  1. FF3 PREVIEWS GUIDE
  2. HOW TO MAKE ‘EM
  3. Before anything, this applies to everything whether it is a portrait or a character in game model as long as you have the correct ACT at hand.
  4. 1) Open up Palmod. Look for the palette you want to make a preview of and save the ACT file. Pretty basic stuff.

  6.
  7. 2) Go to your FBA emulator and load the game. Set to Dev. mode by changing the region to 0x70 and open the developer’s menu by pressing Start + A + F2.
  8. Open up the object tab. https://i.imgur.com/9HFLGiz.png
  9.
  10. You will enter a blue screen with a green grid with two Jotaros standing next to each other and a ton of numbers and letters on the left side. https://i.imgur.com/lTPZ7kG.png
  11.
  12. 3) Using the directional buttons, look for the sprite you want to extract. In the case of the portraits they are 7 groups below Jotaro so you will have to press down or “2” 7 times until you reach a side of the char select manga.
  13. There a many chances that it will be completely black: like so https://i.imgur.com/punQs3v.png
  14. In those cases go back to the regular game menu, still on Dev mode, and play a couple of challenge matches. Once you played 2 or 4 ( maybe 1 is enough) go back to the object viewer and to the sprite you will extract.
  15.
  16. 4) Now look for the A palette of the sprite you want to extract by pressing “C” or heavy attack and then switching palettes by going to the sides with left and right or “6” and “4”.
  17.
  18. 5) This step used to be a pain in the butt before until I discovered that I could just remove sprite layers. This is when you extract the sprite. So the problem I used to have was: some sprites were too big and the letters on the sides and above would prevent me from just screenshotting the whole thing at once. In this case, Iggy is small enough for you to screencap him once. https://i.imgur.com/OYkV4EF.png
  19. So, if the sprite is too big just go to Video > Graphics layer and untick layer 2
  20. https://i.imgur.com/az06eCq.png
  21. The screen should look like this now https://i.imgur.com/Ap3SgL7.png
  22. Change the sprite’s place with the player 2 directional buttons a screencap that sucker.
  23.
  24. 6) Open up Paint.net or photoshop or whatever and get rid of the background. Save it
  25.
  26. 7) Now open up ff3, and load the ACT you had saved at the beginning.
  27.
  28. 8) Press Ctrl+A and open up the sprite without background. A window will show up https://i.imgur.com/RlaZXfv.png
  29. Open this slider. https://i.imgur.com/RBXma1g.png
  30. And select “Force the specified palette (adapt image)”
  31.
  32. 9) There you have it. Your own ff3 preview! You might want to change it’s size by going to the image editor built in ff3. If there are some issues with stuff being bound to things they aren’t supposed to be, just open the original image in your image editor of choice change the buggy stuff, upping or lowering their values by very small and unnoticeable amounts. IMPORTANT make sure those changes are done on the ACT as well so that no value in the palette is equal and it matches exactly that of the image.
  33.
  34. 10) Now save your progress by clicking on the “save sprites” button here: https://i.imgur.com/zacTzIt.png
