  1. >you are standing in the kitchen, with a moth-eaten robe pulled across your bruised chest
  2. >you grip a cup of tea tight and close while two police ponies finish taking your statement
  3. >you can hear Pinkie Pie's drunken, aggravated shouts in another room as Twilight attempts to calm her
  4. >you close your eyes and block it all out
  5. >ignore the pain in your chest, the ridiculous feeling of nakedness, the stinging in your nose and eyes from crying
  6. >just say the most important words you can
  7. "I want to press charges."
  8. >the two police ponies glance back and forth, and then they begin volleying words
  9. >"Of course-"
  10. >"We'll get on that right after we-
  11. >"We just need to confirm a few parts-"
  12. >"Just a few parts of your statement."
  13. "I already told you that she hit me."
  14. >tears well in your eyes as you confess again
  15. >"Of course-"
  16. >"And we believe you completely-"
  17. >"Just want to be completely sure-"
  18. >"Sure that she did it deliberately?"
  19. >"Wouldn't accuse you of deliberately filing a false report-"
  20. >"Not saying your report is false, but sometimes you are-"
  21. >"You humans-"
  22. >"And stallions too-"
  23. >"Can get a little emotional."
  24. >"Maybe you didn't see exactly what you saw-"
  25. >"Or you saw something you didn't exactly see."
  26. "She bucked me in the chest."
  27. >"Of course-"
  28. >"If that's how you feel-"
  29. "It's what happened!"
  30. >you jump to your feet, but neither police pony moves
  31. >"Of course-"
  32. >"There is one matter, though-"
  33. >"A small matter-"
  34. >"We'll have to remove you from here-"
  35. >"For your own safety-"
  36. >"For your own good-"
  37. >"Normally we'd send someone in your position to the Mare's shelter-"
  38. >"But they're not likely to accept you-"
  39. >"Nothing prejudiced, of course-"
  40. >"Of course-"
  41. >"We can open up a cell for you at the county jail-"
  42. >"It's nearly empty down there anyway-"
  43. >"Just a few other inmates-"
  44. >"They're good guys-"
  45. >"The best guys, our inmates-"
  46. >"Or we could talk to Fluttershy-"
  47. >"Fluttershy might have a cage-"
  48. >"A pet bed-"
  49. >"A pen-"
  50. >"Open for you."
  51. >you can't believe what they're saying
  52. "This is my home."
  53. >"Of course-"
  54. >"You have cohabited here for some time-"
  55. >"Might be able to make a case for it-"
  56. >"A strong case, if she's found guilty-"
  57. >"If she's guilty-"
  58. >"If she's imprisoned-"
  59. >"But for the moment-"
  60. >"No charges pending-"
  61. >"Our priority has to be your safety."
  62. "How is prison safe, or ... Fluttershy is one of her friends."
  63. >"Of course-"
  64. >"You'd have to go pretty far in this town-"
  65. >"In the world-"
  66. >"To find someone who wasn't Pinkie Pie's friend-"
  67. >"Or at least acquaintance."
  68. >the two ponies smile at each other as they speak their last lines
  69. >and you realize that it doesn't matter
  70. >whether you withdraw it now or withdraw it later, that statement is never going to enter evidence
  71. >the ponies see your shoulders sag
  72. >one of them throws a hoof around your neck
  73. >"Of course-"
  74. >"If you need some time-"
  75. >"Time to think-"
  76. >"Contemplate your statement-"
  77. >"We could sit on it-"
  78. >"Put it on ice-"
  79. >"Maybe take a couple days-"
  80. >"Sort things out-"
  81. >"Get them right in your head."
  82. "I think ... Maybe ..."
  83. >you just want to curl up in bed and never move again
  84. >your chest hurts, you're tired, and these strange ponies won't stop talking
  85. >"Of course-"
  86. >"We won't destroy it-"
  87. >"We'll keep it on file-"
  88. >"On hoof-"
  89. >"Ready to be signed-"
  90. >"To be entered into court-"
  91. >"At a moment's notice."
  92. "Thank you."
  93. >you collapse, defeated into a chair that is too small for you
  94. >the police ponies go to the living room
  95. >Pinkie Pie has calmed down and his laughing with her good friends
  96. >everyone in this town is her friend
  97. >and that just leaves you out here, barefoot on the linoleum
  98. >the lights flash red and blue outside, blinking through the window
  99. >you wait
  100. >as soon as the police leave, Pinkie will shut the door
  101. >and she'll tell you to get on your knees
  102. >and she'll tell you that it is very mean to tell tales about other ponies
  103. >and she'll say that one mean prank gets another one in return
  104. >and there's nowhere to go
  105. >and it never stops
