- [18:06] A wandering artificer's work was never done. Especially not in the ever-constant search for mastery of her craft and riches. Especially riches.
- "Hey there, sir. 'Scuse me," she calls out to...
- Is that a fish guy? Hey. Who is she to judge?
- "Kay. Aritificer extraordinaire, passing through. Any work you need done?"
- (Katrin)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:06] Maertock Reave says, "Pfffffft."
- [18:13] Maertock would appear to be whistling a low, ominous tune as he leaned back against the ship mast, the former Captain of the Deep Company glancing over the artificer in question with a soft tap of his chin. It was a dangerous game after all.
- "Usually I'd say no, but since you are an artificer, how would you like to sharpen a legendary blade?"
- The Captain appeared to be amused by the thought.
- "Don't try to steal it naturally. Beyond the fact I could easily kill you, the blade itself has a mind of its own. It refuses to be borne by any but its chosen."
- (Maertock Reave)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:15] The closer she gets the more she feels some kind of bad mojo lingering in the area. Quite possibly with the titanic fishman as its source. She's given pause, even hesitates, then steps forward anyhow.
- "Haha, hey, heeeey…" she says with nervous laughter, hands up and palms out. "I'm a woman of my craft and not a thief. Honest.
- 'Sides, swords ain't my thing to swing around, personally. But getting a chance to take a look at a legendary blade? Sure. Wouldn't turn that down."
- He's got her interest.
- (Katrin)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:25] Maertock would whistle softly as he rose from his seat, the Captain of the Deep Company halting before the woman as he hummed softly to himself. Glancing around, his dim eyes would fall upon the nearby coast before a six foot long cutlass practically taller than the woman before him was withdrawn from the former Captain's side.
- "This...is Dread Saltspite. The once-blade of Captain Saltspite, the skeleton king of the seas. After I murdered him and stole his hat, I went to work turning it into a true conduit of the will of the deep. Arcanium, abyssal sebathium, a living tentacle....you get the idea."
- The blade was planted into the sand, though it certainly seemed to appear as if it was wobbling of its own volition.
- The tentacle that lined the blade was very much twitching, it was not a prank.
- "Needs to be sharpened. And I could use a reenchantment with an etheric rune if you can manage."
- (Maertock Reave)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:32] He looked big sitting down, but standing he's even bigger than she is. Which is not unheard of, but tends to be a less than common thing. She tilts her head back and blinks.
- The blade though gets her real attention. Katrin whistles too. The sword is as intimidating as its owner, maybe moreso. Not only does it cut an impressive figure, it is resplendent with its inlaid gemstones
- "Wait...it's got something living in it?"
- Katrin is not very dragon-like in many ways. She does not tend to be particularly brave when push comes to shove, but there are things she covets; gold, fame, and secrets. Particularly secrets of craftsmanship. Sure enough, the handguard looks to be moving. Not a mere trick of the light. The artificer tries to touch it, though not to take.
- "Well, as I live and breathe. How 'bout that..." she breathes. Then she ungraciously inhales and snorts. A ghastly, uncouth noise as she horks, hocks, and spits into her hand. In the center of her palm is a glowing glob of not phlegm (at least not as such), but magma. The Drakan waves it through the air and it cools into porous stone.
- Unless the captain takes offense to this gesture, she uses the formed stone to sharpen the edge of the very blade.
- "Gimme a minute to catch my breath from all my rambling, sir, and I can get down some food for a rune. That will cost ya though."
- (Katrin)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:39] Maertock would whistle a soft tune as he delved into the depths of his inky manifested being with a low chuckle. Bit by bit, a small ensemble of wanton trinkets was assembled in preparation of payment for a job well done. The blade of Dread Saltspite required proper attention after all.
- "Not just living in it. The blade is alive, period. Wasn't always that way, but when I reforged it into my Captain's cutlass, the various fragments of consciousness and primordial energy coalesced in a blade very much alive."
- The Captain would nod with a dark chuckle at that. The woman's reaction appeared to amuse him at least to some degree, more than likely because he always enjoyed watching a good smith at work.
- "You see much you wouldn't expect at the bottom of the ocean. Some things best left unseen."
- Another dark whistle at that.
- "Catch your breathe, as any questions that satisfy your curiosity, this is rather convenient for me after all."
- And so trinkets were deposited around the young smith as the giant of a shark man nodded firmly
- (Maertock Reave)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [18:40] Maertock Reave says, "This should cumulatively add up to a bit over five hundred coin."
- [18:42] Katrin says, "--"
- [18:48] It's a good bit more than the pity ten coins she usually asks for in return for a simple repair job. And then some. The smith starts gathering up some of the goods and shoving them away into her coat pockets. There's a little twinkle in her eye as she snatches it all up. She is still a Drakan.
- Once the sharpening is done she hucks away the stone somewhere into the sea, the pumice spent on a single task. Next she takes a rusty spike from her tool belt, a focus for her runework, and begins carefully drawing on the blade. Even more careful now that she knows it's an actual living thing. Unorthodox to be sure, yet Katrin is a craftsman worth her salt.
- "So you're telling me you made it alive? How'd you do it?" she asks, craving the answer. What a feather in her cap that knowledge might be.

- [18:53] Maertock would whistle a soft tune as the tower of shark muscle clicked his teeth together softly in amusement. The former Captain of the Deep Company appeared, at the least, to enjoy the show as he watched Katrin work. He always did find drakans good company.
- Maintaining his comfortable leaning position against the table, several black tentacles of inky darkness would extend forth from his form to properly set the nearby table, glossy lenses adorning their lengths with their own foul perception.
- As the woman began to rune work, the shadow shark would bob his head with a hum and a whistle once more.
- "Fusing an infinitely regenerating, eldritch tentacle into the very metal itself, of course. Scalding it into a new form as living metal was embraced down to the very last fiber with its form. If you want a living weapon, get living parts kiddo."
- The shark would bob his head.
- "Soul steel is never a bad start."

- [18:57] The tentacles, and the captains very presence, might have been more unnerving if she hadn't been entirely absorbed in her work and elated at the very prospect of examining such a weapon. She needs to take no mental notes, as what the captain make sense.
- Life for a living weapon.
- "Soul steel...I think I've heard about that somewhere," she remarks offhandedly.
- The young smith did often find herself more favorably in odd company. She didn't mesh so well with the people of the cities and the well-to-do. All the better, this was where real innovation was. Safety didn't breed progress or discovery.
- "I don't know where I can find tentacles lying around, but that's one hell of an idea. Thank you, sir."
