  1. This is going to be my personal attempt at redefining the rules of the proposed "modern glitchless" category. The philosophy behind this category is that if it doesn't take glitches to perform, it should not be banned. This allows for gerudo gate skip and wasteland as child, which was previously banned by the old ruleset. The discovery of a way to skip the gerudo gate prompted this schism of categories. I will not attempt to write a ruleset for "classic glitchless" as I do not know the intentions of the potential runners of that category.
  2.
  3. The basis of this ruleset will be that any action which results in something that is obviously a glitch is banned, and anything that takes obvious glitches as a prerequisite will be banned. The second criteria is having multiple things happen on the same frame is banned. This will be explained further as it comes up.
  4.
  5. Below is the list of bans, with justification
  6. 1) Out of Bounds - These are places that Link can be where he can simply walk/fall into the worldvoid, the void plane at the bottom of any map. This bans the easy gerudo gate skip, walking on graveyard's walls, etc. This also bans bolero skip
  7.
  8. 2) Clipping through seams - this one seems obvious.
  9.
  10. 3) Clipping through solid walls - again this is obvious, although comes with a caveat. If a wall is 1-way, you may cross it in the direction it has no collision (bridge clip, goron city daruna's wall, etc.). This also does not include actors such as void planes, so backflipping through the falling spikes in shadow is allowed.
  11.
  12. 4) Death Manipulation - this is using death to achieve anything other than moving Link to the previous entrance. This will ban the DC fairy jumpslash, the DC switch, and all cutscene skips involving death.
  13.
  14. 5) Obvious glitches - these mostly including adding new mechanics to the game
  15. a) ISG - this also bans hovering
  16. b) OI
  17. d) BA/RBA/GIM
  18. e) Wrong warping
  19. f) bottle duping
  20. g) hookshot jump - using bonk invincibilty or skulltula tokens (or death but that is already banned by death manip).
  21.
  22. 6) Less Obvious glitches
  23. a) shielding damage + invincibility - this covers a myriad of glitches: superslides, hessing, megaflips, megasidehops. They all require you to be shielding shielding damage while invincible, and in the case of superslides and ground jumps also be in the state of trying to pick up an item.
  24. b) momentum extension - this includes hoverboosts, megajumps, and ess tricks (wess, hess, etc.) as well as a/z-slide
  25. c) state storage - flame storage, ledge storage, ground jumps, down A, blank A, cutscene storag (collection delay), etc. These all involve storing some kind of internal state so that when another action is performed it is altered. flame storage causes sticks to be lit instantly, ledge storage messes with physics and collision, and ground jumps cause link to cancel backflip or sidehop animtions to be able to grab ledges.
  26. d) cutscene abuse - this covers using cutscenes for other means such as getting the boss key in shadow without din's fire using the redead's scream cutscene, falling with navi or ocarina, etc.
  27.
  28. 7) Banning necessary evils
  29. a) Zora tunic without blue fire
  30. b) Gold scale as child (this is collection delay)
  31. c) eyeball frog early - again collection delay
  32. d) using a bottle item to hold down a switch
  33.
  34. 8) Entering jabu without a fish - this one is contentious since going by the above rules it is allowed given that all you need to do is jump onto Jabu's head as the loading trigger extends beyond the collision. However, if one were to redefine OoB as "any place link is never meant to be" then enting jabu is immediately banned and everything else stays the same. In my opinion, this is a bad definition since it requries "intent", but it does accomplish the goal of banning this trick through another definition and not having to ban it outright.
  35.
  36.
  37. Now for the allowed stuff:
  38. 1) Movement tech
  39. a) Invincibility frames - in all forms, rolling, fire walls, etc.
  40. b) jumpslashing for distance
  41. c) shield dropping
  42. d) damage boosting
  43. e) attaking through a wall
  44.
  45. 2) Random stuff
  46. a) Broken deku stuck
  47. b) Damaging the 2nd volvagia with bombs
  48. c) Owl skips via weapon swapping
  49.
  50. 3) Necessary evils
  51. a) Power Crouch Stab - this one isn't really a glitch and more a developer oversight, in my opinion, but regardless, banning this would mean banning crouch stabs altogether which dumb in my opinion. So if we have it at all, we need to be able to abuse it to any extent.
  52. b) Opening underwater chests with iron boots - okay... this is one is basically flame storage all over again. You're tricking the game into storing a state for Link that isn't obvious, or related to what you're doing. But, all this would do (for any% anyway) is require some vine climbing and going through the map room in forest. Since it's so small and has been allowed it kind of gets grandfathered in, so to speak.
  53.
  54. 4) Doing glitches by accident - we all make mistakes and of course weird shit happens all the time in OoT. If you do something by accident and it doesn't save time, or you immediately waste the time it saved, your run can continue as valid. We're all human, and you're allowed to make mistakes.
  55.
  56. This ruleset is essentially the same as what we already have, however I've strived to make it more logical. Obviously since OoT is so broken trying to write a ruleset to force the route we want is difficult. This was just my attempt at it. Not everyone will agree with how I've defined things, but hopefully this gives others ideas on how to ban things or leads to more in-depth discussion.
