  10. Deciphering Rin's paintings has become somewhat easier for me, though I still wouldn't call it "easy." Some of her paintings are difficult enough stump me for days, while I grasp other within moments. It's almost like a pastime we share, as she seems to find enjoyment in both painting the art and watching me stew over it.
  11.
  12. I've adapted a fairly calculated approach to reading Rin's pieces of art. I look at the objects in front of me, the background and other details, the colors, and then, most importantly, what I feel after looking at it. That last bit took a while to master, but after spending so much time with my beloved wife, it's becoming easier and easier.
  13.
  14. So, first, I'll look at the literal objects before me. Taking center stage are two people, conjoined at the leg, holding tools of some sort. I can only tell that they're tools by the way the two figures hold them; one striking an oddly shaped building, the other raising its tool to do the same. The heads on the people are oddly shaped, with many curvatures and points erected in every direction.
  15.
  16. Knowing Rin, these two figures are probably her and me. Most of my time out of the lab is spent here with her, and Rin... doesn't get out much, to be honest. I guess out legs are connected like we are, both by marriage and in mind. All of her paintings show us together now, which is a thankful change from the times when she would draw me in the distant background.
  17.
  18. The object they're building is a work in progress. It's difficult to make out what they're building. It looks like they're making abstract sculpture. There are a couple horn-like protrusions, as well as some rounded-off arcs that remind me of the coronal loops ejected from the sun's corona. Abstract art within abstract art... That's two deep in abstraction. I've barely jumped into one layer of oddity in Rin's art, and now she throws two at me?
  19.
  20. So... what are the colors I'm seeing the most of? There's a lot of flesh color and pink. Feminine pink. The kind of pink that usually shows up on the track suits of soccer moms. Rin isn't the type for that level of girlishness. She usually extends her androgyny into her paintings, yet the pink seems to force it's way in to this one.
  21.
  22.
  23. Now, the most important part... my reaction. How does this affect me? I look at the painting, and it brings back memories, but in an odd way. Usually, Rin's paintings are of past events, but this painting doesn't remind me of any one event in particular. Something that has yet to come? Something under way?
  24.
  25. The memories it brought back though... one stands out in particular. It's that of the first time Rin and I spent the night together. The rain tapping on the roof, her dripping wet in my doorway, and the wonderful act that followed soon after. I can still recall the cold of her skin contrasting the warmth of her breath. Our bodies pressing closer together as we begin to...
  26.
  27. Wait. That's it.
  28.
  29. Rin and I, the tools, the pink, the object; it all meshes together!
  30.
  31. That object they're building... it looks like a mix between Rin's and my heads!
  32.
  33. We're building another person!
  34.
  35. ...
  36.
  37. ...
  38.
  39. We're building another person?!
  40.
  41. My heart skips a beat.
  42.
  43. Maybe two.
  44.
  45. I look over to Rin. Her eyes droop lovingly as she notices my shocked expression. "Well? What is it?"
  46.
  47. Words aren't coming out. I look at her stomach and continue my silence. Reading about this is one thing, but experiencing it...
  48.
  49. I walk over to Rin and hold her closely to me. I forget about everything else. The only things in my life at this moment are Rin and I...
  50.
  51. Well... plus one.
  52.
  53. She closes her eyes as tears begin to stream on to my shoulder. Our happiness combined and redoubled, we both manage to mutter out a simple sentence which will now define us for the rest of out lives. .
  54.
  55. "We're parents."

  73. Meant to write this for a while, but this always seemed like a cliche topic to hit. Too late now.
  74. Beginning part... something describing their situation in some studio apartment near Hisao's lab/workplace. Honestly, there isn't that much buildup. I'm just tired. And lazy.
  75.
  76. Mostly lazy.
