- Back in 2017 when my friend first helped me install Ableton, I had an idea: what if I made a hip-hop instrumental beat using only sound effects from Super Smash Bros. Melee? I put this into action and produced a beat, showed my friends, etc etc. Looking back on it, it wasn't really that good. Nothing special. At the time, though, I was sorely seeking attention for it, so I sent a snippet of it to Alex19, Zhu, and Leffen via Snapchat. Leffen and Zhu didn't respond, but Alex19 voiced a little bit of approval. And I guess that was all I needed. I left it at that and didn't share it anywhere else.
- Now it's 2019. I was messing around in Ableton after having not produced anything for a long while when I thought to revisit the idea of incorporating Melee SFX into a beat. I worked for an evening and a morning and this is what I ended up with.
- I titled it Dropzone because dropzone is a Melee term and it sounds cool. The image in the video is a semi-ironic attempt at album cover art, created with something like XXXTENTACION's 17 in mind. It's supposed to look hasty, sloppy, and the slightest bit unsettling. I made it by drawing the Raid R logo in sharpie on some of my math scratch paper, doodling some random stuff in pencil between the vectors and eigenvalue characteristic equations, then editing it in GIMP to make it look artistic and stupid.
- Ok. Enough writing. Nobody reads this stuff anyway. It's 1 AM. I should go to sleep.
