  1. Meanwhile, sitting at an empty table beside a window overlooking the Black Lake was Connor Brenton. He was poring over a book over renowned wizards and witches from the Slytherin house. He wasn't the least perturbed at the astonishingly high Dark Wizard to Regular Wizard ratio of the graduates, it was pure coincidence, really. Coincidences like this, however, intrigued him. His House had an aura of mystery, of dangerous secrets that were just waiting to be uncovered. He had seven years to soak in as much knowledge as he could, seven years in this ancient castle of wonder and mystique. He shivered with excitement at the thought, even!

  3. Of course, it wasn't all library study. He'd thought that growing up with magical relatives who gladly parted advice with him would make the various classes easier. He was wrong. His first week of classes was particularly brutal. He was rubbish at disarming spells required for Defense Agains the Dark Arts, hardly caused his stupid feather to hover an inch in Charms, and had nearly been strangled by the Venomous Tentacula in Herbology. The only classes he managed to be marginally good at were Transfiguration (apparently he was a natural and changing the color of Scurry's fur), and Muggle Studies (he had plenty of time to learn about how his parents lived). The homework he was constantly assigned left him with little free time that could be spent wandering the castle or reading in the library. Today, however, was one of his rare days.

  5. Connor's book satchel began to rustle, something he hardly noticed while he was engrossed in an article about the infamous witch Bellatrix Lestrange. A small furred head poked out and sniffed the air. Scurry, Connor's pet ferret, was finally tired of sleeping in that comfy bag. Crawling out and onto the table, she wandered over to the edge of the wooden table and leaped to the floor. One small leap for a ferret, one giant leap for ferret kind. Peering out of the large book stands, she noticed a girl who seemed just as short as her own pet human conversing with another girl who towered over her. Curious to that sort of logic (how could two people be equally short?), she scampered over to the girl's feet and gave her meticulously shined shoes a sniff.
