  1. The moment they enter, he looks over to Agrien, a single wave offered as him and Lax already make it past the entire workshop to reach the part which no doubt held patients.
  2.
  3. "Hey, Agrien!"
  4.
  5. "We're going to work with the patients from the mines. Think I'm on the verge of breakthrough, and I really can't afford to stall anymore."
  6.
  7. Wait. What's with Nerin's new attire and everything?
  8.
  9. "Just letting you know, as I assume you're fine with it."
  10. (Nerin)
  11.
  12. Lax would have entered the room, taking a long glance around his surroundings - it is the first time he's entered the clinic, so he allows himself to inspect it thoroughly.
  13.
  14. He drives a hand through his purple locks, driving them backwards, so they may not block his view, sniffing once and taking a peek upstairs, without walking up the stairs, for now at least.
  15.
  16. "Not all too bad."
  17. (Lax)
  18.
  19. Agrien ast by her office as she started working on her ever so useful and common elixirs, the enhancers or boosters as the population was already starting to call them. Given she had already been paid for Ciarán to do them, it would be too much of a problem for the ginger to simply mix most of those materials in a single cauldron, lighting the lid and seeing the acid boil with all of the ingredients inside.
  20.
  21. The golden scale for weight, and the compass and the ruler for lengths. It was mostly idle motion of some of the work at that point, given how often she already did.
  22.
  23. With a yell, she answered Nerin in the back.
  24.
  25. "Feel free to, Nerin! I should take a leap to see how you're doing shortly, and we have a new type of patients as well! Some reporting dizziness and with light electrical burns on their chests. I'm guessing there are new beasts down there, too! Their files are on the office, you can have their copies too!"
  26.
  27. She explained as she continued working on Ciarán's batch.
  28. (Agrien Vandroy)
  29.
  30. A simple nod is given in return.
  31.
  32. "Alright. I'll get on with it, and-- I'll also get the files from the office." With that being said, he actually took a minute or two to do exactly that - upon retrieving the necessary files, only then he would actually pace towards the section with the patients.
  33.
  34. Now, it was the time to work with those patients. So close to breakthrough, so close to actually curing his brother.. all that he would need is just a tiny bit work with the biomods, and restorative capabilities of Biomancy.
  35.
  36. So close.
  37. So close to fulfilling his promise.
  38.
  39. Inevitably, this even caused him to smile.. because finally, everything was coming together. Finally, he could see his brother again - even if he'd remain in the wilds, at the very least, he could sleep soundly at night, knowing that he's safe and healthy. But..
  40.
  41. But now? Now's not the time for that.
  42.
  43. "Come, Lax."
  44.
  45. "There are reports of miners getting infection in their lungs. As nature magi, it's likely your specialization to weed out those spores and fungi, or bacteria- as I assume that's precisely what it is."
  46.
  47. "In the meantime, I'll intervene on their body with my own technique, and also see how your work affects them - then, construct a biomod out of that."
  48.
  49. As they walk, he beckons his chosen-brother.
  50. (Nerin)
  51.
  52. Lax would follow along, clearly not all too keen on this process, visible in the way he is, right now. "So, you're working in tandem with the doctor, Agri-..?" - he'd question that, humming for himself.
  53.
  54. "If this helps her research, then I might politely ask for a tax - I need to do my business too, so before you turn around and try to stare my soul out of my body, don't, it won't work this time."
  55.
  56. A gentle cackle is being offered, but he was entirely serious with the idea of it - he aimed not to work for free, and it was only obvious that he'd ask for something, considering his not-so-tight relationship with the Boar.
  57.
  58. Acceptance is something.
  59.
  60. Science and progress, those are entirely different subjects.
  61.
  62. "And yes, I can figure that out-.. I assume I am not allowed to dissect their chests and verify their lungs, so I will just Magic my way out of this. Make some room for me."
  63.
  64. And so, he would pace towards whatever patient might be around, taking a glance at them, for the time being.
  65. (Lax)
  66.
  67. Even if it earned a surprised look..
  68. He merely nodded.
  69.
  70. In the end, he couldn't blame Lax for being this way, for looking out for himself; if anything, it would only mean that he no longer has to watch over his chosen-brother, knowing full well that he'll be able to take care of himself in the times to come. Where Lax may expect rage, or the soul-staring gaze from Nerin..
  71.
  72. He only smiles.
  73.
  74. "I'm short on money, but I'll work hard to pay you off, if that's what it means curing Zus and getting to progress of what I intended to." Because that knowledge and the well-being of his brother mattered more. Even if Lax doesn't see it.. truth is, Nerin would do the same even for him.
  75.
  76. He'd stand between death and Lax, if he had to.
  77.
  78. "Come, come." Yet, he had no time to stall or ponder about it; of all things, this had to be taken care of as soon asthey can, as time was of essence. If they were to fail, if they were to falter.. then he imagines that this would become not only his downfall, but that of his brother too.
  79.
  80. "Here's the plan.."
  81.
  82. "I'm going to make their bodies susceptible to being affected by magic, and invade their circuits. At that point, I want you to try and reach out to the infection within their lungs, and work on removing it out of their body."
  83.
  84. "You'll need to do so carefully, as we cannot allow ourselves to hurt them."
  85.
  86. "You think you can do that?"
  87. (Nerin)
  88.
  89. A dismissive wave is being offered to Nerin as Lax simply walks past him, rubbing his hands together. "That'd make fifteen velocity boosters, but we can discuss the number of them later on."
  90.
  91. Lax clearly doubted that, even though Nerin's thoughts would only be of peace and stability within the family - after all, he even had reasons to doubt everything and everybody.
  92.
  93. And so, he would approach the patient. "Don't worry, I got this - if they are mundanes, they should be susceptible to my Magic already."
  94.
  95. And so, Lax would now eye one of the patients, resting his palms above their chest, allowing some of his Mana to surge out of his body.
  96.
  97. A green glimmer of light would be summoned, engulfing the teen's frame as he focuses even so slightly, rendering Nerin blind for a few good moments. Whenever he'd regain his sight, he could see an ephemeral construct growing onto Lax's Pattern, a mantle of green mist remaining attached to his back, whilst his limbs would not be covered by healing petals, awaiting to be commanded by their Master. The Crown of ephemeral thorns and roses too would raise high above his head, bringing forth his Mastery over the entirety of Nature.
  98.
  99. Only a faint mutter is being heard after that, which might be recognizable to Nerin. "Aspect of the Wild: the Blooming Breeze."
  100.
  101. And so, even standing by the soon-to-be Druid's side would allow one to feel refreshed, only if he wished to, however, and Nerin might be able to perceive that.
  102.
  103. "Do your juju, and then I will drive out the toxins."
  104. (Lax)
  105.
  106. Steep price, no doubt..
  107.
  108. But it's not something that Nerin would really focus on. If anything, he'd rather be focusing on his work here and ensure that he would be able to make for a breakthrough soon enough; it's something that he always kept on his mind, when driving himself forward- even now, when the flash of light causes him to narrow his eyes upon the spectacle of bizarre manifestations on Lax..
  109.
  110. He only nods along to continue.
  111.
  112. And without a word, he approaches closer. A single hand is laid over to the patient's chest; steadily, the invasion of Nerin's mana begins, providing the surge that would otherwise manifest itself as the light upon mana circuits. This time around, however, it seems to flicker with the deep crimson, spreading out like veins underneath the skin.
  113.
  114. With the bone used as 'basis' for this bodily invasion.. upon affecting mana circuits that surround the patient's bones, he spreadsout this effect to the mana circuits that belong to flesh and organs, the web patterns covering and engulfing the entirety of it. There's no telling just what it could be, but.. when this dim light of web pattern settles in?
  115.
  116. The flesh begins to steadily morph and shift, almost as if something wriggles beneath.
  117.
  118. "..Their mana circuits are pierced."
  119.
  120. "I'll keep them stable. For now, you'll need to carefully flush out the toxin- at the same time, I will craft biomod in the accordance to your magic, which will allow me to learn of Nature's healing properties - as well as the benefits it can bring to the body."
  121.
  122. "I will also heal whatever damage the toxin has done already. Do it slow, please- these patients are on the deathbed, and any wrong move could cause them to die."
  123.
  124. Something that Lax could no doubt tell. These patients.. they look weak and sickly, hardly reacting to anything that was being done to them.
  125.
  126. It's almost as if they're one foot in the grave already.
  127. (Nerin)
  128.
  129. Lax was tempted to send them back to the Cycle, and that is no doubt - instead of experimenting on them, they are better off embracing the Good Death.
  130.
  131. However, Nerin was in the way of that, and so he finds no other way than to comply to the instructions, redirecting the glowing, pink petals to engulf one of the patients, embebbing into their Pattern by now.
  132.
  133. As the Magic had seeped deep inside the victims' bodies, Lax would allow it to invade their bloodstream, flesh and very organs, allowing the purifying particles of energy to chase out the toxin out of their body, the Aspect driving it out by himself, guiding it through their bodies whilst neutralizing it, so that it may leave no traces of infection behind itself.
  134.
  135. The neutralized spores are surrounded by a protective barrier, which would not permit them to affect whatever path the Nature-man chooses to eliminate them by.
  136.
  137. "I will take the infection out, you hurry up and heal them. There will be no more infection left, but if they manage to make it, that I can not guarantee. Doing what we are doing is already a risk."
  138.
  139. And that much was true, and Nerin knew it, too.
  140.
  141. Nevertheless, soon enough, clouds of yellow spores would be dragged out of the patient, through her nostrils and mouth, being engulfed by a green, protective layer of sorts - at this point, Nerin knew he should act.
  142.
  143. The Aspect maintains the toxin into the air, not allowing it to spread, awaiting for the medic to do his Magic.
  144. (Lax)
  145.
  146. So ever carefully observant.
  147.
  148. It's at that point which he takes his time observing the way that infection affects them, as well as how it's driven out of the body. Had it stayed on the inside, it would mean that the patient would no doubt die.. for it was a very lethal spore-like infection from the deepest depths of the mines. While magi could likely survive even after being infected by it..
  149.
  150. Non-magi? They cannot.
  151.
  152. The prospect of being infected by such spores was not exactly terrifying to Nerin. Quite on the contrary, he was willing to embrace the danger of working with such putrid toxins, all for his advancement, betterment and his dreams to be achieved - there's also the fact of the helping these people, too. While he was never a martyr or a savior outside of his family, he knew how to have compassion.
  153.
  154. At least to an extent.
  155.
  156. The moment that Lax has retrieved the toxins, he knew when to act; the invasion of mana circuits upon flesh and vital organs began to suffuse with the actual body, the healing properties of Nerin's mana flooding the patient entirely, so much so that it would begin affecting the body itself - through the technique of imprinting.
  157.
  158. After all, it's not exactly new technique. Magi tend to empower themselves all the time.. and this results in their bodies becoming faster, stronger, better. So what exactly stops Nerin from doing the healing effect such as this, provided he's practiced enough? And he most certainly practiced a lot.
  159.
  160. More than anyone could imagine.
  161.
  162. At this point, the patient seemingly regains some of their colors; they're getting better, there's no doubt, but.. there's also something that Nerin wanted to examine. While the effects of the infection are steadily healed, he speaks out to Lax.
  163.
  164. "We're not done yet."
  165.
  166. "Turn these spores towards me, please. I want to inspect them up close. If you can, 'split' them so that I'd gain access to their very core and see how it works entirely."
  167.
  168. "I need all information that can be drawn. If you have any way to do that, do so."
  169. (Nerin)
  170.
  171. These spores, this infection, it was something that the Aspect had not yet dealt with, up until now at least - he would take his time inspecting it whilst Nerin worked his Magic with the patient.
  172.
  173. Being able to understand and manipulate spores for a very long time, it would not be impossible for Lax to do as requested, but it might be challenging for Nerin to understand the concept of spores, and the way they are acting, as this is more than natural spore.
  174.
  175. "Try your best to understand it - I'm having a feeling this is not natural, but pushed forth by Magic. If I struggled enough, I could make something this potent, too." - he'd call out to Nerin, as he willworks his Mana, investing some of it into the infection and manipulating it, allowing the spores to spread into the secured sphere of Energy, from which it will not spread.
  176.
  177. Essentially, the spores are turning to their rawest form, which may be studied at one's whim. It is as if a magnifying glass would be placed above the spores themselves, so the image seeps far more deep into their Pattern.
  178.
  179. "Take your time, what can I say."
  180.
  181. And so, Lax would turn around, redirecting the orb of Energy Nerin's way, for him to study the infection as he wills to, remaining strangely focused, something that his brother rarely saw of him.
  182.
  183. This might actually be draining him of energy, this precise work - nevertheless, he is doing extraordinary fine.
  184. (Lax)
  185.
  186. Something about 'knowing your enemy' is useful in situations such as these. If anything, he knew that so long as he would understand the spores correctly, this infection.. then at least, he could replicate the biomods for vital organs to resist the infections as a whole- which, by extension, makes the body tougher as a whole. It's something that he always kept on his mind whenever he worked.
  187.
  188. The fact that there's always room for the improvement.
  189.
  190. "Hold it still.." A brief mutter, and he would begin to inspect it closer; the patterns, the suffusion of mana that makes it manifest in the physical form.. the miracle upon canvas of virology and bacteriology, if one would say so - but as much as he admired the work, he knew this would have to be snuffed out.
  191.
  192. Following the example of pattern, he would begin working.
  193.
  194. A grafted biomod upon the patient's mana circuits, one that's made in accordance to the design of the infection that he seeks to combat. If anything, it almost looks.. awfully familiar, for the pattern webs across the body seem to meld and shape, the flesh of the patient changing in accordance to Nerin's whims - all as result of imprinting as the technique being done.
  195.
  196. It's almost like the body is his canvas..
  197. And magic is his paint and brush.
  198.
  199. There's no doubt that Nerin worked hard. It takes him a while, but the body of the patient seems to burst with odd vitality to it, the deep crimson lines thoroughly covering the body in the most unnatural, yet beneficial way. If one were to pay attention, the patient that was sick a moment ago was steadily changing his shape, expression and health.
  200.
  201. From sickly,
  202. to healthy,
  203. to empowered.
  204.
  205. A useful craft, no doubt, and it's something that Nerin has been working on for years by now. Ever since he's stepped foot in Osrona to bloom as magi, for all these years, he's been working really hard.. and at last, it began to pay off in such matter. Perhaps, it's coupled with the fact that he's grown to ridiculously large strength, especially when compared to past self.
  206.
  207. But wouldn't it be bad for him to do nothing with that strength?
  208.
  209. The crafted biomod settles in carefully. For all intents and purposes, it bolsters the patient's vitality; but to top it off, he feeds his mana circuits with excess of the mana.. knowing full well about the limits and appropriate quantity and quality of mana that he should be feeding - all thanks to the previous, albeit dangerous experimentation.
  210.
  211. He's gotten far. Really far.
  212.
  213. "I think it's.. done." In fact, Nerin inevitably seems to nudge Lax to shift the spores closer back to the patient- and upon doing so, Lax could notice that the spores don't seem to affect him much. It's almost as if antibodies were made.. something to prevent infection in the first place.
  214.
  215. "We should do it to the rest as well. Come."
  216.
  217. Their work is almost done.
  218. (Nerin)
  219.
  220. And once Lax notices the way the spores interact with the victim, he would nod, clenching his fist, for the infection to be assimilated and destroyed, leaving behind a stench of certain, darker Magics. He'd notice that, too, seemingly drawn, yet with mixed feelings about this.
  221.
  222. Not the most holy of people, that is for sure.
  223.
  224. "Move on to the next one, make room for me not to blow the infection in your face." - he'd call out, having to work in a secure environment in order to prevail - he was aware of that, and that was what he had done.
  225.
  226. Luckily enough, every batch of grass was secure for the Aspect.
  227.
  228. His work too pays off.
  229.
  230. "Not to suck my own phallus, but I am actually impressed by myself at times, you know. It is both a blessing and a curse to be smart in this era." - he'd chuckle, whilst working on invading another patient's system with his Mana, the petals sticking to their skin and spreading into their organism, chasing down the infection yet again.
  231.
  232. The process was quite easy for him to replicate by now but nevertheless, he would pay attention to it, doing so carefully, not to aggravate the situation of the patients - they needed to die, that much he was aware of, and yet again, if Nerin was not here...
  233.
  234. They would be given a better Rebirth.
  235.
  236. Medicine was slowly killing the natural Cycle itself, as he can notice, but that is a subject he may plot against at a later date.
  237. (Lax)
  238.
  239. Whatever Lax's thoughts were on the matter, Nerin was the opposite. If anything, he really needed to get it done in order to make sure that he would grasp enough of the knowledge.. he imagines that he would need just one more practice after this, one related to biomods and changing the traits, so that he could assimilate it in accordance to the rest of the flesh.
  240.
  241. The minor traits which could actually mend the flesh together, as if it was back to its previous self.
  242.
  243. Without looking like it doesn't belong there, of course. He didn't need to make it seem as if the flesh was a foreign or alien one, and so long as he could help it, then he would keep on working - even until he drops breathless. There's no rest for the wicked, after all..
  244.
  245. "Almost done.."
  246.
  247. Patient after patient, the two of them continue working upon established formula; this also prompts Nerin to study more and more about biomods, learning how to adjust the parameters of vitality and strength that they all possess in their mana circuits, by default translating into power that should not persist in the non-magi..
  248.
  249. And yet, it does.
  250.
  251. It's almost as if they're uplifted to become something more. Then again, these enhancements? This is not something entirely new. The non-magi can already make use of different empowering things, and most certainly, this is just another way - but perhaps, one that won't require the machinery or other artificial things implanted.
  252.
  253. Something.. more natural.
  254.
  255. Eventually, with minutes upon minutes passing.. their work nears the end. The patients were put back on recovery, and while healthier than before - even with interjection of biomods and the curing effects of Biomancy, they'd still need rest.
  256.
  257. "..It's done."
  258.
  259. "Thank you for helping, Lax."
  260. (Nerin)
