  1. To whom it may concern:
  2.
  3. RE: ticket number <reference number>
  4.
  5. Thank you for your response dated 16 April 2013 describing the justification for my suspension.
  6.
  7. Per your response, I was suspended for the words “Hell”, “Sex” and “wank” (American English: “Jerk”).
  8.
  9. I remind you that Star Trek Online is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. You should be aware that the ESRB T rating extends to and includes “infrequent use of strong language”; if you aren't I refer you to my previous comments on the importance of training.
  10.
  11. “Wank” is to British and Australian English as “Jerk” is to American audiences, and is used in exactly the same way. If the use of a synonym is acceptable for an “E” rated children's cartoon (Spongebob Squarepants), I am struggling to see how it becomes unacceptable in a “T” rated environment.
  12.
  13. The inclusion of the word 'sex' as supporting evidence for my suspension is frankly baffling. If the use of the word is acceptable in an education setting for 12 and 13 year olds (Sex education commonly starts in 5th grade), that's a fairly strong indicator that it isn't profane.
  14.
  15. “Hell” is simply piling on the absurdities when there are missions in the game which uses the word: I refer you to “Temporal Ambassador”, which includes the following line of dialogue:
  16.
  17. “I was the helm officer on the Enterprise before everything went to hell” - Lt. Richard Castillo
  18.
  19. You cannot seriously expect the playerbase to accept that a word that's used by an NPC in the game will attract a sanction if they use it themselves.
  20.
  21. Assuming that you are serious and that these are the reasons supporting my suspension, could you please create a sticky post in the forums containing a list of words and phrases which are in common use in casual and professional environments (including, at the very least, “Jerk”, “Hell” and “Sex”) but which will earn a suspension if used in game.
  22.
  23. If on reflection, you agree that the suspension was unsupported and unsupportable, my previous ticket details the appropriate remedy.
