38. A teen gang in South London defend their block from an alien invasion.
 39. Attack the Block follows an unlucky young woman and a gang of tough inner city kids who make an unlikely alliance to try to defend their turf against an invasion of savage alien creatures, turning a South London apartment complex into an intergalactic war-zone.
 40. The movie itself is actually quite good, a decent balance of humor and story, but for the majority of decent British people watching, it will be difficult to laugh at/with the main characters, a group of young "chavs"(read scum)(the kind that is blighting British society) Now this is a movie review site, so I shouldn't be getting on my soapbox, but after the riots in London, Liverpool etc in recent weeks, riots which were instigated by exactly the type of people that this movie trys to portray as heroes, it's difficult to take an impartial stance and watch this just as a movie.

So we follow our gallant group of criminals as they damage property, terrorize people etc however in this movie they are doing all this for a good cause.. to save "their block". so we are expected to empathize with them.

Anyway, this all continues until the movie ends with the idiot masses chanting the name of the main character as he is arrested by the police, one can just imagine that "Attack the block 2" will follow, however in the next movie it will follow the inhabitants of the "block" first literally attacking the block and then following this by attacking(looting) the local JJB sports shop or Aldi supermarket.

In actual fact the BNP could quite easily have commissioned this movie as it doesn't present a glowing report on the immigration policy's of recent governments. (I know its supposed to be a lighthearted horror/comedy but does this movie accurately depict the contribution of black and Asian youth in Britain?) Maybe it does, but as I said this is a movie review site, not a soapbox for British political issues...
 41. I'm a middle class 62 year old that upholds Christian values and principles. I happened to catch this film knowing nothing about it, when there was nothing else available that I fancied watching. I was amazed at some of the reviews here from those that simply didn't get it, so I thought I'd write my own - it has to be watched with a broad mind, and a realisation of what many of today's disaffected youth can be like.

It was made plain right from the start that it was set in 'gangsta' land, and I thought that was novel for a sci-fi film to begin with. While I didn't 'like' these young thugs, I was gripped by the pace and acting, and as I like sci-fi/comedy (Earth Girls are Easy... Tremors etc) found I couldn't resist watching more. While I found it very entertaining throughout, what I particularly liked by the end was the way it demonstrated that each of these characters had somewhere inside them some glimmer of redeeming features, which I believe is very much the case in reality. I thought the producers got the tone just right with the run-down, un-cared-for surroundings, the subtle retro-throwbacks to other classic films, and the response of the gang to the bizarre situation they found themselves in.

There's no point in going into detail about the production values, 'each to his own'. All in all a - yes, sometimes hard to watch - very successful bit of cinema, well away from the Hollywood norm.
 42. The movie, which should have been titled "Defend the Block," illustrates once again that zombie, horror and monster movies are a port of entry for new filmmakers. The genre is the star.
 43. The movie takes place on Guy Fawkes night, November 5th, which is traditionally celebrated with fireworks and bonfires in England. a5c7b9f00b
