P-38L MSFS Full Checklists

COCKPIT INSPECTION
  - Close and lock canopy
  - Check flight control movement
  - Adjust trim tab to 0-3° UP
  - Fuel selectors to RESERVE
  - Drop tank selector switches ON, arming switch to ARMED
  - Crack throttles
  - Propeller governers full forward
  - Mixtures at IDLE CUTOFF
  - Feathering switches NORMAL
  - Set altimeter
  - Flaps UP
ENGINE START
  - Parking brake SET
  - Battery ON
  - Magnetos to Both
  - Master magneto ON
  - Generators ON
  - Booster pumps ON
  - Engines primed
  - Left engine: ENERGIZE
  - Left engine: START
  - Left mixture to AUTO RICH
  - Left engine idle >1000 RPM
  - Right engine: ENERGIZE
  - Right engine: START
  - Right mixture to AUTO RICH
  - Right engine idle >1000 RPM
  - Check oil pressure registers both engines
AFTER ENGINE START
  - Comm radio SET
  - Transponder ON and SET
  - Compass switch ON
  - Compass heading needle set
  - Coolant and oil shutters AUTOMATIC (OFF)
  - Intercooler shutters OPEN
  - Fuel warning light test
  - Gear light test
  - Confirm fuel quantity
  - Lights on as needed
TAXI PROCEDURE
  - Coolant and oil shutters OPEN
  - Test brakes
RUN UP
  - Brakes held
  - Left engine RPM to 2300
  - Check magnetos <100RPM drop
  - Check prop governer back to 2100 RPM
  - Check voltmeter for 28 volts and ammeter charging <50 amps
  - Idle 1200RPM
  - Repeat right engine
  - Landing light ON
BEFORE TAKEOFF
  - Brakes held
  - Flaps as needed
  - Transponder to ALT
  - Side windows CLOSED
  - Rudder trim at 0°
  - Emergency pumps ON
  - Throttles set to takeoff power
  - Brakes released
AFTER TAKEOFF
  - Gear UP
  - Flaps UP >500ft
  - Start timer
- 15+ min switch to EXTERNAL tanks
- Reset timer
ABOVE FL100
  - Oxygen ON check flutter valve
  - Emergency pumps ON
  - Pitot heat ON
  - Landing light OFF
CRUISE
  - Set RPM then HG
  - Set mixture to AUTO LEAN
  - Emergency pumps OFF (if <FL100)
  - Drop tank selector switches SAFE, arming switch to SAFE
  - Coolers to AUTO
  - Monitor temps
- Monitor timer for switch to WING tanks based on fuel consumption chart
- Monitor for WING tank lights, switch to MAIN tanks
- Monitor MAIN tanks, switch to RESERVE tanks
BELOW FL100
  - Oxygen OFF
  - Emergency pumps OFF (if not landing)
  - Pitot heat as needed
  - Landing light ON
BEFORE LANDING
  - Fullest fuel tanks selected
  - Emergency pumps ON
  - Propellers to 2600 RPM
  - Mixture set to AUTO RICH
  - Intercooler shutters OPEN
APPROACH & LANDING
  - <250mph maneuver flaps DOWN
  - 175mph downwind leg
  - Landing gear DOWN
  - 150mph on base leg
  - 150mph on final
  - Flaps full
AFTER LANDING
  - Flaps UP
  - Emergency pumps OFF
  - Propeller governers full forward
  - Oil & Coolant shutters OPEN
  - Landing light OFF
  - Transponder to STDBY
  - Side windows OPEN
ENGINE SHUTDOWN
  - Parking brake SET
  - Throttles to 1600 RPM 10s
  - Throttles to 1200 RPM
  - Mixture controls to IDLE CUT-OFF
  - Open throttles upon engine stop
  - All switches OFF when propellers stop spinning
  - Fuel pumps OFF
