Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences.
In a valiant but pointless attempt to cheer up their freshly-dumped friend and former Dungeons and Dragons legend, Joe, two enthusiastic Live Action Role Players--Eric, a 27-level Grand Sorcerer in the making, and Hung, a medieval Master Rogue--drag their sad companion to a large-scale LARP campaign in the middle of a forest. However, things will soon spin out of control, as a malevolently cryptic dark incantation from the pages of a seemingly innocent prop book of spells, inadvertently summons a demonic succubus bent on destruction. Now, try to stop a slaughterous extra-dimensional being with several foam sticks and a handful of plastic swords.
Knights of Badassdom is a disappointing schlock B grade horror/comedy film about a bunch of role players and dungeon &amp; dragon freaks that somehow unleash a succubus from an ancient book of spells purchased online.<br/><br/>There are moments of comedy but the director is too busy slaughtering its cast rather nastily and wastes its good cast (literally as some of them die early on) like Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi and Steve Zahn.<br/><br/>Maybe the film wanted to be a homage to The Evil Dead movies but it seems their was post production interference which resulted in this incoherent mess.<br/><br/>At least Dinklage gets to do some cool badass slaughtering eventually.
Plot summary: After some attempts to live-action role-play a magic spell goes wrong, all humour drains from the world and a group of actors are left scrambling with dreadful material and ultimately fail to deliver anything remotely resembling a movie. <br/><br/>And I swear I have a sense of humour. I love Zoolander and Anchorman and Stepbrothers and, I don&#39;t know, Shrek? I just can&#39;t... Nearly everything doesn&#39;t work. There&#39;s like two funny bits. There&#39;s a small physical gag involving a swishy cape. This is probably one of the worst movies I&#39;ve ever seen. <br/><br/>For what you might have been expecting, try Darkon, a terrific documentary on live action role players. Or even Role Models was fun, with many many more jokes and well-written characters. <br/><br/>But this? This is the pits. <br/><br/>0.5/5
Those who’ve had Knights of Badassdom on their radar all this time are likely to get some mild amusement and satisfaction out of seeing the LARPing community depicted as something other than viral video fodder. Everyone else will find it a frustrating exercise of missed opportunities, as rough around the edges as the fake Frank Frazetta painting on your cousin’s van.
