- Generally from what I've seen, documentation for the version differences of Rockman 3 and Mega Man 3 has been rather small, in that each version doesn't do much different so most people say to just run either version. However, I decided it would probably be a good idea to document all of the version differences between each game anyway, as some do have major impacts on how the game is ran.

- Last Room of Wily 1 (pictured above) - Going to get this one out of the way first, as it is by far the most minor version difference in the game. The reason for this change was to prevent a common softlock from happening when teleporting from dying on the boss as pictured below.

- - Not a huge difference, but the start up for the US version is slower, meaning each reset would take longer than on the Japanese version. The text in the background for stage select is also changed to say either "Rockman 3" or "Mega Man 3". Also, the Japanese title looks way cooler.
- - In the Japanese version, Doc Flash shoots one lemon instead of a large spread of lemons, and the duration of his Time Stopper is also extremely brief. You can see him being capable of shooting more than one lemon at a time in case you happen to die against him, in the short time frame before a restart or game over. The US version fixes this glitch, however, making the fight last a bit longer and also makes it more likely to take more damage during it.
- Invincibility Frames when Paused - Working on a video explanation for this, will post eventually.
- Cutscene with Dr. Light before Wily Stages - After fighting Break Man, the cutscene that follows talking to Dr. Light is 12 frames longer in the Japanese version.
- Doc Bubble Boss Corridor - In the corridor room leading to the fight with Doc Robot Bubble, there are no actual water physics (being able to jump higher) in the US version despite the background being underwater and both rooms in between this one having water physics. The Japanese version does not have this issue.
- Pause Menu Animation Length - In the Japanese version, the length of Mega Man's animation after coming out of a menu is increased if he standing still on the ground is in his firing pose before going into the pause menu.
- Shoutouts to BaronHaynes, fastatcc, coolkid, and Chelney for contributing to this!
- If you know any other differences between the two games, be sure to leave a reply and I will add them on to this original post.

- The cutscene with Dr. Light after the fight with Break Man is very slightly longer in the JP version (I want to say 18 frames, but I may be remembering this wrong).

- Looks like most of the differences are covered. Another difference, and this one is really silly, is that Doc Bubble's boss corridor room in Mega Man 3 does not have water physics, whereas the Rock Man 3 corridor does(and should). Doesn't have any effect on the speedrun but an interesting piece of trivia.
- Also, the cutscene is 12 frames longer in the Japanese version, which is nowhere near enough to offset the difference in the harder flash fight and the slower Gamma quick kill.

- The length of Mega Man's animation after coming out of a menu is increased in Rockman 3 if he standing still on the ground and he is in his firing pose before going into the weapon's menu :geek:

- We found out why the Wily 1 screen is different in the US release:

- If you die against the Kamegoro Maker, you can pretty easily softlock the game by getting teleported into the wall and being unable to get out. Credit to Chelney for realizing this.

- Good to know that mystery has finally been solved. I'll be updating the OP for this thread later today or tomorrow to add in these finds. Appreciate all the help!

- Thought I'd throw this in since no one else has yet, the screw enemies (in top, spark, etc) spawn in from farther away on the Japanese version than on the English version. To note, this means that the English version cannot get the screw despawn at the start of top man's stage. There may be other rooms that reduce or increase lag based on this, but I haven't done any testing (thinking about doc spark in particular being a possibility).
