  1. >"Hey Ivan, clean up isle one, get moving I don't pay you to stand around"
  2. >Laika grumbled and glared at the old man, who flinched but still pointed at the mop, trying to look tough
  3. >Grabbing the mop and bucket, she moved over and spotted the issue, the Flippy machine had been spilling over all day and the floor was a sticky mess
  4. >Sighing to herself, she set up a caution sign and got to work on the tedious task, and she frowned when she found that hardly any progress was being made
  5. >Inspecting the bucket she noticed that it was just water, Laika turned to her employer "Старый трах, this is just water, will not clean properly. Where is cleaning supplies"
  6. >"Don't you speak that commie trash to me, and you clean with what you get, if you want some cleaning products to make your job easier its coming out of your pay check"
  7. >Flip recoiled at the harsh stare he was getting and felt his fight or flight response kick into overdrive "I mean, here" he tossed over a small bottle of Mr Clean
  8. >"Make it last, I'm not made of money" he wandered back behind the register
  9. >Pouring the solution into the water and getting back to work, Laika gave a barely noticeable smile as the sticky floor began to sparkle
  10. >Finished, she wiped her forehead, it was an especially hot summer day and Laika was very overdressed, walking to the back removing her ushanka and army jacket, she fanned her striped blue and white shirt
  11. >Flip was a cheap old bastard, and there was no air conditioning
  12. >A Flippy would be great right about now she thought, and rummaged around in her pockets, frowning when she only found a button
  13. >Laika looked at the old man at the register and considered murder
  14. >She'd just mopped the floor, she could make it look like an accident, she could have her Flippy then
  15. >Tilting her head she cracked her neck and she sighed to herself, maybe, but she wanted the paycheck, less money to be gained from homicide
  16.
  17. >"You work at Flip's?" Laika turned her head, seeing nothing she looked down, seeing Marla, standing a foot shorter than her
  18. >Marla was sipping from a Flippy, and once again Laika's thoughts drifted to violence motivated by refreshments before shaking them off
  19. >"Da,большой нос, I work here for summer" Marla lips pressed together "You always call me that, bye sure nouse? What does it mean?
  20. >"Is word for annoying girl" Laika said as Marla rolled her eyes, the tall girl took notice of a bag over the other girl's arm "What is purpose?"
  21. >Marla looked at the bag and held it up "This? Lacy and I got a paper route, the pay is decent for riding around on bikes doing pitching practice" She smiled
  22. >"I started a week ago, already got paid" Marla was grinning now as the Russian sneered, wiping more sweat off her brow "Why don't you get one?"
  23. >"No money, started today" Laika said simply as Marla raised an eyebrow, she knew Flip was too cheap to give out freebies to employees
  24. >"Its pretty hot out, I'll get you one" She turned to the machine before being stopped by a strong hand gripping her shoulder "Is no trouble"
  25.
  26. >Marla seemed to understand, she had gotten to know the Russian girl over the year, they sat together at lunch, and Laika was a juggernaut on the soccer field
  27. >She also knew that Laika was a proud person, she wouldn't accept things like this, but Marla was stubborn too "C'mon, you can buy one for me when you get paid, no worries"
  28. >Laika seemed to think for a moment, before letting her go and Marla took that as a yes as she went over and bought another slushie
  29. >Quickly returning the paper girl held out a large Flippy "I got you blue, I should've asked what you wanted, but I like blue so eeeeh"
  30. >The taller girl stared down at the cool drink before finally taking it and yelling over her shoulder "старый трах, I take break now"
  31. >Flip started to protest but a glare shut him up right away "10 minutes Vladimir"
  32. >Standing outside in the shade the two girls stood side by side in silence as they slurped
  33. >"большой нос...no, Marla" the girl in question turned with raised eyebrows, that might be the first time the Russian called her by name "Спасибо, my gratitude"
  34. >Marla grinned "What happened to bye sure nouse?"
  35. >"You are comrade, comrades deserve names"
