- Surround the ship with 3 (hard limit) individual construct plates called SHELLS (no physical). Shells are advanced constructs (affected by tactical link ?) and are affected by both construct and shield mods. Shield value is the sum of all 3 shells' hull. When the ship gets hit, both shield (the shell that got hit) and hull (reduced damage) loose health (75% of the damage each, before applying reductions) and counts as both shield and hull hit. Shield self damage affects only shield, spread evenly to the three shells, hull self damage affects only hull (reduced damage). Damage resistance to construct and shield reduces only the damage to shells, ship hull resistance reduces only ship hull damage. The shield is tight around the ship (the internal ring) and it rotates with the ship. If a shell breaks, your hull is open on that side. Stuff on construct break happen on each shell break. Stuff on shield break happen when all shells are broken (activates cooldown). Cooldown only on full shield break. When not on cooldown, broken shells are redeployed after assembly time.

- +0.2 plating per enemy inside shield radius as long as shield is active(modified by shield effect power modifiers)(all plating effects apply only to hull damage)
- -3 flat hit damage taken per existing shell (3x3=9) (global plating, applied before splitting the damage, so it affects both hull and shield)(modified by shield effect power modifiers)
- On shell break: quick pulse that gives a weak knockback to things inside the shield radius.
- On end cooldown or shell break: drop a drifting shell piece that gets destroyed on physical hit, blocking a projectile or dealing small crash damage to an enemy. (shedding)
- with architect: one full round shell instead of 3 separated shells. Before applying architect effects, add together hull, plating and hull resistance effect (300 hull, 6 plating, 15% hull resistance) and assembly speed now it's same as cooldown (5 seconds) that is now also affected by assembly speed modifier. Shield and shell break together.
