  59. Bajirao 1, who fought over 41 major battles and many others, was reputed never to have lost a single one of them. Bajirao is described as "RANMARD" a man made of and for the battlefield. Bajirao said to his brother "Remember that night has nothing to do with sleep. It was created by God, to raid territory held by your enemy. The night is your shield, your screen against the cannons and swords of vastly superior enemy forces. " A born cavalry leader Bajirao was unequaled for the daring and originality of his genius. Mastani, the fabled warrior princess was the daughter of Raja Chattrasal and his Persian wife Roohani Begum. An expert dancer, singer and warrior, Mastani is sent to battle at the head of the Bundelkhand army. A chance meeting on a war field where they fight on the same side, puts Bajirao and Mastani on a course of passionate love- that is unstoppable by either of their families, by war or by death itself.
  60. This was one of the most engrossing movies that I watched this year.<br/><br/>The historical aspect of the story is inspiring! It shows the courage, intelligence &amp; determination of Peshwa Bajirao &amp; the Marathas to fight the formidable Mughals &amp; defeat them! I could not help but feel proud of them and that part of India&#39;s history! <br/><br/>The battle scenes are among the best I have ever seen (hollywood included), not just visually but also in terms of the performance of the lead pair.<br/><br/>The love story between BajiRao &amp; Mastani starts off strong with Mastaani fighting alongside BajiRao to protect Bundelkhand. Their chemistry is palpable. Mastani&#39;s strong willed decision to follow him to the heart of the Marathas in Pune is admirable.<br/><br/>But once she reaches Pune, the story changes its tone and focuses on the political machinations of the Peshwa&#39;s mother to prevent Mastani from attaining royal or even equal status as a wife. The powerful Brahmin community is invoked to ensure the same. It also shows the inner struggle of his first wife Kashi Bai &amp; her quiet yet dignified handling of the same!<br/><br/>This portion raised a lot of questions. Why would BajiRao leave Mastaani unprotected knowing the intentions of his mother &amp; brother. Why would Mastaani not do something to protect her only child knowing that he was a direct threat to the Peshwa-dom? Mastaani is portrayed as completely alone which was hard to believe.<br/><br/>The tragic &amp; long drawn out ending is difficult to watch. Deepika&#39;s frailty &amp; helplessness is so heart breaking. The efforts of Kashi Bai to stay strong and do the right thing for her husband at the end elevates her character. <br/><br/>Coming to performances, this is a role of a lifetime for Ranveer Singh and he performs like it is!! He is flawless in the battle scenes, the court scenes &amp; even the confrontations with his community. His chemistry with Deepika is there for all to see. His face softens, his eyes light up around her. <br/><br/>Deepika is the most consistent in her performance as the strong, yet frail warrior princess. Her eyes, her body language everything is perfect. You forget that she is Deepika as you feel the pain of Mastani.<br/><br/>Priyanka is very good in another strong role. She has some of the best dialogs &amp; her performance at the end of the film was the most memorable.<br/><br/>All in all, a great cinematic experience from SLB!!
  61. I went to watch it thinking that it is a sequel to Ram Leela. Sanjay proved me wrong. Bajirao Mastani is a good film with fantastic plot, good direction, great supporting cast and tightly edited. Let me tell you what surprised me the most?<br/><br/>Priyanka Chopra steals the show and force you to become her fan. I was stuck in depth of her performance. Ranveer was the main surprise. Bajirao was a difficult role to play and Ranveer was damn good at it. Deepika was not in good form. She seemed to be copying Ashwariya from Juda Akbar and Madhu Bala. <br/><br/>Sanjay focuses on emotions more than wars and beautifully concludes the film with a dialogue that love is above religion and love does not need the approval of religion to take place. <br/><br/>Over all, watch this film for great story, great execution of it, for Priyanka Chopra, for good direction, for good dialogues and screenplay. It is a joyful ride and do not miss it. After Bajrangi Bhaijaan it is the second best film of the year for Bollywood. I give it 7 out 10 for the beauty of this journey and deduct 3 points for Deepika&#39;s acting, illogical ending and some unanswered questions.
