  8.
  9. -----------------------------------------
  10.
  11. Kegor:
  12. Inquisitive
  13. Investigator type
  14. Overly serious most times and sparingly humorous when things become too bleak
  15. Studious when it comes to Kingdom affairs
  16. 30-45 years old
  17. First found talking to King Sigmayne in his palace, talking of the Orcs and their terrorist activities. Dedicated to the kingdom. Head of military affairs.
  18.
  19. ------------------------------------------
  20.
  21. {Jackos told me to speak with you about the Redguards we routed near the Bog.}
  22.
  23. Jackos huh? Haven't spoken to that wily dog for a while... oh that's right, must have been among the letters - thanks for reminding me of my mounting paperwork.
  24.
  25. Yet if what you say is true and those redguards are gone, then we can commence stage 2 - and that's ridding them for good.
  26.
  27. Got What seem to be scouting posts up the river, serving to guide whatever red ship comes sailing our way, we would have dealt with them already if it wasn't for the hazards such confines bring. Any skirmish could quickly flip to slaughter in a heartbeat.
  28.
  29. {Sounds like a job better done alone without raising any alarms - tell me what needs to be done.}
  30.
  31. You got a mind for strategy - since our scouts are hawking other targets, then you may need to undergo this alone.
  32.
  33. {Yes, I'm more than comfortable with working by myself.}
  34.
  35. I can see that, well since you're so eager, these are the 3 last known locations of those posts. Burn whatever equipment that may exist there and pacify any hostile threat in any way you see fit.
  36.
  37. You can always bring another, but you gotta know when company becomes a crowd.
  38.
  39. Right, give us your map. I'll ink the 3 areas where those posts were last seen, it may be that the posts remain but the people attending them do move, a lot.
  40.
  41. So expect small resistance, shouldn't be much trouble for one of your craft. To reiterate; burn all the gear you find, make sure the reds can't set up camp any time soon. Understand?
  42.
  43. {I understand}
  44.
  45. Great, Maybe now these river rats will get the message. Good luck to you, I'll make sure the reward is waiting on the table when you return.
  46.
  47. {The outposts have been dealt with.}
  48.
  49. So you did! Thought you returned having botched the job! Truly a marvel to have someone as skilled as you serve this kingdom.
  50.
  51. If it were up to me, you'd have been knighted a long time ago. Expecting the reward right? I hope it compensates the ordeal we've dragged you through.
  52.
  53. It's going to be a VERY long time till that shameless lot has the gall to send more of their thieves up our waters.
  54.
  55. {So, what's among the knightly duties that I should attend to?}
  56.
  57. I'm sure you know of the Kingdom and its subjects by now; Sigmayne has dispensed funding for a number of renovations throughout the realm...
  58.
  59. By now you've certainly seen the bulk of our Kingdom - you may have also seen the efforts to rebuild important areas. All thanks to your king's generosity...
  60.
  61. So there's much to do around the realm, with a lot of busy people eager to relieve themselves of any extra duties. And that's where you come in.
  62.
  63. We're overdue for three reports, from three important assets. First is from Deepcrag; having recently been liberated and is presently under repairs.
  64.
  65. Second is Lonely Griffon's Retreat, fine appellation - our most remote outpost bordering the northern wastes. You'll have to find a man called Tyyr. Careful, he's a short temper.
  66.
  67. Lastly there's the mines within the southern mire, "The Bog" for short. Have an overseer there who keeps the labor in check, he'll have our report.
  68.
  69.
  70. And lastly The Bog, since the deluge of Redguard thieves have been dealt with, that quagmire has seen a fair bit of attention from the Kingdom too; Yes, even to my surprise.
  71.
  72. {Here are the reports, let's say there was some "resistance" in getting them.}
  73.
  74. Ha, welcome to the reach. Sorry to burden you with being the sole guardian for this kingdom - At least you've earned the favor of those other than the king and I, I'm sure that'll come into use in these uncertain times.
  75.
  76. You've surely faced worse, if the accounts from Raven Spring are anything to go by. You've probably fostered the impression of being the sole guardian of this realm - don't fret, we've all got our burdens.
  77.
  78. These duties put you in good graces with the people, and gaining favor is always a benefit. I'll inform the king of your deeds - you'll be famous in no time.
  79.
  80. Lest I forget, the king needs you to become an Escort.
  81.
  82. {What type of "Escort"?}
  83.
  84. Ha, knight such jests could be deemed offensive to certain ears. Yet you wont find that with me..
  85.
  86. Escort in the more literal sense, we've got children soon to depart Raven Spring - their destination being here. Sigmayne will elaborate. *Sigh* Never an hours rest for the kingdom's finest!
  87.
  88.
  89. {I was set to defend the people at Griffon's Retreat, the witchmen had overwhelmed us and killed the men I was to get the reports from.}
  90.
  91. Damn, this is not the news I wanted - they can't survive without Tyyr, like sheep awaiting slaughter.
  92.
  93. I'll have to be quick, there must be an armed presence there for the time being. We'll see to it that the people of that outpost are protected. A small crew of conscripts should suffice.
  94.
  95. {Maybe send those still there to Raven Spring}
  96.
  97. Of course, the witchmen have only become more daring - it wouldn't make a lick of sense to keep them there. We could convert the outpost for explicit military function - serve a higher use.
  98.
  99. We'll probably have to send conscripts up their way to replenish those we've lost - or if they so desire, have them leave for Raven Spring, and have that hamlet converted to a staging outpost for the military.
  100.
  101. Will help with intel on the Reach, hardly ever do we go that deep into the wilds unless there's a serious threat.
  102.
  103. [Scene where an Orc orator has a speech within Evermore, with you and Kegor being part of the audience]
  104.
  105. Fancy seeing you again. You'll want to stay and watch this, it'll be entertaining...
  106.
  107. But the merchants don't want peace... So a dream it'll remain...Damn...
  108.
  109. Trouble in the brothel?! Halt this speech - we need everyone to vacate the area.
  110.
  111. Come Knight, prepare to get busy.
  112.
  113.
  114. [Scene where speech is interrupted by murder in nearby brothel]
  115.
  116. Gods, how deranged would you need to be? Where did he go, Omid?
  117.
  118. My gods, twisted bastard. Omid! Where did he go?!
  119.
  120. Kath, you wont be harmed now, we'll make sure of that. Come forth and tell us what you saw.
  121.
  122. Follow me knight, that son-of-a-bitch couldn't have got far. We'll see where this trail leads.
  123.
  124. There's only one way out through this storeroom, and that's down. I'll stay here, you'll descend this lift and hopefully find this wretch.
  125.
  126. The rest of you should stay clear for the time being, I'm sure the Inn can accommodate you for the night.
  127.
  128. Kath, omid, you'll need to stay clear of this Brothel for a while. Check at the Inn, we'll cover your stay there until the matter is over.
  129.
  130. Looks like death follows you everywhere Knight - just make sure that it doesn't catch up.
  131.
  132. See if you can find this cretin hiding among the beggars, I'll cordon of the scene, secure all the evidence - going to need an empty stomach for this one.
  133.
  134. {I return from those wretched sewers, this item is all I could find down there.}
  135.
  136. Give it here... I really hope this isn't what I think it is; seems to be a piece of flesh with what I only assume is the image of an eye carved into the anterior.
  137.
  138. Pass it over....
  139.
  140. Looks as if it were torn, not cut - odd. This carving onto the flesh was surely done by blade, yet if he had the means to make this marking, why the tearing?
  141.
  142. Have you seen this symbol anywhere, Knight? An eye, looking up.
  143.
  144. {Almost looks like what those witchmen bear on their cloth}
  145.
  146. You're right, it's uncanny. I haven't the evidence to infer a reason as of yet, it's all so confusing. Though we may have someone who can help speed up this investigation.
  147.
  148. Are you familiar with the missionary in Raven spring?
  149.
  150. Not entirely sure what to make of this, but I may know of someone who does. I think you're already familiar with the missionary in Raven Spring?
  151.
  152. {Very, how does he factor into this?}
  153.
  154. Well as you may know already, the man has been a prodigy in alteration and has helped trace a great many relics in the past. I'm hoping he can employ those same skills in determining the source of this item.
  155.
  156. He's a master in Alteration, helping us to trace a great many relics - abetting in many of our investigations. I'm hoping that those same skills can determine where our killer went.
  157.
  158. If you looked closer at this grisly find, you'd see there's still splinters of metal - no doubt from the tool he used for this symbol.
  159.
  160. Bring this to the Missionary, preferably in a closed pouch as that's quite the pungent stench. Make the missionary know that I sent you, hopefully he'll have some free time.
  161.
  162. [Scene where Kegor argues with King sigmayne to see reason, city of evermore is being sacked by peasant rebellion and hostile kingdom (who has employed services of orcs]
  163.
  164. Sigmayne! The traitors have opened the gate, the Orcs are in the walls and are bloodying the streets with our blood!.
  165.
  166. Sigmayne! They've breached the gate, traitors and enemies are wreaking chaos on our streets!
  167.
  168. King please! Orcs, witchmen! They're in the walls! They're bleeding us dry!
  169.
  170. My King! Please listen!
  171.
  172. [Scene after you argue with king Sigmayne about his perverse relations with children who were "rescued" from the reach, Kegor has only just discovered this through your actions]
  173.
  174. Sigmayne?!..... The children? I, uh.... How could you do this King?
  175.
  176. The walls are falling and the serfs have turned the city red in their rampage! We cannot be doing this!
  177.
  178. Knight... I'm so sorry, this is not your fault. This kingdom or your life, forgive me, but I cannot let this Kingdom burn.
  179.
  180. Forgive me knight, you're not to blame. But the kingdom is at stake here, it's either you or our realm.
  181.
  182.
  183.
  184. [Player has normal conversation with Kegor]
  185.
  186. {Why spend gold on the Reach now? Why not earlier?}
  187.
  188. Principal reason that we've, or you've, taken care of our largest hindrances within the realm. Meaning that our gold wouldn't be wasted in a land that would soon be looted again.
  189.
  190. Another is that our deals with the merchant class in this province makes any fiscal venture pale to the gold we're receiving.
  191.
  192. Beyond that, the relations we have with the provincial Merchants are filling the treasury, no need to hoard such wealth when half the land is in ruin.
  193.
  194. {The merchants seem to play a large part in politics here.}
  195.
  196. They do, a bit too much in fact - almost seems their whims are the Kings whims. No greater arbiter than those who control gold.
  197.
  198. The king is not alone, nobility rejoices whenever new wealth arrives, despite the means. Principles be damned.
  199.
  200. Those merchants have grand plans, worrying plans. Especially those pertinent to new Orsinium and the trade route it borders.
  201.
  202. {What are they planning with Orsinium?}
  203.
  204. An attempt to reduce its influence in their respective locale, yet they haven't been open on how - though I, as a military man, am certain that it wont be pretty.
  205.
  206. We're still not sure where the Orcs have holed themselves, there's many an enclave that's been mistaken for their capital. Yet we know the Orcs aren't content with scant dwellings.
  207.
  208. What we are sure of is that they're close to the imperial road, leading out from the Divide through the valleys to Cyrodil. A major trade route.
  209.
  210. And that threatens the Merchants dearly.
  211.
  212. Seems we're in the final epoch of the Orc race, even the small enclaves of Skyrim will soon be under threat from their warring Nordic neighbors.
  213.
  214. As a military man, I've been sought for advise - tactical aid and the like. And the plans drawn for the "Orc problem" are terrifying.
  215.
  216. From what I've seen, this could be the final epoch of the Orc race, only a matter of time until those enclaves in Skyrim are under threat. Eventually there wont be one hole the Orc can call its own.
  217.
  218. All for a pile of gold, at least this bloodshed wont be all for naught.
  219.
  220.
  221.
  222. {Do you think it's possible to tame the reach?}
  223.
  224. Were you to ask me a year ago, I'd simply laugh at the proposition - yet now I feel there's a small chance. Just have to make sure that we put the right person in Raven Spring and that the Witchmen are kept at bay.
  225.
  226. Were I asked that a year ago, I'd have laughed - though now something feels different. That sensation that had long since died.
  227.
  228. {Hope?}
  229.
  230. Aye that's it, it's the yearning for something better. If we get the right person leading Raven Spring, then Evermore can truly turn itself around.
  231.
  232. Keep the witchmen at bay, have all other malcontents dealt with. And now Mortifayne isn't here to muddle our plans, all should be smooth sailing.
  233.
  234. There's disarray among those savage northerners, It wont be long until we reclaim all of the reach. Peace at last! Ha, let's not jinx our fortune.
  235.
  236. Seeing as we smashed their savage plot and with Mortifayne out of the picture, we should be seeing disarray and panic among the pagans. It wont be long until we reclaim the north.
  237.
  238. {Has anything like this happened in the past?}
  239.
  240. We're not lacking in grisly murders and savage displays in the east - yet this very case has a certain, familiar scent to it that evokes a string of murders decades ago.
  241.
  242. Sordid murders come as often as the rain here, however this specific case carries a familiar scent - evoking a string of murders decades ago.
  243.
  244. Similar victims, similar method - made unique by the sheer speed and ferocity of it all. Would think the killer is still in the prime of the lives..
  245.
  246. So how can it be the same culprit from all those years ago? Something I hope to find out.
  247.
  248. Similar victims and similar results from the looks of it, yet the speed of this killer combined with the viciousness of it all - you'd think he'd still be in the prime of his life.
  249.
  250. {How do we know it's a man? Maybe it's a jealous woman?}
  251.
  252. Well, going from reports of those prior murders - we're making a substantiated claim that it's a man. We never caught the killer before, heck, we never saw him.
  253.
  254. It's a substantiated claim, coming from numerous eye-witness reports. Though none of the guard have caught sight of him, and it appears the killer may still live among us.
  255.
  256. We need more evidence however, what we do have is spurious at best - most of the witness are beggars and the like. People that aren't fond of the truth...
  257.
  258.
  259. Sadly we had to drop the case not long after it opened, not many people care for dead harlots. And the same may happen again if we don't catch this debased madman.
  260.
  261. Not long after the case did we have to bury it, unfortunately. Aren't many people who cry for dead harlots you know. I fear the same will happen again if we're not faster this time.
  262.
  263. [Scene where Kegor confronts player, where player had committed treason against the king]
  264.
  265. Knight... I'm so sorry, this is not your fault. This kingdom or your life, forgive me, but I cannot let this Kingdom burn.
  266.
  267. {[Persuade]Kegor, hold on. We can't be fighting amongst ourselves while the kingdom is burning. We need unity!}
  268.
  269. Knight I cannot go against the kings orders! You have committed grave treason against the royal family, were I to show mercy then I would have to share in your fate.
  270.
  271. No Knight, the king is right. The kingdom only started suffering these problems since your arrival. To think I trusted someone who would completely undermine us. It ends here.
  272.
  273. {[Persuade] And what of the children, Kegor? The people have suffered immensely from the royalty in this land, will you have them suffer further?}
  274.
  275. We cannot be doing this knight! Tradition and history is at stake here! We cannot abandon our principles!
  276.
  277. {[Persuade] Principles? Principles that are forced on the powerless and discarded by those who aren't? Look at what those "principles" have lead to!}
  278.
  279. Would you have us become a chaotic rabble of savages, Knight?
  280.
  281. Gods... I knew this was coming, but not in what form. My every action has abetted monsters.... All that I was proud of...
  282.
  283. A farce...
  284.
  285. {Go ahead, you can die with your sick king.}
  286.
  287. These are the moments that make us then, very well, goodbye knight.
  288.
  289. [Scene after Kegor confronts player, Kegor questions king's sick activities]
  290.
  291. The children? I, uh.... How could you do this my King?
  292.
  293. Sigmayne, the walls are falling and the peaseants have turned the city red in their rampage! We cannot be doing this!
  294.
  295. Sigmayne, he's right.... We should have helped... But we just didn't care. If I am to die, I'll die doing what's right.
  296.
  297. Knight! I'll protect the children! Deal with the rest!
  298.
  299.
  300.
  301.
  302.
  303. {Do I have a story to tell you...}
  304.
  305. You've returned? One would have thought you left the reach for good with all the riches you've earned. Been a good two weeks since I sent you off.
  306.
  307. {Any developments?}
  308.
  309. Nothing substantial since the murders, Omid demanded retribution and brought dubious evidence indicting a whole slew of beggars, and clients. Though giving them all a look over, I just didn't think any had it in them to divulge in such savagery.
  310.
  311. Sure, the beggars may be high off their minds from scum, and we have seen them brutalize each other with little respite. Yet, to escape and lead us on this wild goose chase?
  312.
  313. {Scum?}
  314.
  315. Skooma.
  316.
  317. {Oh, so you're saying these beggars aren't smart enough to do this}
  318.
  319. If a beggar was smart they wouldn't be begging now would they?
  320.
  321. {It's not always their choice}
  322.
  323. Gaining sympathy for them knight? Generosity has a tendency to attract more of them, not less.
  324.
  325. Back on point; have you discovered anything for yourself?
  326.
  327. {I traversed that Rejects Respite and came across a demon who told me of the killer [Give details]}
  328.
  329. That is indeed a story, I really wish you stopped at the doors of that cursed sanctum and vented your suspicions elsewhere. That facility is an augur upon the kingdom, a taint I wish we could forget.
  330.
  331. And this demon you spoke of, meeting him in a daedric realm you say? Not to doubt your sanity as I'm sure of your lucidity - but were you knocked unconscious by any chance?
  332.
  333. Such experiences don't seem congruent.
  334.
  335. {I was, but I knew what I saw. The feeling of the world was all too real, the danger was too real}
  336.
  337. Regaling our past conversations, I can't say you're mad with good conscience. And from what happened in Raven Spring, I feel inclined to believe you.
  338.
  339. {I'm not sure, but we have nothing else to go on}
  340.
  341. You're right, well if you're confident in following up on your suspicions then feel free, just make sure to tell me if there's any nobility involved. Don't want to be causing a ruckus now.
  342.
  343. {What was rejects respite?}
  344.
  345. A hole to dump all the kingdom's undesirables, when we weren't exiling them first. The transaction of souls between the settlements and that haunted facility grew so prevalent that it became its own lucrative business.
  346.
  347. Many lords and elders forgoing exiling completely, instead sending their dissidents off to be studied on.
  348.
  349. {What did these studies include?}
  350.
  351. "Deducing criminal traits and why otherwise civilized men engaged in barbarism"; a fine pretense. They first pooled their subjects from the witchmen, not much came out of their minds - probably found the cultural differences too great.
  352.
  353. And by culture, I mean sanity.
  354.
  355. Then they directed their attention on those with a slice more clarity to their thoughts, which they harvested a great litany of research from.
  356.
  357. Yet that was the facade, I went there myself - and let me tell you, that was a far cry from what actually happened.
  358.
  359. {Everything has some twisted bent here..}
  360.
  361. It sure does; Apparatus in every room, looked to rend men and fill them with toxic fluids - should have been outlawed by any society. And the smell, gods it smelt like the deepest crevice of the most pungent swamp.
  362.
  363. Deafening screams like a pin in the ear, bellowing from the lower depths of the dungeons. And this was from the levels of the facility that they permitted me to see.
  364.
  365. {Yes, there was a lower level hidden behind an illusory rock}
  366.
  367. I had guessed - every sense was assailed within there, but there was a much deeper tinge of malaise that unnerved me. It seemed as my soul bottomed out through my body.
  368.
  369. So the rumors of them researching those "strange entities" were true?
  370.
  371. {From what I saw, yes. That's when the madness started and I was sent unconscious}
  372.
  373. If that's the case, then forgive me for any doubt I expressed earlier. We should have never allowed that place to function.
  374.
  375. You can thank Sigmayne's father for that, but I digress - we don't want to make our tension any worse with the potential of treason.
  376.
  377.
  378.
  379. {Did you have any dealings with Mortifayne}
  380.
  381. Seldom, if ever - I had advisors talk on my behalf as the whispers of his paranoia were enough to have me avoid him. That's one of the great merits of bureaucracy, getting those beneath to undertake tasks you wouldn't.
  382.
  383. Sigmayne was far too lenient on the tyrant - the allure of greater prosperity can keep the eyes away from any atrocity.
  384.
  385. Sigmaynes moral failing would be Mortifayne's undoing, when that lord decided to take the economy of the kingdom into his hands. Almost as soon as the news was spread by the merchants of Mortifayne's meddling, the decree was inked to have his lordship revoked.
  386.
  387. {Money speaks}
  388.
  389. The chorus of the world.
  390.
  391.
  392. {You made it here?}
  393.
  394. Not without a few scars - Can't imagine what the sights seen by these children will leave on their souls, an imprint of hatred on their minds.
  395.
  396. {We can fix that with care, we need to make things better}
  397.
  398. Yes, *Sad sigh* Yes we have to. They'll never be the innocent youth they once were, but we can steer them from a path that mimics the tragic, withered figures here.
  399.
  400. {And yourself?}
  401.
  402. I'll do my best to manage the logistics, make sure enough provisions get rationed among the refugees and hope for council from Cyrodil - we may be looking at making a new home in the empire's homeland.
  403.
  404. Never did I think events would turn this desperate.
  405.
  406. {Did you know about the king?}
  407.
  408. Trust me, I had my suspicions - a basement prohibited to anyone except a select few is sure to have skeletons. I just didn't know the extent of the horror in the palace's belly.
  409.
  410. I've talked with others about the delousing of children once they reach the city; cleaned for any trace of plague - yet rarely being seen once finished. Sure, there were sightings of the young but they were always in haste - never playing outside or taking in their new home.
  411.
  412. We assumed they were shy - fearful of a strange environment, with the unprecedented dizziness of a cosmopolitan city. It was to be expected. So we concluded that they remained within their foster homes.
  413.
  414. But now, well, the epiphany makes me sick. I thought I knew the kingdom inside out - it looks like I wasn't cynical enough.
  415.
  416. {You can't change the past, just take what happened as a lesson}
  417.
  418. It's bizarre isn't it, everything within me compels me to forget - yet I can't for the knowledge that it can happen again.
  419.
  420.
  421.
  422. [PLANS FOR FURTHER DIALOGUE]
  423.
  424. {Player should ask kegor if anything similar to the murder in the brothel has happened before. He should say that reach is not short on sadistic killers - yet this one bears a striking resemblance to past murder decades ago, with similar thing done to body. Say that they never caught the killer yet others said that they saw him, said he was Orc. Almost became child horror story, like boogeyman}
  425.
  426. {Player returns from rejects respite and tells kegor what you found, say that you met a strange entity and that he made you appear back at deepcrag. Say you are confused and that the situation isn't as straigh forward as you though. Also bring up nature of rejects respite and if Kegor had knowledge of it, he should say it was run by sigmayne father and that it shut down ages ago because of unknown incident}
  427.
  428. {Talk to Kegor about mortifayne, how mortifayne caused sigmayne trouble only recently because of hassling trade. Comment of king refusing to help when it had nothing to do with gold}
  429.
  430. {Ask kegor where his family is, say that he sent them to daggerfall for proper education with priests so they can return to help kingdom. Maybe wife died and this leads to some other personality quirk. He couldn't save wife, feels like failure so tries hardest to save kingdom}
  431.
  432. {If kegor reaches divide, have closure with him about what's happened and his opinion on what to do next. Should say that the kingdom can survive its walls and fancy baubles, but it can't survive it's people. Kegor should also comment on why horustair has appeared, but say he doesn't want to draw blood as of yet because of everything that's happening}
  433.
  434. {Kegor should be havig conversation with King about Horustair vanishing when return from rejects respite}
