BACKGROUND: Minseul was born in Seoul, south korea. Her family consisted of her mother, father and brother, Na Jaemin, who was 2 years younger than her. At the age of 12, Minseul's family moved to New Zealand because of her Father's work. While she was there, she used the name Evangeline. Her mother eventually became a photographer for famous models. Her parents have always been the straightforward type, so they would constantly tell Minseul that she's fat and needs to start dieting. They would compare her to the kpop idols that appeared on TV and would compare her to the child models her mother has worked for before. She would look at herself in the mirror and cry because she felt worthless. Her brother, being clueless about how Minseul felt, would joke that she was fat and ugly whenever Minseul asked how she looked. When he found out about Minseul's insecurities, he was very guilty and told her that he was only joking. From then on, he always defended his sister whenever someone would insult her.

Minseul always looked up to Kpop idols and would dream to be like them. But she never had the courage to audition despite the auditions being close to her house. Her brother constantly encouraged her while her parents continued with their insults. She eventually told herself not to listen to the insults and went for a SM audition. Unfortunately, she didn't get accepted and was discouraged greatly because she had hope of getting accepted. It took her months to get over it and with her supportive and encouraging brother around, Minseul mustered the courage to audition for Blockberry Creative and got accepted this time round.
