The Missing Chao - Chapter 6

The shades of his eyelids opened and light poured in just like lemonade. He stared at the ceiling, blank and tan, and then rolled over towards the nearby window.

"The sun is setting," he crowed.

A vivid rainbow of orange, violet, and yellow splattered throughout the horizon just like drops of paint. The sun, now a red circle, tried to hide in the hills, though it was unsuccessful.

"Yeah, Shades," Blaze yawned and sat up on the couch.

"What about the dinner?" Rouge suggested.

Shadow, without responding, bolted out of the living room and into the kitchen. He opened the fridge, there were no food inside, not even a bone. The black hedgehog glumly stranded back into the living room.

"I packed every piece of treat I could find," he shook his head in despair. "I guess I was too excited."

"Don't worry," Blaze cuddled him, "we can eat the unnecessary ones."

"Good idea."

Silver levitated a pack of lean, juicy lamb chops from the pile, "I don't really want to think about eating cute sheep, maybe we could eat these right now?"

Floee, after digging for a while since foxes were born with the habit to dig, scooped up several bowls of beef soup. Blaze tugged out a plastic container with apple salad as Rouge revealed a bunch of spinach.

"Wonderful!" Shadow cried. However, before he could prepare the food, the doorbell rang like a wedding bell.

"Coming!"

He dashed towards the front door and pushed it. Standing there in the open darkness was his blue rival, Sonic.

"Wanna come to my house for dinner?"

"Yeah, just let my team grab their food items."

Shadow looked over his shoulder and announced, "Bring your dishes! We're coming over to Sonic's house for dinner!"

"Oh boy!" Silver squealed.

Like hyenas racing for a corpse, Team Emerald gathered the things they were about to eat and squeezed themselves out of the door. They turned left and strutted pass 2 houses. There, in front of them, was Sonic's 2-strong chestnut house.

"Team Emerald are about to join us for the supper tonight," Sonic yelled once he turned the cobalt knob and opened the brown front door.

"I wonder what they're up to," Knuckles retorted.

Sonic allowed himself to lead Shadow and his friends to the dining room. The rooms and hallways still had the same old possessions, same old scent. Images of Sonic in his younger ages spawned everywhere, whether he was hanging with his family whom he left, is friends, or just by himself. Spunky bright colored furniture were accompanied by the plain ones.

Finally, Team Emerald came upon Team Ring in the dining room. Various mouth-watering meals sat on the wooden table like stones on the road. A large bowl of macaroni, a plate of barbecue chicken wings, spaghetti, pork rib, a giant whole pepperoni pizza, and salad with "thousand island" dressing all waited for the hungry tongues.

As the steam flew towards the ceiling and stomachs rumbled, the 10 mammals licked their lips and began to scoop up the food and place them onto their plates. Blaze nibbled on her wings slowly since she was still a princess in her spirit, contrary to Floee who gobbled down one large slice of pizza rapidly.

Silver grabbed a can of soda with his mind and then dumped the liquid into the yellow plastic cup. Slurping followed after a lightning-speed nanosecond.

"Cheers!" the gang clanked their cups and took a teaspoon of the soft drink.

"This is as if the Holy Grail was sitting at the table currently," Shadow was over the moon.

"I have something weird to tell you," Sonic bit his lip, "I met your doppelganger, Sir Lancelot, in the universe of King Arthur."

"SO YOU'RE SAYING SIR LANCELOT LOOKS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO ME-" he then started to cough.

"Shadow!" Blaze shrieked. She rushed up to her cared lover.

After a minute of coughing, Shadow began to speak again, "Don't cry, I didn't choke or anything."

"I'm glad you're fine," the she-cat purred, "but now let's just eat."

The munching continued.

"I'm so stuffed," Tails groaned, "I'll rather go lay down on that couch in your living room."

"You may," Sonic approved.

Soon, the bowls and plates didn't carry anything in them, not even a crumble. However, the animals didn't want to leave Sonic's house.

"Okay," Sonic began the discussion, "what unique things did y'all pack?"

"I've decided to bring my solar charger," Silver replied, "so I could keep my phone charged. It's a handy map and compass."

Knuckles retorted once again, "Hey! We got an atlas and a REAL compass!"

"Technology still rules..."

Tails uttered, "We also have a camper's stove."

Blaze mewed, "In the wild, my team will chop firewood and I'll use my pyrokinesis. Who needs matches when you have a girl with fire powers?" She even lit a moderate flame on her palm.

"Exactly!" Shadow grinned.

"We also packed swimsuits," Amy smiled, "so we could go for a swim sometime."

"Same, except we didn't do so yet," Floee responded. "I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW OFF MY BIKINI!!!"

"Ew," Tails retorted.
