  9. Many miles away, behind great wall and bars of iron, a certain Spirit lay on a cot. Her skin was ashen, more so than usual, from the strain of staying so long outside of her domain. If not for her tie to a younger Togabito, the Sin of Pride would have perished weeks ago in this cell.
  10.
  11. She lay on a simple cot, wearing black robes of a Shinigami, though her Zanpakuto and the Requiem sword had been confiscated. She'd allowed that, of course. Just as she allowed herself to have been led to a prison cell, locked up by the Fourth Division, who handled miscellaneous tasks. She wasn't formally under arrest, not yet, and her appearance back in Soul Society had been witnessed by too many people to just execute her on sight. Nobody trusted her enough to allow her contact with her Division, who she had relatively good standing with due to her militaristic and strict orders that had drastically bolstered their strength. So, in a storage room converted to a cell, Kenpachi Azalea lay awake.
  12.
  13. She had been pending a formal hearing for her crimes. Some Shinigami had perished at her hands when it was revealed she was a Togabito. Which was another issue Soul Society had, that such a mighty Togabito had escaped Hell. But, more pressing and worrying for her, was that nobody was taking her insistence of an incoming invasion seriously.
  14.
  15. Suddenly, the ancient Spirit sat up in her cot. Somewhere, a battle was taking place. She just knew it. She felt waves of powerful energy being thrown around with urgency.
  16.
  17. Had the invasion began? Was Tanua, now, marching his vile forces on Soul Society? She ran across the room, gripping the bars of her prison, shouting for a guard, but nobody came. Tensing her muscles, she grimaced. She was near death as it was, her body mostly kept alive off what little Negative Reiatsu she could siphon from the link she'd established so long ago with the Togabito 'Cat'. But, she could not stand here and do nothing when the very forces of Hell marched on those she had once fought beside. She had to do something.
  18.
  19. With a heave, Azalea threw her body against the bars, deforming them before shoving her way through with her incredibly dense mass. As fast as she could manage- that is to say, faster than most Shinigami could comprehend- she ran to her weapons and pulled them into place on her body.
  20.
  21. The Zanpakuto and Requiem swords wore on her back, a bastard sword and broadsword, respectfully. The serrated blade of her Zanpakuto ran its entire length on both sides, and caught her hair. The faintly glowing Requiem sword was set under this, the Hell-forged crystal blade depicting slowly moving skulls and twisting faces on its red surface.
  22.
  23. She ran. Her feet pounded the ground, splintering stone tiles and leaving several inch depressions.
  24.
  25. Left. Right. Turn, down this alley. Through that one. Across the streets, around the many twists and turns of Seireitei. It was only a breath of time before she was throwing her body against the doors to escape Seireitei, sending the poor guardman flying, the door splintering into tiny fragments. She took the most direct path through the Rukongai. She had learned not to trust the buildings here to support her weight, instead sacrificing her spiritual energy to create stable footing in the air.
  26.
  27. As she ran, Azalea pulled her Zanpakuto from it's place. She knew not what enemy she would face, but she needed all the power she could scrap together. She didn't want to use her Zanpakuto. She'd used and subjugated Saishū-tekina puraido while in Hell, but here in Soul Society, it just seemed wrong to her, after what she'd done last time here. Shaking her head, she returned the weapon to her back.
  28.
  29. She was closing in on the site. She could see the faintly glowing barrier in the distance. She closed her eyes, exerting her will over her own biology. She froze in place, a golden fluid surging from her pores. It encased her in a sphere, floating in the air, and she felt as if eons were passing. Her perception of time was heightened considerably. In the span of six seconds, she felt as if several eons had passed in a soundless, light-less, sensation-less void. But then her time ended and the golden egg erupted with a golden armored Kenpachi shooting herself at the barrier. With a slash of a golden sword in her hand, materialized from the liquid she called Ascension that flowed from her pores, a black flame corroded the barrier briefly and she landed heavily near the center of the cordoned off location, on her knees with her sword stabbed into the ground.
  30.
  31. She stood slowly, realizing the situation with a glance. She was armored in a way reminiscent of medieval knights, with a visored helmet that covered her head save for her one good eye. The two swords on her back contrasted greatly with what could be described as a saintly knight, wielding a long golden katana in her hand. The ground below her was unstable, and she quickly created a golden pool of Ascension below her to avoid sinking in the lava.
  32.
  33. She took in the Hollow, the Captains. One, his back on the fight. The other, in mid-leap in an attempt to kill the creature. And, for some curious reason, she noted a complete lack of air in the area.
  34.
  35. It seemed... she had drastically over-reacted.
