- I used to be momentary friends with a drive thru employee. We were about the same age and based on our clothing articles we seemed to be into the same things, so there was an undeniable spark. I was always there during a busy time so we only were able to fit in about 10 seconds of small talk per week.
- “Hey, I like your Belle and Sebastian shirt.” “Thanks.”
- “Have you seen Jurassic Park?” “No, I heard-”
- It took me ten years of these interactions for me to then explain the plot of Jurassic Park to him. It then took him a couple weeks to explain to me that he had actually seen Jurassic Park since the conversation had began 10 years ago but didn’t want to be rude and interrupt my explanation. I told him that it was okay and I expressed sympathy for the fact that he’s been a drive thru attendant at the same fast food chain for the past two decades. He told me that he told me that he kept the job so that he could talk to me. I asked him why he went through all of that trouble just for our minute and sparse interactions. He told me that he’s been in love with me for years and asked me to marry him. I told him yes, but he died of old age. Or maybe he was fired, I’m not sure; I just know that he wasn’t there the next time I went.
