- The Encounter and Rolling rule in Kingdoms in the Stars are as follows.
- Each characters abilities are rated using six different stats, though only five of these stats affect encounters. They are:
- POWER: The sheer destructive power of an ability.
- SPEED: The speed and agility of an ability.
- DURABILITY: The durability and toughness of an ability.
- PRECISION: The accuracy of an ability.
- RANGE: The range at which an ability can reach.
- POTENTIAL: The evolutionary potential of an ability. This has no effect in any given encounter, but a high rating indicates an ability that still has room to grow and become stronger.
- A character's biochip ability is ranked from E-A in each of these stats. In an encounter, players will vote on a course of action that draws from one of these abilities (e.g "I use my power to kick the door down"). A character's rating in a certain stat affects the following roll as so:
- A - ROLL 3 D20, AND TAKE THE HIGHEST RESULT
- B - ROLL 2 D20, AND TAKE THE HIGHEST RESULT
- C - ROLL 1 D20.
- D - ROLL 2 D20, AND TAKE THE LOWEST RESULT
- E - ROLL 3 D20, AND TAKE THE LOWEST RESULT
- The degrees of success from these rolls are as follows:
- 1: CRITICAL FAILURE
- 2-5: DEFINITE FAILURE
- 6-10: MODERATE FAILURE
- 11-15: MODERATE SUCCESS
- 15-19: DEFINITE SUCCESS
- 20: CRITICAL SUCCESS
