  1. The demonic monstrosity wavered, crippled by her many wounds. She stumbled and tried desperately to get back up on her feet, but her strength had already failed her. Her assailant silently looked on as she tumbled once again to the ground. He had determined that this time, she was not getting back up. Before and after her union with the demonic mastermind, she had been responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands on that Mars base. Their blood cried for vengeance; Vengeance that even now stared this monster in the face. She had not even strength to prop herself up, leaving her too weak to resist as the Doom Slayer stomped her jaw open and grabbed her upper mandible, forcing her maw to open wide enough to receive the muzzle end of his ultimate weapon. Horror filled her as the Doom Slayer rammed it down her throat. It glowed green with focused argent energy, oscillating loudly as it gathered enough power for the final blow. Finally, in a grand display of his consummate victory, the Doom Slayer pulled the trigger, releasing the BFG's payload. It shook as it charged the shot before a deafening blast echoed throughout the chasm. The Mastermind's gore painted the entire area behind it as the massive shot blasted her brains out in a gruesome spectacle of exuded viscera. Her body recoiled back slightly before falling and slumping onto the ground. A cavernous open trench had replaced most of her head, glowing slightly as the heat of the shot only began to wane. The remains of her brain jiggled somewhat as the Doom Slayer examined his kill in silent scrutiny. He felt genuine relief as the assurance that his enemy was dead swept over him. He took in the bloody scenery, quietly appreciating the power of his new weapon. His relief and triumph were short-lived however, as a familiar blue energy coursed through his being, coupled with a message on his visor:
  2.
  3.
  4. "TETHER ACTIVATED."
  5.
  6.
  7. As Hayden dragged him back to humanity's dimension, he could only feel his burning contempt for the enigmatic CEO slowly boil in his brain. Whatever he was up to, he had better not interfere any more with his itinerary. His meddling, his short-sighted goals, his ego and hubris; all had gotten on the Doom Slayer's last nerve. Sure enough, as the tether's arcing blue energy wore off, there he was, in all his menacing, metallic hue. His welcome meant little to the Doom Slayer, who listened in annoyance as he congratulated him. "You've won. It's over. You stopped the invasion and closed the portal... but it's come at a price: Argent, VEGA... this entire operation." The only thing on the Marine's mind was escaping the tether's pull so he could destroy the arrogant cyborg, but even he was powerless against its sway. He listened only begrudgingly to Dr. Hayden. "You see, I've watched you work - come to understand your motivation. You think the only way is to kill them all - leave nothing behind... and you may be right." For one shining moment, there was hope in the Doom Marine's mind that perhaps Hayden had learned a lesson from all of this; that the pursuit of Argent energy was far too dangerous, and that it was a venture that wasn't worth the risk of killing everyone involved. That hope was extinguished almost the second it emerged as Samuel continued. "... But we can't just shut it all down. Without Argent energy, it will be worse. I don't expect you to agree...." The contempt harbored by the Marine towards the Cyborg burned instantly into intense hatred as he pilfered the Crucible, snatching it away from him with a magnetic pull. 'but with this..." Hayden continued, holding up the hellish artifact "We can continue our work! I am not the villain in this story. I do what i do because there is no choice."
  8.
  9. A loud automated voice over the intercom interrupted him. "RE-ROUTING TETHER COORDINATES... COMPLETE."
  10.
  11. "Our time is up. I can't kill you, but I won't have you standing in our way." Hayden said as he activated an unknown power from the artifact, revealing a large, luminous blade of unknown red energy evenly inscribed with hellish runes. it hummed ominously as Hayden brandished it. With that, he bid farewell. "Until we see each other again."
  12.
  13. Then, in a moment, the Doom Slayer felt himself jerked upward, helpless to resist as the tether pulled him up and away to an unknown destination.
  14. _____________________________
  15.
  16. "Everyone..." Asgore said, addressing the motley crew around him. "This is the beginning of a bright new future. An era of peace between humans and monsters... Frisk, I have something to ask of you. Will you act as our ambassador to the humans?"
  17.
  18. With a smile and a nod, Frisk replied "Of course I would!"
  19.
  20. Papyrus couldn't help but pipe in. "Yeah! Frisk will be the best ambassador! And I, the Great Papyrus, will be the best mascot! I'll go make a good first impression!" With that, the skeleton ran off, leaving everyone else comically bewildered.
  21.
  22. "Welp, someone's gotta keep him from getting into trouble. See you guys!" Sans said as he waltzed off.
  23.
  24. "Man, do I have to do everything?!" Undyne said, giving chase. "Papyrus, wait up!"
  25.
  26. Alphys couldn't miss out on whatever escapades the two were about to get into. "Hey Undyne!! Wait up!!" she said before scurrying behind them.
  27.
  28. "Whoops..." Asgore commented as everyone took their leave. "Uh, should I do something?" The only response he got was from a somewhat irritated Toriel, glaring at him in annoyance. With nothing else to do for the moment, he decided to follow the others. "Well, gotta go!" he said before running off to join the other monsters.
  29.
  30. "It seems that everyone is quite eager to set off." said Toriel. "Frisk, you came from this world, right? So you must have a place to return to, do you not? What will you do now?"
  31.
  32. Before the child could respond, both of them noticed some sort of ominous blue light intensifying behind them in the mountain entrance. Frisk spoke up in mixed fear and curiosity, clinging to Toriel's hand. "W-What's that light? Does it have anything to do with-"
  33.
  34. Toriel cut her off, concentrating on the light's source, unsure of what it was or from how deep into the underground it was emanating. "Hold on, my child..." her countenance was stern, with narrow, glinting eyes and slightly furrowed brow pointed steadfastly at the cave entrance. Suddenly, a loud, crashing, thunderous sound blasted out of the cave, toppling over both Mother and Adopted child, the latter letting out a shriek as she continued to cling to Toriel. The noise echoed throughout the surrounding mountains, rumbling like the sound of distant thunder. The light and accompanying din had gotten the attention of the other monsters, who had just managed to come back up to the entrance to see Frisk and Toriel recovering. The queen looked even more focused, even a little angry. Undyne was the first to speak up, as everyone paused to see what had just happened.
  35.
  36. "Guys, are you okay? What was that?! We saw a light and-"
  37.
  38. "Quiet for a moment...." Toriel said with concentrated motherly anger in her voice. Whatever this was, it didn't seem in any way to be accidental, and that which was this deliberately overt was not usually the result of a friendly gesture. If the source of this noise intended to hurt her, her friends, or most importantly, Frisk in any way, she was ready to deal retribution with unprecedented fury. She stood poised at the door before briefly facing her company, saying "Follow me", walking carefully back into the underground, her confused friends following suit.
  39.
  40. "Whatever it was, it was r-really loud..." Alphys stammered meekly. "What do you think it was, your Highness?"
  41.
  42. The Queen gave no answer, taking no chances to get distracted and therefore open to any kind of attack. In her stead, her Husband gave his reply. "I have no idea, doctor. You could probably hear it for miles around. Tori has the right idea here - be on your guard. there's no telling who or what caused that."
  43.
  44. "I'm wiling to bet it's no biggie." Undyne said coyly, spinning a spear in her hand. "If it turns out to be any trouble, we've got Papyrus, Frisk, Asgore, and myself here! If it tries anything we can take it out in no ti-"
  45.
  46. She was interrupted by a shuffling noise coming from the throne room. Toriel's forward gaze further intensified. "be quiet..." she said as she ignited a fireball in each hand, ready to unleash it on any malicious force. The group all began to arm themselves: Frisk with a dagger she found in Asgore's home, Asgore with his trident, Papyrus with bones, and Undyne with her spear. Sans' left eye went blue, joining in with the glow of everyone else's armament of choice. Alphys silently activated something on her phone as she texted Mettaton their circumstances, turning it into the same kind of gun she armed Frisk with.
  47.
  48. "Get ready, guys...." Sans said as his hand took on the same eery glow as his eye. "What do you see, Toriel?" he asked as she peeked around the corner.
  49.
  50. "There's someone in there..." She whispered. "Okay everyone, get behind me quietly. Prepare to jump out on my signal..." Following her orders, they all lined up behind her as she poised to assault anything hostile in the room. "Ready?" They all nodded in the affirmative.
  51.
  52. "One... two... THREE!"
  53.
  54. They pounced out, all aiming their respective arm at a mysterious figure in the center of the room. "Who goes there?!" Toriel boomed in a regal, threatening voice. She received no audible answer from the figure, who immediately turned his attention to them. He seemed to be holding some sort of gun in his hands, and in the same instant he noticed them, he trained it on them. It was large and glowing green, small arcs of electricity could bee seen popping out of its chassis and the small vents on either side of its massive frame. Everyone else just barely held back their fire, flinching as he took aim. He never fired, however. He just examined them all, head tilting to the side a bit while he lowered his gun. "I say again, who goes there?" Toriel once again commanded. She didn't get an answer. "Remove your helmet!" She commanded further. "Remove it at once!" The mysterious figure hesitantly removed his helmet, revealing a stern looking man with deep set eyes and rough cut features. He began to approach Toriel but only got five feet closer to her before a blue haze encapsulated him, tossing him against both walls. The back of his head hit a wall, and he grimaced as the impact seemingly knocked him unconscious. Everyone looked at his attacker in bewilderment.
  55.
  56. "Sans?!" Frisk said as the blue glow left Sans' eye and outstretched hand. "What the heck was that?!"
  57.
  58. "Guy looked kinda sketchy." he replied nonchalantly. "Didn't wanna take any chances." He expected some sort of congratulation or thanks from Toriel and perhaps the others, but as she gave her reply, his smile slowly turned upside down.
  59.
  60. "Sans, we still didn't know if he was hostile or not! If he was friendly, he certainly won't be when he wakes up!"
  61.
  62. "Did you SEE that huge gun he had?"
  63.
  64. "Did you see how you knocked his butt unconscious?!" Undyne retorted. "I'll tell you, if someone knocked me out like that and I woke up, they'd better run, 'cuz as soon as my eyes open, I would just run towards the nearest living thing and kill it."
  65.
  66. "Undyne has a point." Asgore added. "We'll have to keep him restrained if we're going to be able to peaceably interface with him."
  67.
  68. "Maybe not..." Papyrus replied. "I, the great Papyrus, know a lot about capturing humans, don't I Frisk? I've come to learn that the best way to do it is with friendship!"
  69.
  70. A little leery of Papyrus' seeming naivete, Undyne tried to tell him as it was. "Pap, I dunno about you, but this guy looks like a soldier or a warrior of some kind. The moment he wakes up, he'll wail on us if he's not tied down..."
  71.
  72. "Wait! hear me out!" Papyrus protested. "If he sees chains on him, he won't think we want to be his friends! If we just carry him somewhere safe, and then wake him up ourselves, he'll see it was just a big misunderstanding, and he'll be best buds with us!"
  73.
  74. The queen, though somewhat amused by Papyrus' friendly demeanor, saw his comments in a more cynical light. "Papyrus, please. We need to think about-"
  75.
  76. "HE'S WAKING UP!" Alphys called out as the Marine's looming figure overshadowed Papyrus. Everyone raised their weapons again, but not before Papyrus felt a large hand on his shoulder. He shivered as the figure turned him around and looked him in the eyes. Everyone stood poised to save Papyrus and attack the man should he try to harm the skeleton. Before any of them launched a preemptive blow however, he smiled at Papyrus, raised the shaking monster's hand, shaped it into a fist, and bumped it with his own, waving his fingers as he pulled it back.
  77.
  78. The skeleton took a minute to process what had just happened before a smile and happy countenance again retook his face. "Y-You see guys? He wants to be my friend now! Everything's good! I told you we just needed to be nice! He- AH!"
  79.
  80. As Papyrus spoke the man put a palm to his face, shaking his head and quietly snickering before picking him up by the shoulders and placing him behind himself. He kept his smug expression as he eyed all of his wary company, who stared at him in a mixture of hostility, confusion, and awe before he raised and lowered his hand, signalling them to drop their weapons. Undyne initially refused as everyone else conceded. "Look here, buck-o..." She said defiantly, pointing her spear at his face. "You make one false move, and I promise you, you're gonna-" She would never finish that sentence. Her mouth stood agape as he quickly and calmly grabbed her spear and broke it in one fluid motion, all while wearing that smug, confident expression. He dropped the spearhead onto the stone floor, resulting in a clanking sound that further shrunk the pupils in Undyne's unbelieving eyes before he signaled the still war-postured woman to lower her weapon (or what was left of it) and walked calmly to his helmet, picking it up and dusting it off.
  81.
  82. "You look pretty good for a guy who just got knocked out..." Sans said in suspicion. "Just how long were you really down?" The man's smug expression only intensified as he faced Sans, shaking his head as if to imply that he had never been unconscious. Sans seemed to understand his expression. "You were awake that whole time weren't you?!" The man shrugged his shoulders and raised his eyebrows before Papyrus again addressed him.
  83.
  84. "So you heard what I said?" He received an affirmative nod from the man as reply. "YIPPEE! Like I said everyone, he's our friend now! I told you it would work, didn't I? Sir, would you-... Uh, sir?" He faced his new friend again to see that he was walking off to the entrance.
  85.
  86. Undyne spoke up in the ensuing pause, her face still cemented in disbelief. "He broke my spear...."
  87.
  88. Toriel attempted to intercept him. "Sir, we're glad to know you harbor no ill will towards us, but we must be further acquainted. Can you at least tell us your name?" He ignored her as he advanced towards the hall overlooking New Home, putting on his helmet and pulling out a large, belt fed rifle seemingly out of nowhere and half shouldering it. "Are you on the lookout for something?" He nodded in affirmation, continuing his advance.
  89.
  90. "He took Sans' attack like it was nothing and played dead! What could he possibly be looking out for?" Alphys asked quietly as everyone followed the man with Toriel
  91.
  92. "Whatever it is, he better look out for me!" Undyne interjected. "He's not going to pull a stunt like that and get away with it!"
  93.
  94. "Undyne, please." Asgore replied. "Listen now, rematch later."
  95.
  96. "What do you mean 'listen?' he hasn't even said anythi-"
  97.
  98. "Wait, hold on..." Sans said, ignoring Undyne's visible frustration with being so constantly interrupted. "They stopped."
  99.
  100. The Marine halted as he set eyes on New Home, somewhat perplexed by its bleak appearance. He slowly let his arms down to his sides, rifle pointing lazily downward as he took in the sight. He could see a myriad of creatures roaming the streets, going about their everyday lives. They all looked so different, just like the odd fellows he had just encountered, who even now, piled up all around him, some switching between facing him and facing New Home. None of the denizens of this city seemed to notice their observers on the balcony of Asgore's palace. The unknown warrior put a hand to his chin, trying to make sense of it all. Where exactly was he? This certainly wasn't any pit in Hell he'd ever seen, and as far as he could tell, he was the only Human here, other than the small child now staying close to the goat-woman. It was definitely the strangest conundrum he'd ever encountered. Deep in the back of his mind, some suspicion of Hell tricking him again almost simultaneously appeared and disappeared. As far as Demon tricks go, fabricating an entire realm or kingdom (or whatever this was) did not seem to fit a demonic modus operandi. If Hell had anything to do with any kind of domain, it would be absorption, not mimicry. He turned to face his new acquaintances and shrugged his shoulders, trying to communicate his utter confusion.
  101.
  102. "You don't know where this is, do you?" Sans asked. the warrior shrugged again and nodded his head.
  103.
  104. "Perhaps I can introduce our new friend to his environment." Asgore spoke up. "Human, what you're looking at is my kingdom. My name is Asgore, King of the Underground. You see, you and Frisk here are the only humans here right now. Everyone else here is what you would call a 'monster.' I am, Toriel is, and so is almost everyone you're looking at." The man nodded attentively before the King asked him a question. "Now, what is your name? I don't believe we've heard it yet."
  105.
  106. A silent chuckle and a shake of his head were the only reply he gave. "Oh no need to be so shy!" Papyrus spoke up. "Go on, tell us your name! After all, I need to know what to call my new friend, don't I?"
  107.
  108. Giving a worried smile, the man continued to shake his head, making motions with his hand across his throat. This didn't deter the others from piping in, starting with Frisk. "My name's Frisk, if that helps." the child spoke meekly. He looked down at the little child, standing closely to her mother figure. She was by no means this woman's actual child, but the bond between the two was evident. "It's okay, I was scared when i first got here too."
  109.
  110. "And I'm Toriel!" The queen added. "I'm sorry for not properly introducing myself earlier. As you remember, we were all very afraid of you at first. You'll have to forgive us" He gave her a thumbs up, indicating he held no grudges. "Ah, wonderful! I assure you, if you cannot return to wherever you came from, we'll be glad to accept you here! In fact, I might have to make you one of my butterscotch pies sometime soon!"
  111.
  112. Then, another one of the odd "monsters" spoke up. "M-My name's Alphys! I-I'm the royal scientist here. N-nice to meet you!" He waved just a little at her, his worried smile still persisting. "That suit looks pretty advanced... maybe I can borrow it for research some time?" He gave Alphys a quizzical look, cocking his head sideways again, smirking somewhat. "W-WAIT I mean, not right now, um, and uh, I don't mean you have to, I-I mean... You do have other clothes right? Heh heh, I-it's not like I wanted you to, uhhh..." Amidst some friendly chuckles from the others, he heard another voice consoling her.
  113.
  114. "Oh, take it easy, Al!" Undyne said smiling and hugging her companion. "I think he knows what's up." He turned towards her. "What?" she asked when his eyes turned up to face her. "Oh, right. Name's Undyne, punk!" she said with a ferocious smile. "Don't think I'll forget that spear thing, buck-o. You owe me a sparring match!" His brows went from pointing upward, to one pointing up, the other down as his expression changed from concerned and nervous to a cocky smirk as his arms crossed in confidence. "OH HO-HO, that's how you wanna play it huh?!" she said, cracking her knuckles. "Tell you what, we can just go ahead and start right nooowwww-oh..." She stopped silent when she heard him crack his knuckles in reply, only noticeably louder. "... I think we're gonna get along great!" She said, smiling again.
  115.
  116. "Name's Sans." the smiling, smaller skeleton said, getting the tall warrior to look down and give another nervous wave. "And uh, yeah, that's about it."
  117.
  118. "And then of course you have his amazing brother! The Great Papyrus!" the affable skeleton said. "I think you and I will be the best of pals! You could teach me how to use all those cool guns of yours, and I can teach you how to be as great as I am!" The Marine could only help but shake his head, smile, and raise a fist towards his newfound, skeletal friend, who timidly reciprocated his gesture. Bumping the man's fist, he exclaimed "WOWEE! We even have our own secret handshake!"
  119.
  120. Between all this commotion, the Doom Slayer could not help but think away all possibilities of Hell being involved in his newly developing situation. In all of the ploys he had seen demons use, none of them even remotely used any kind of feigned, let alone real, friendship. Even in their treacherous deal with him, they never concealed their greed and rancor towards the people and deities of Argent D'Nur. Whatever this was, wherever Hayden had sent him to, he was confident that the wicked denizens of the underworld had nothing to do with it.
  121.
  122. "Alright, alright, everyone!" Toriel giggled. "No need to overwhelm him, now!" She turned her attention to the armor clad man, noticing his confused, but nonetheless friendly expression. "See now? there's nothing to be afraid of!"
  123.
  124. Everyone started piping in, encouraging the enigmatic warrior to divulge his name. His expression wavered somewhat, still retaining an air of confusion and worry, but covered over with a newfound comfort around these beings. As they continued to ask him, However, he couldn't help but feel more and more worried about his answer, and soon enough, his smile vanished. They grew quieter as his expression became more stern and tense. finally, after some deliberation on his part, he pulled out an audio log. "What's that?" Alphys asked. "is it some kind of recording?" He turned away from them with a hand under his chin as he set the device down and the recording played. They all jumped a little upon hearing the deep, growling voice that emanated from the small recorder. the subject matter did not do much to relieve their worries.
  125.
  126. "IN THE FIRST AGE, IN THE FIRST BATTLE, WHEN THE SHADOWS FIRST LENGTHENED, ONE STOOD. BURNED BY THE EMBERS OF ARMAGEDDON, HIS SOUL BLISTERED BY THE FIRES OF HELL AND TAINTED BEYOND ASCENSION, HE CHOSE THE PATH OF PERPETUAL TORMENT. IN HIS RAVENOUS HATRED HE FOUND NO PEACE, AND WITH BOILING BLOOD, HE SCOURED THE UMBRAL PLAINS SEEKING VENGEANCE AGAINST THE DARK LORDS WHO HAD WRONGED HIM. HE WORE THE CROWN OF THE NIGHT SENTINELS, AND THOSE THAT TASTED THE BITE OF HIS SWORD NAMED HIM... THE DOOM SLAYER."
  127.
  128. A worried, tense atmosphere gripped everyone as the menacing voice closed its sermon. Silence prevailed the group until it was broken by Asgore. "'Doom Slayer'... that is your name?" The Doom Slayer faced opposite them still, raising a hand as if to halt any further replies or responses. He then pointed back down at the recorder. As everyone returned their attention thereto, the same terrible voice spoke up once more, and continued to do so until it had told them enough about the warrior before them. It spoke of his rampage through hell, narrating the bloody path he carved from the Great Steppe to the Blood temples. It old of his encounter with the Seraphim and the "Unnamed Wretch" and his defeat of the Titan. Finally, it closed on his eventual capture and entombment. When it was finished speaking, he picked it back up and stowed it away, leaving everyone behind him in somewhat of a stupor.
  129.
  130. "This is... not what we all expected...." Toriel said nervously, visibly off-put by the Doom Slayer's unorthodox, and frankly disturbing history. Not hiding her fear of what this man was revealed to be capable of doing, she asked him "Now... you don't mean any hostility to us right? Absolutely no rancor towards us?" The Doom Slayer shook his head, turned toward the queen, and warmly smiled, patting her on the shoulder. Although no one made a sound, every face seemed to slowly drain the tension within away as they realized once and for all that this man was no trouble to them.
  131.
  132. "Wow..." Alphys said in astonishment. "I wasn't expecting your background to be so intense... for what you've been through though, you seems pretty relaxed and trusting."
  133.
  134. Undyne couldn't help but stand in awe. Answering her friend, she said "I think he just knows he has nothing to fear here." Turning to the Hell-walker, she addressed him with newfound enthusiasm "... So you trashed HELL ITSELF and broke out?! Is that how you got here?! DUDE!! You and me SO have to get some training in!!"
  135.
  136. "Now now, let's not get ahead of ourselves." Asgore spoke up. "He still needs to know a bit more about our situation, what with the barrier being broken. We also have to prepare to inform the underground. We don't want everyone pouring out at once now do we? Now of course, I'm not sure if... 'Doom Slayer' should be our friend's new name. Sir, are you not sure there's nothing else we can call you?" The Marine simply shrugged his shoulders, unsure of what else they could call him. All other names had been lost to him, and for eons, the only names he knew were those given him by his prey.
  137.
  138. "What?" Undyne asked. "I think his name's just fine the way it is!"
  139.
  140. "How about 'THE GREAT DOOMSTER?!'" Papyrus piped up.
  141.
  142. "That sounds like a 'HELL'luva name, Pap!" Sans chuckled
  143.
  144. "SANS, DON'T DO THIS TO ME. NOT NOW."
  145.
  146. Alphys joined in. "I was thinking more along the lines of 'SIR NIGHTGUARD'... you know since.. since it says he was A Night guardian or-or something.. uhh...."
  147.
  148. "How about just 'Doomguy?'" Frisk asked. Everyone was silent for just a moment before Sans spoke up.
  149.
  150. "Good call, kiddo!" he said. "My vote's on 'Doomguy!' Who else?"
  151.
  152. "I can dig it." Undyne replied.
  153.
  154. "S-sure why not?"
  155.
  156. "Better name than I can come up with!"
  157.
  158. "Yes Dreemurr, we know... So, Mr... 'Doomguy...' would you be interested in coming inside the palace? We can discuss your future with us and the humans there."
  159.
  160. "And get some grub while we're at it?" Sans asked.
  161.
  162. "Why of course! I could bake us all something delightful to eat!"
  163.
  164. "I'm sure no one's got anything against a good cup of tea?"
  165.
  166. "Not me!" Frisk replied as everyone set off for the palace. "C'mon Doomguy, let's go!" She said, gripping the confused Marine by the hand.
  167.
  168. As the group made their way to the palatial hall, The Doom Slayer couldn't overthrow the dumbfounded state of mind that continued to grip his every thought. Friendliness and courtesy this profuse felt almost intimidating to him. Just a few hours ago he was ripping demons apart in his quest to free the wraiths. He had brought the Barons of Hell to their knees. He had conquered the Hell Guards and the cyber-demon. He had destroyed the unified being of Olivia Pierce and the Spider Mastermind. Now he was preparing to dine on baked goods and tea, holding company with a young child and a motley group of odd creatures he had never seen or heard of before, each and every one of them seeming to overflow with amicable personality and cheer. The whole situation was so thoroughly odd that he began to wonder if he was lost in slumber somewhere between dimensions. Perhaps Hayden meant to send him here so that upon his return, there would presumably be less reason to crush his head in. "Oh, but I sent you to such a wonderful place!" he would say. "Surely you have no reason to kill me!" As they entered the cozy dining room in Asgore's home, he began to wonder what he would do from here. Two big things were on his mind. One: find a way to stop Samuel Hayden's short-sighted ploy at using Argent energy. Two: think of how to handle his new friends. What could they do to help? Would they hinder him? All that focus and vindictiveness conflicted with the long-lost, re-awakened desire in him to enjoy some of the good things in life, which for the first time in he didn't remember how long, were in the process of being prepared for him. Toriel had already started cooking, as a smell from the kitchen so indicated. Everyone was putting up extra tables and chairs and making small talk. The warrior woman was hugging the tall skeleton and the scientist by their necks, all three laughing as they sat next to each other. The King seemed to be preparing tea of some sort in a kettle on his own hands, using some sort of fire magic. The child stood by her adopted mother, helping her cook while the short skeleton closed a refrigerator and pulled out a pilfered trophy from it out of his coat pocket: some sort of red condiment or drink which he was now gulping down like water. With all the tables and chairs set up, one seat was left open next to the tall Skeleton. What was his name... "Papyrus?" He slapped the chair, beckoning him to come over and be seated. "Hey Doomguy!" He called out. "I saved you a seat!" All at once the whole scene seemed so alien to him. It had been so, so long since he enjoyed anything like this. Had he enjoyed anything like this? His memory was so consumed by his hellish endeavors and quest for vengeance he had long forgotten anything unrelated to them. Consumed in his thoughts, he hadn't realized how long he had been standing there at the entrance to the dining room. it took another call to wake him up again.

  172. Taking a deep breath and entering the room, he could only think of one thing anymore amidst the wonderful aromas of the King's tea and the Queen's cooking: how long had it been since he had actually eaten something?
