Any Magento, your best bet would be a VPS as they can be very bulky, and you can always scale bigger and eventually to a Dedicated Server.
Magento is a freemium e-commerce platform that comes with many useful features. Seeing how many features it have, the application is rather heavy. Starting with a VPS is the best option here. A VPS also comes with better security and flexibility. I'd recommend going for a VPS packaged with a 1-click installer, like Softaculous, which makes it easier to install Magento and other plugins that you may need in the near future. Also it's better to opt for a Managed VPS. Many hosts offer that. You pay a small amount of fee, and they'll take care of any technicalities. That leaves you more time and freedom to manage your e-commerce business.
imagine writing all that copy-paste nonsense because you want to spam your signature but then you post it to find out a mod has cut out your sig because you can't read rules.

If you see that you need more power or resources depending of the traffic that you have, then you can move to a VPS and move to a dedicated server when it's necessary. This only depends on your budget. Because usually during the first months you may not be able to have a huge traffic. I can also suggest to take a cloud hosting or vps. Because it has almost no downtime.
I would definitely aim towards a VPS to start. Moving to Dedicated when required.

budget is not a problem, we'll organize big events and search for lots of designers, so we think the traffic will be very high especially at the start.
The problem I see here is with the "big events".

I don't recommend a VPS in this case. Because if you get a lot of traffic, this would definitely slow other VPSs on the same host and the admins would shutdown your VPS in response to complaints from other customers.

If you have the Admins behind and the budget, go Amazon AWS as you can scale on demand literally.

Otherwise, a dedicated server on monthly contract so you can scale down later when the traffic stabilizes.
