to her, the great creature simply a shadow once again. However, she peers out across at the boy, taking a moment.

"Didn't have anything to do with now, no... But it has everything to do with the future, you see. For if you continue chasing danger? Well... People know how eager you are for battle. One day, you will be faced with a foe you can't best. And nobody will save you... For while you're not a liar, Acero? You are a foolish and reckless one who's cries of 'look at me' will have nobody there to witness your end."

[12:04] No knowledge of the settlements traversed through - no individuals she had spoken with just yet; shied away from the depths of conversation in exchange for precious time in those dark woods yet again after months of being away.

She was going to face her fears of the darkened forest this time on her lonesome despite lacking in a prowess for protection, no weapon to utilize in the midst of danger, nor did the Kitsune have anything for trade should she find herself among anything hazardous. Quite inconveniencing for her, it would be.

Though, as time passes, the girl could feel something well off in the distance. It wasn't anything alluring, but an anxiety inducing feeling that caused tenseness - a heart dropping to the stomach sinking sensation.

The Kitsune is silent on her journey in its direction - a clashing of sorts could be heard. Unconsciously, she rushes towards it, finding herself halted by the edge nearby at the conclusion of what appeared to be a battle of two individuals.

That sinking prickle strengthens - she had not the knowledge for this clash; the voice of another sent chills down the little one's spine. The story of a demon - just who were they? What was happening?

It was this prompt within her to understand, to find out the why of the situation despite her lack of involvement, and to put a settle to it somehow and interject herself where she wasn't supposed to be.

The impact of the other's chest - this energy that was so strange, demonic in nature, causes her feet to push up in the dirt as if she was going to run forward to Acero's aid, but she doesn't move; Hina finds herself almost frozen in place, idly spectating for a moment until the voice protrudes again from the winner of their conflict.

'Nobody will save you-' It reverberates in her mind. She recalled the time she'd been chased down by lesser demons just months earlier - and it's then, despite the outcome of whatever would occur, the girl goes forward to Acero's aid then, gliding down towards the dirt to her knees.

It was a spark of energy, something she'd never felt before - a rush of emotion flushing through her system in a protective manner. The Kitsune isn't one to possess magics, yet, but she does appear to be shielding the other person for the time being.

"Shut up!" She yells towards Nevermore. A gleam of aggression is shown in her eyes. Hina shouldn't be here, but here the girl was - trying to be a hero to someone she didn't even know. "You're wrong, whoever you are!" Because she was here that she felt confident to speak it, even if she knew if a quarrel broke out against them? She wouldn't be the winner, but her brave demeanor does not falter. That fiery disposition remains.

[12:15] Acero gets up and inspects his wound, Nevermore got him good with that direct hit. The maw is quite deep, not life endangering but enough to look for medical assistance. Sighs, another scar more to the books.

Hears Nevermore speaking, the amount of presumptions is making makes the teenager wonder if he had overestimated her intellect.

"Señorita get this straight, I face people I can't best daily, I don't want or need anybody trying to save me nor watching me, I'm a simple man I just like fighting, if I die from it so be it. It's just that simple. You can call that bravery, stupidty, foolishness, deathwish I don't even give a damn. I JUST LOVE THE BRAWL!!"

Acero blinks a few times, the irony of life he just stated he doesn't need any kind of savior, since he is well aware of his violent nature and yet a kitsune dashed in front of him shielding him from Nevermore.

He bursts laughing "HAAHAHAHA ACK!!" he suddenly stops as a sting of pain crosses his torso, making his wound to bleed out a bit. "Joder como duele..." says quietly gritting his teeth.

Looks again at the Kitsune, tilts his head sideways confused and asks "Who are you?" he's really lost, never saw that kid ever.


Points to Nevermore and says "I got a question about occult magic... I've been told that my predisposition by combat might be... fuelled by occult impulses... can that be true?"


He remembers his encounters with the Demon Tree, his occultic pulses resonated in coordination to his violent impulses before they fought on both occasions.

[12:17] The performer turns their attentions towards Hina, curiosity evident in their stance. They tilt their head to the side, before there's a soft, high laugh.

"... My oh my... Out of all the places for a hero to arise..." Comes the murmured words. The kitsune has the sudden interest of the masked individual. Nevermore does like inspiring young souls, after all. And someone so eager to stand up to them and protect someone she didn't know?

Oh how it makes Nevermore's heart sing.

"And who is it that you are, little girl? I'd just about finished writing Acero's story. But a late arrival changes the script... A plot twist is always a lovely thing, after all. Ah, but where are my manners?"

They drop into a deep bow, the illusionary landscape they'd created fading away to once more reveal the shadowlands.

"I am Nevermore. I do so enjoy playing the role of villain, you see..." They respond, before the question from Acero makes them pause.

"Mmm... no. You See, it's the opposite. Your predisposition for combat, for destruction, makes you a natural fit for the occult. And if you were an occultist, it would exasperate that destructive tendency... But no. I see no occult inside of you. -Yet-."

A low, dark chuckle escapes them.

"Why... Are you hoping to learn?"

[12:29] Hina's head shifts back in a tilt towards the injured stranger. "A protector," she whispers to him, almost.. embarrassed?

Perhaps she shouldn't have involved herself, but regardless of how things were to end for either Nevermore, Acero, or herself? Hina had interpreted the situation as dangerous for Acero. She'd not stand by to let another overtake this journey he's set on; at least not while she was around, but there wasn't any way she could stop Nevermore if they pursued it, and she knew that.

Her eyes glance back towards Nevermore, however. 'Out of all places for a hero to arise..' Hina repeats the other female's words, drawing in a deep breath then.

"I'm Hina," she begins, "Hina Lam, Kitsune of Jiuweihu." The latter of her words is stated proudly, and has Nevermore grants a bow towards Hina, the Kitsune felt some obligation to exchange one back; mannerisms were important to her, to some degree, even in the face of a potential threat or enemy.

Her blue eyes find themselves inspecting their surroundings - the illusory prowess of Nevermore was fading off, leaving behind the familiar woods she'd grown somewhat accustomed to. If felt almost relieving to see again. A light sigh of relief protrudes from Hina.

"I would say well met, but-" she pauses, turning attention towards Acero in that moment, "-you hurt someone, and I wanted to make sure he was alright." Stated firmly, Hina's gaze once again turns away towards Nevermore.

Still, she was interjecting - perhaps it was time for the girl to take a leave and allow the two to converse, who seemed familiar with one another!

"I don't want to know someone's life could have ended if I could have.. at least to stop it, but - occult magic? Isn't that the power that.. demons use? It's not good magic, from what I was taught," she says. Almost curious, however, the girl stands up and slightly steps off to the side, allowing Acero the view of the occultist mage before them, though not fully - itt was obvious that Hina was quite on edge about the whole ordeal.

[12:41] Squints his eyes at Nevermore, he knows she doesn't have any motif to lie to him, yet the teenager has difficulty to believe he is fit for that kind of magic, sighs and lowers his head, does a vague gesture with his hand.

"I was illiterate until recently, it would difficult to learn, also, as far as I know, occult magic gets it's power from negative emotions, every occultist I know so far is a moody cunt, i'm too joyful for that Jefa."

He doesn't have proper knowdledge on the matter, it's just what he heard from people around him, yet the naive teenager pretty much believes what everybody says.

Acero pouts "Not gonna deny Occult magic is so METAL tho..." the metalhead can't help himself but be amazed everytime he is in pressence of occult magic, despite his predjuices about the personality of people carrying that kind of power.


Listens to Hina whisper to him "A protector?" repeats confused, the kitsune made the teenager laugh once again "Augh... I shouldn't laugh with this wound..."

He supports himself on Hina's shoulder and points to Nevermore "That bitch might look scary, but she's a reasonable one, also it was me who asked her to fight, with dangerous consequences that could end with me being captured. I wanted to test my growth from the first fight two years ago. So It's kinda a favor she's doing me, a hurtful one but a favor" bursts laughing again, making his wounds to bleed... again!!

Smiles to the kitsune trying to make her relax "So protectora mía, don't worry about it, I'm really thankful for you standing up, you are a brave one."


Makes sign language to Nevermore trying to say 'stop with that mouth of yours', she has a tendency to look villainy as hell on that role and Acero doesn't want the Kitsune to stress more over what happened.

[12:44] "Occult magic is one of the powers that is inherent in reality. It is the power of destruction... Though, yes. Demons took it, twisted it. The forces of Hel are quite good at that, don't you know? Just west of here, in Aphros, you'll find many who use it towards 'good' ends. Even their leader, the Oracle, would tell you that occultism isn't inherently evil."

A single finger is raised, even as that mass of occult energy continues to swirl around her.

"But... It amplifies what's already there. Given to someone like me? A penchant for violence and mischief is sure to arise. Someone like Acero, though? Bloodshed is sure to follow... Unless he masters it before it masters him."

She waves it off, though, and looks back to Acero. "Metal? What in the world are you talking about? It has nothing to do with metal magic." She says, frowning behind her mask. She shrugs, though, and settles back.

"Regardless~! You've had your fight, Acero. I'm in no rush to push towards the end of your story just yet. But do be careful... The more times you push, the higher the stakes will inevitably be. Only attack me again if you're VERY ready."

[12:59] The boom of Acero's voice prompts Hina to jump up suddenly, a tinge of an unnerved expression laces her features, though softens when he rises. She doesn't deny the support he needs to keep in balance, offering a hand around his back for extra aid to keep himself standing.

"I promise, occult magic isn't all that," she adds in to his statement regarding the magic. A concerned look is given to him the more he speaks, but Hina listens nonetheless to either of them converse.

"Just because something looks or sounds full of flavor doesn't mean it will be good for you." The attempt to dissuade his mind from pursuing the magic likely wouldn't work - the seemed well intrigued by the thought, though she still puts in her two-cents.

"Please be careful next time though, Acero, will you?" She inquiries, though her tone fulfilled more of a demand than a question. "Getting yourself hurt unnecessarily leads to, well-" Her eyes shift downward to his injury and her lips purse, "-that." His injury produces more blood upon laughter. With her free hand, if Acero should allow it, Hina aims to cover the injury and apply some pressure to halt the bleeding.

The Kitsune's ears perk up towards Nevermore's direction, hearing out her explanation on the prowess that demons possessed, how the forces of Hel were bent on twisting the power. Slowly, the girl's head turns in the occultist's direction, listening.

"Maybe that's true, but too many people tend to just.. become emotional with that magic. Become something.. different, like-" She pauses, turning away. "-like demons," she adds. It was very much apparent that she was against the use of the abilities that occult had to offer.

She knew that, with Acero's words and Nevermore's, it may be true for what Acero could become should he find himself interlacing the powers in his mana circuits. "Ah, well-" Another pause as she peaks towards Acero, who is offering her a smile. One is offered back. "Thanks, though. You should be more careful next time, yeah?" A light chuckle is given, and Hina returns her attention towards Nevermore. No words are spoken yet to her; she is somewhat speechless at this time despite questions formulating in her head. She just wanted to ensure Acero had someone to lean on at this time - otherwise, a nod was given towards Nevermore, and nothing more.

[13:21] Acero says, "Just quit being so dramatic before I bite your head"
[13:21] Nevermore exclaims, "Never~!"
[13:21] Acero says, "I ain't getting three acts"
[13:22] Acero asks, "Hina, can you do me another favor?"
[13:22] Hina Lam asks, "Maybe to you it isn't unnecessary, but just be more careful with who you fight. Some fights just don't end well, but - yes. What do you need, Acero?"
[13:23] Acero says, "Get me some paper, gotta write to my doc"
[13:23] Acero says, "Do you know how to write properly? i'd need you to correct my grammar"
[13:24] Having witnessed the conversation from the sidelines, Benjamin finally speaks up.

"Glad to see it didn't end in any... Further, complications." He utters out, glancing over at Acero's injury.

"You should get that injury checked. As to learning occult magic? While I'll personally suggest against it, if you truly seek to learn it? It may be best to ask around in Aphros, rather than the likes of Skarnfel or Sheol.

That way, you at least won't have to deal with witches or demons."

[13:24] Acero says, "Oh caballero, what's your name? Thank you for following us just in case"
[13:25] Acero says, "Will ask around aphros just in case"
[13:28] Benjamin Thomson says, "Caballero... Me? I'm Benjamin Thomson. I stayed to watch in case I'll need to step in, is all."
[13:28] Paper was the request by Acero, but Hina frowns. "I'm afraid I don't have any on me right now," she says with a saddened expression forming. The girl's bag was full to the brim, though she hadn't any pieces of paper or utensils to write on. Those had been left elsewhere for another time, unfortunately.

Her attention is removed from Acero, if only for a moment, as another stranger approaches that she never noticed before.

"Sheol or Skarnfel?" The Kitsune's head tilts slightly, curious. "Are either of those places where Nevermore is from? I don't know anything about them," she adds in.

The sheltered life and having been left out of Meranthe's state of affairs left the girl vulnerable by lack of knowledge, so learning and questioning was her way of gaining that knowledge that would be necessary to have.

"Could you tell me more about those places? And, uh.. maybe help meget Acero to.. Aphros? That place- yes." A light, awkward smile climbs upon her lips. Had that been the settlement she found herself in often during down time? More than likely.

[13:29] Hina Lam says, "Thank you for staying in case we needed some help, Benjamin."
[13:30] Ligi says, "You are truly, one kind soul Benjamin."
[13:30] Ligi says, "To stick around for people you don't know. Not alot of people would do such a thing."
[13:34] Head nods to the only adult present.

"Nice to meet you Benjamin. Caballero means sir in some strange language, thought literal translation would be knight."

Looks at Hina, she doesn't have paper "Don't worry about it, right now what I need is to write to my doctor and get patched up."

Adresses Benjamin once more "Can you give me some piece of paper? I need to write a letter to Sven from Final frontier so he can get me patched up, also would need some grammar spellcheck if possible."
Thinks about the prospect of Sven knowing that Acero fought Nevermore again and his head hurts...
(Acero)
[13:34] Benjamin raises a hand to point towards the east. "If you further east, you'll reach Skarnfel. A place rife with demons and witches. Venture too close, and they may try to kidnap you for their own ends."

He says, giving them a quick warning about the place.

"The second, Sheol? Is on the whole other side of the continent westwards. If you see a line of sand extended south-west, once you move past it you'll be at Sheol.
I don't know who exactly lives there... But, if my understanding is correct? There are witches there, too."

[13:35] Benjamin Thomson pulls out the book he carries behind his back to tear off an empty page.

[13:35] Benjamin Thomson says, "Here you go."
[13:35] Acero says, "Yeah sheol has witches and warlocks too"
[13:35] Acero says, "They lack on the demon department though"
[13:39] Sits and begins to write.

[13:43] A sense of relief befall on Hina, drowning out every possible sense of urgency and worry she felt previously; the only situation now to attend had been the wound Acero retained from battle. A dip of her head is had in acknowledgement to Acero's words about her lack of paper and utensil for writing, and she mouths 'Sorry' to him for it.

Her hand still remains where the injury was, applying pressure, at least where there had been blood trickling out. For now, the girl is silent, listening to the explanations from Benjamin in regard to Sheol and Skarnfel.

Attentive as she was, her visible expressions displayed that of shock.

'Venture too close, and they may try to kidnap you for their own ends.' Definitely advice she would keep noted as to avoid trouble from Skarnfel.

"I see," she says softly. "I'll do my best to avoid those areas then and stay in Aphros, which I assume is.. neutral? I lived far in the mountain - kind of a sheltered life, so I, um.." Hina trails off a bit, seemingly disappointed that she didn't really know much about anywhere!

"Don't know much about these places. Sorry for so many questions."

[13:45] "Aphros is abou to get to war with Skarnfel, actually." The man points out. "Skarnfel seeks to expand by taking one of their islands, which will enforce a confrontation over the land."

[13:54] As Acero keeps writing his letter as he hears the conversation. He can't help himself but reply to Hina's fears about delving into sheol.

"I was told the same, yet I went to both places looking for sparrings and was treated really well by demons, warlocks and witches alike, sometimes I think it's some irrational fear people try to instill in youngsters so they don't end up joining their factions rather than a danger itself."

Shook his head and shrugs.

"Don't get me wrong, those places are indeed more dangerous than let's say, dal'thala, but people exaggerate, I get I'm quite naive and reckless but I can't speak badly of them."

Points eastwards towards skarnfel, the pit of demons. "A few days ago I was in skarnfel ransoming with the Demon King itself, I thought it would be a mindless creature that only shoots occult beams from its mouth, but to be fair it was quite reasonable."


Finishes the letter and hands it to the Kitsune so she can correct his grammar, removes her hand gently from the wound so she can focus on the letter and puts his applying pressure for the time being.


Frowns at Benjamin's words.

"Is skarnfel launching an invasion on black rose island? The Demon King told me the island would be a good exchange for Faucher and yesterday fount IT again in the baron's mansion in the island..."

For once, the teenager's face looks worried, baron Sinclair is his dear friend and teacher.

[14:04] Treated well by demons, warlocks, and witches alike? "They might have seen you as neutral then and not as a threat," Hina says, frowning.

"I don't know anything about any on-going wars, but, well-" The girl's smile returns then, a bit of an egotistical statement is spoken then, "Sadly, I am not powerful enough to save everyone and stop it if I could help it." Her heart sank at the statement to say the least, allowing a change of disposition to show off the concern she had about the upcoming war because of the ambitions of Skarnfel.

It's shown more apparent, too, when her gaze falls back on Acero mid explanation about the Demon King. "I don't know anything about the Demon King, or Dal'thala, so my opinion is just an opinion, but anyone with the name given as a Demon King sounds like major trouble to me," a shrug is given to end the statement.

The Kitsune's hand on the wound is removed,though covered in blood, so it's likely some may end up adding to the blood already on the page. Whoops.

Her eyes scan the written words. Probably not her business. She didn't know why Acero was even handing it to her as he hadn't say anything about it!

After she's done, Hina awkwardly gestures the page back to him, "You should get yourself a teacher for writing," she states softly, empathetically. "I can tell what you're saying, but there is a lot of words spelled wrong," a light chuckle is given then, and she speaks no more, allowing the two to go on with their conversation and idly listen for the time being.
