Merric Hamwise was born in the green arching hills of the Still Lands to a family of artisans and butchers. Their craft was that of smoking various meats, particularly fine ham. Life moved at a slow pace and even quieter hum until rumblings from the southern hills became too loud to be ignored.

A powerful goblin and his band of supply hungry kobolds began to wage war on his peaceful community. Attacking in the night while the community was full from food and drink and fast asleep, seeking out supplies to take back underground. In order to circumvent future attacks Merric and his father taught their neighbors how to cut a whole new type of meat! -Eventually pushing the invading forces back underground but not before they had pillaged and destroyed most of the community and slaughtered many of his friends and family.

With his families home and community destroyed he began roaming the countryside trading with local communities and making his living on the road. No matter how far he travels to escape the haunting memories the pain remains so near.
