  1. Production Engineer - Menlo Park, CA
  2. Production Engineers at Facebook are hybrid software/systems engineers who
  3. ensure that Facebook's services run smoothly and have the capacity for
  4. future growth. They are embedded in every one of Facebook's product and
  5. infrastructure teams, and are core participants in every significant
  6. engineering effort underway in the company. Our team is comprised of
  7. varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new grads to industry
  8. veterans. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less
  9. so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We sail into uncharted
  10. waters every day at Facebook in Production Engineering, and we are always
  11. learning. This position is full-time and located in our Menlo Park office.
  12. Responsibilities
  13.  
  14. * Own back-end services like our Hadoop data warehouses, front-end
  15. services like Chat and Newsfeed, infrastructure components like our
  16. Memcache infrastructure, and everything in between
  17. * Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and
  18. debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most
  19. complex systems in the world
  20. * Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call
  21. rotation, backed by our 24x7 Site Reliability Operations team
  22. * Partnered alongside the best engineers in the industry on the coolest
  23. stuff around, the code and systems you work on will be in production
  24. and used by millions of users all around the world
  25.  
  26. Requirements
  27.  
  28. * BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical
  29. discipline or equivalent experience
  30. * Extremely sound knowledge of UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals
  31. * Ability to code really well in at least one language (even if it is
  32. not one that Facebook uses)
  33. * Ability to rapidly learn new development languages (PHP, Python, C++,
  34. and Java are all in heavy use)
  35. * Ability to pick up new software, frameworks and APIs quickly
  36. * Sharp and tenacious troubleshooting skills: you can fix anything
  37. * Ability to perform 'guerrilla capacity planning' for internet service
  38. architectures
  39. * Good knowledge of basic large-scale internet service architectures
  40. (such as load balancing, LAMP, CDN's), even if you haven't worked on
  41. one
  42. * Configuration and maintenance of common applications such as Apache,
  43. memcached, Squid, MySQL, NFS, DHCP, NTP, SSH, DNS, and SNMP
  44. * A healthy respect for our motto 'Move Fast and Break Things,' but
  45. always make sure you know how to fix them too
  46. * Good verbal and written communications skills
  47. * Detail oriented and careful
