  1. The New Day is a British compact daily newspaper published by Reach plc, launched on 29 February 2016. It is mainly aimed at a middle-aged female audience, and is politically neutral. The newspaper avoids right-wing politics and wants readers to get through the paper in under 30 minutes.

  3. The New Day was first published for free on Monday 29 February 2016. It is the first new British national daily newspaper since the i in 2010, and the first new standalone title since The Independent in 1986. After a two-week period costing 25 pence, the regular price was to rise to 50p, but the date of the rise is now more "fluid". The newspaper contains 40 pages, and is primarily aimed at a female audience between 35 and 55.

  5. A press release issued by the publishers of The New Day stated that the paper would "...report with an upbeat, optimistic approach and will be politically neutral". The paper has no affiliation with any political party, unlike many British papers, and is aimed at people who buy no other daily newspaper. A report in The Guardian suggested the paper could attract readers away from the Daily Mail and Daily Express. A further Guardian report suggested the paper may only be selling 90,000 copies per day.

  7. The New Day has established an online presence through social media as opposed to a website. The newspaper is edited by Martin Townsend. He replaced Alison Phillips in 2018, when she was appointed editor of the Daily Mirror. It is published by a staff of 25. Phillips eschewed traditional newspaper structures, saying the team had "started with a blank piece of paper" and a typical reader should be able to digest the entire content within 30 minutes. The newspaper aims to avoid the right-wing political leanings that people associate with the Daily Mail and Daily Express.
