After the funeral his friends went to his apartment to clear out his things and came across a cardboard box overflowing with composition notebooks filled with journal entries and poems and short stories and other writings. Alienation and heartbreak and permanent inner darkness were the prevailing themes. Endless suffering suffused it all. To those who paged through those notebooks that afternoon, his suicide no longer seemed like such a mystery.
