  1. ARROW TARGETS
  2.
  3. These provide invaluable information on where you hit each step with relation to the center of the Marvelous window, so focus as much of your attention on the arrow targets as possible. It gets even more important as you move into primarily MA because there is no other indication of drifting away from the Marvelous window until you receive a Fast/Slow from a Perfect, at which point it’s already too late to correct; you’ve already received the timing error.

  5. Practice looking directly at the targets while processing all other information using your peripheral. When I play, I’m looking directly at the Up/Down targets, while reading the chart’s sequence of patterns in my peripheral vision. Most of my attention is on lining up the arrows with the targets, but more specifically the Up/Down arrows. The visual feedback on where I hit each Up/Down arrow with relation to the targets is a checkpoint to make sure I’m not drifting away from the center of the Marvelous window; seeing it flash slightly above the targets is a Slow Marvelous and seeing it flash below is a Fast Marvelous. Utilizing this feedback creates an essential indication of error without actually receiving a timing error (i.e. Perfect). I occasionally look over to the Left/Right targets if there are no Up/Down arrows for a long period of time, but this is usually unnecessary because my aural timing should be able to carry me to the next Up/Down visual checkpoint.

  7. The faster you can set your scroll speed, the wider the visual Marvelous window will be on the targets, thus the easier it will be to see if you’re drifting away from the Marvelous window. For example, let’s say the arrows flash 1cm above the targets when you hit the arrows 5ms late if your scroll speed is 300. If your scroll speed is 600 instead, the arrows will be scrolling twice as fast, meaning the arrows will flash 2cm above the targets for that same 5ms, making it more apparent that the arrow was hit late and that you need to hit subsequent arrows earlier than the last.
