- Weichensi 4K Touch (non battery) Review at www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001288096313.html
- • Highlights
- ○ Paid £194 + £30 FedEx tax.
- ○ Nice build quality and fast FedEx delivery (I selected AliExpress Standard but it was sent via FedEx due to possible shipping delays)
- ○ Colours are correct, super vivid and the screen is super detailed. Low backlight bleed [image 5]
- ○ With a tweak with the EQ software "Peace", the audio is above my expectations.
- ○ Screen only uses 7W on average and the backlight has 99 different levels to get the perfect amount of emitted light for comfortable viewing.
- - Defaults to 10% brightness to prevent hurting your eyes when you power on the screen, which I really appreciate.
- ○ I recommend to ask the seller about the promo video and OSD video, or for the seller to add it to the product page.
- ○ This works with my Fasgear 3m right angle USB-C cable for a nice tablet experience. The USB-C keeps itself nice and locked in.
- • Touchscreen
- ○ It's likely something to do with Windows 10 because scrolling is fine if using the on screen touchpad, but ideally I would like it to be a tad more sensitive, or have lower surface friction.
- ○ Sometimes might become a mouse. A quick unplug and replug fixes it. Not sure if it's a Windows issue or the USB C port on my laptop.
- ○ I asked if they had screen protectors but apparently the screen is tempered glass, so there's not much point putting another layer on top. This also explains why the glass looks a bit like one is already applied.
- • Speakers
- ○ Passed expectations as better than what you'd find in an android tablet, though do remember that these are still small speakers that can't really move a lot of air for the lows.
- ○ Put in a much better location than other usbc screens that put the speakers on the back. These speakers are on the top-sides meaning that sound isn't blocked by hands or a surface on the back of the screen.
- ○ Distorts at high volume but an EQ that boosts 60Hz +5dB and reduces 3.6kHz -7dB [image 1] really helps with sound quality.
- • Resolution and colour
- ○ Super crisp and very vivid. Similar but not identical colours are more noticeable now, so you may notice video compression (like YouTube)
- ○ On windows I'm usually using 150% scaling, with 125% when I want extra real estate and 175% sometime when using as a tablet or watching videos. It would be amazing if there was a 17 inch version of this so that I could use 125% regularly.
- ○ I do like how white default looks plain white. Not slightly reddish or green or blue. It's a neutral white.
- • Brightness and OSD
- ○ Really like the touch interface and love how the backlight has 99 possible values so you can always find the perfect brightness for your environment.
- ○ This gets really bright for daylight use and really dark (which is more important, especially for indoor use) at night.
- ○ The brightness (and volume) doesn't save when you remove power, but I love that the default is 10% and not something like 50% that a lot of other screens flash grenade me with.
- ○ The only thing I would like changed is to change the "No Display" screen to a black background instead of the blue background.
- • Dimensions and ports
- ○ There's 2 inaccuracies between the product and the description, and for once it's a good thing!
- ○ The first is that the bezel, measured by digital callipers, is 6.4mm instead of 4mm. That extra 2mm does come in handy when using it like a tablet screen.
- - The thin bezels make the 30mm chin look very large in comparison though.
- - The completely black front of uninterrupted glass and aluminium rim really make the screen look high quality and modern when turned off.
- ○ The second is that both usb c ports are fully featured and you can send video through both.
- - The product page says that 1 usb c port is for power and 1 is for video, which matches up with the labels on the back of the screen, but I can send video through the "power" usb-c port just fine.
- - I haven't tested Power Delivery though, so that might still only work through the "power" port.
- - The OSD has the option for Type-C 1, Type-C 2 and HDMI.
- ○ Also nice to see a full sized HDMI port instead of mini HDMI on others.
- ○ A USB 3.0 port has been used but the instructions say it's 2.0.
- - Even if it was 3.0, you'd need Thunderbolt 3 as sending 4K 60Hz will mean there's only enough remaining bandwidth for 2.0 speeds.
- - Windows does allow 30Hz refresh which should theoretically allow 3.0 speeds.
- ○ I really like the full size usb port as it means I can directly plug in mice, use those mini receivers or use my USB headphones without large OTG dongles.
- • Power, heat and build quality
- ○ Uses 2.2A at 80% brightness without the speakers on, so I'd assume it'll use closer to 3A at 100% brightness and 100% speakers.
- - Minimum consumption is 0.96A.
- - I use 30% brightness usually, so average consumption is 1.4A, or 7W of power.
- ○ Weight is 830g and I find it comfortable to hold like a tablet.
- ○ The entire back aluminium gets uniformly warm when using close to 100%. It feels perhaps 2-4C higher than body temp so still comfortable to use. I usually use 30% brightness and it's cool to the touch
- ○ When on a table, I can see that the screen is slightly warped by about 1mm, but it's not something I notice when using the screen or feel when holding it.
- ○ Screen goes right to the edge of the bezels, and there is no distinguishable gap between the top glass and the screen.
- ○ Also the backlight bleed is relatively low in the league of IPS displays. It's mainly leak from the chin.
- ○ I do hear trace amounts of coil whine but my laptop fans overpower them anyways and I've got to move within 10cm to properly hear it.
- • Accessories
- ○ The included cover is very low quality. It's barely magnetic towards the screen and doesn't have a clasp so doesn't stay shut.
- ○ They do include a very useful folding stand though for holding the screen up and I much prefer using it.
- ○ Asked for a UK plug and they sent me a 5V3A USB-A adapter
- ○ Also came with a full USB-C->C, HDMI and USB-A->C cables. No OTG adapter or remote if you were wondering.
- • Delivery
- ○ So I looked at other reviews and understood that the seller was going to send via DHL/FedEx when selecting free delivery. Tax was £65 but seller paid £35 towards it. Delivery to UK in 7 days via FedEx.
