  1. >The next week or so is one of many discoveries and breakthroughs, both for you and Celestia
  2. >Celestia has made good of her promise, and had produced a trans-dimensional dragon flame for you
  3. >Like the flame that Spike produces to send letters, this will send a letter to who you tell it too
  4. >Unfortunately, she only had enough power to create one, so you will have to use it wisely
  5. >You sit in front of your desk, the flame flickering in its jar, eager to escape its prison, and this world
  6. >And you are currently drawing a blank on what to write on the parchment in front of you
  7. >Who should you write too? What should you write?
  8. >You certainly don't think anyone will believe you if you write you are an alien in a world full of pastel equines and are being held for study by the God-Empress of Ponykind
  9. >You sigh in frustration, trying to think of an excuse for your sudden disappearance
  10.
  11. >In a flash of brilliance, you come up with something
  12. >You write you were going to do some volunteer work overseas, and your dedication has been recognized by the Red Cross
  13. >They've invited you to stay there for an indefinite amount of time, and you don't know when you'll come back, if ever
  14. >You write that you are doing fine, and are taken care of by the natives and by the organization
  15. >You add not to bother writing back, since mail really isn't that common here, and that you might occasionally write to them when you have the time
  16. >You ask that they inform your friends so that they don't worry about you either
  17. >You know that it might be hard to swallow, but you feel content with what you wrote
  18. >They might wonder why its in ink too, but they might just be happy to finally hear from you
  19. >You roll up the scroll carefully, and then open the bottle
  20. >You ask it to send the letter to your mother, and it leaps from the bottle, both the flame and letter quickly disappearing
  21. >You sit back, nodding
  22. >With that loose end tied up in a somewhat decent matter, you begin to make a breakthrough of your own
  23.
  24. >Celestia was undoubtedly generous in her loaning of magic theory texts
  25. >Many books were given to you by her, all by renowned authors, all with interesting views
  26. >Some of them were even theorizing on the magics of Celestia and her sister herself
  27. >Some of the data conflicted with others, and some matched up
  28. >But there was a single common idea that persisted
  29. >The idea of background magic
  30. >All ponies are connected to it, but all use it in a different way
  31. >Earth ponies and Pegasus use it passively, utilizing background magic to make the earth fertile and control the weather, respectively
  32. >Unicorns and alicorns use it actively, using their horns as conduits to gather up the background magic into condensed quantities, and preform magical feats with it
  33. >When a very large and powerful spell is cast, usually there is some bits of residual condensed magic left
  34. >Unicorns and alicorns are also generally smarter because of the residual magic build up in the base of the horn, enhancing brainpower and memory
  35. >A book theorized that enough of this residual magic could allow an Earth Pony or a Pegasus to use the same magic of unicorns, but it would take an immense spell to produce just enough
  36. >And then you realize something
  37.
  38. >Most of these books were penned by unicorns, who used magic to write on the pages
  39. >Plus, the spell to summon you, cast by Celestia herself, must have doused the room in residual magic
  40. >All this time, between the books you've read to the time you've spent, you've been absorbing it, and it's going right to your head
  41. >Your mind is a literal supercomputer, you figure, able to recount anything you've read or seen perfectly
  42. >You ponder on the ramifications of this
  43. >What happens when there's too much of this stuff in your head? Will it explode, or something?
  44. >Will you be able to use magic? Probably not; You'd still need a powerful conduit like a unicorn horn
  45. >You try not to think too hard about it and resolve to ask Celestia
  46. >She might know what to do
  47.
  48. >Celestia arrives one day when the sky darkens and Luna takes court, and takes her usual pillow and sits down
  49. >Featherduster already dropped off the food before her; she had a date tonight and she wouldn't miss it for the world
  50. >The lamp is burning brightly on the desk, and you are pacing muttering to yourself
  51. >You hardly hear Celestia come in until she calls your name
  52. >'Anonymous? Are you alright?'
  53. >You look up, blinking
  54. 'Hm, oh, yes. Sorry, I just. . .I've got a lot on my mind. And in my mind. But you know that already.'
  55. >She smiles. Good thing you haven't lost your sense of humor
  56. 'I have something I want to ask, but ladies first. I will answer any questions you have for me.'
  57.
  58. >The session begins like it usually does, the two of you exchanging anything interesting that happened during the day
  59. >She's been asking a lot of hard questions lately. The meaning of life, if there is life after death in your world, how your world handles death, the concept of immortality . . .
  60. >All very philosophical, all very tough to answer, but you manage, and she nods knowingly
  61. >'Now, I think that's enough. What was your question, then?'
  62. >You sigh
  63. 'Well, I've read the magic theory books, and. . .turns out there's something about residual magic. You know about that, right?'
  64. >She nods
  65. 'By virtue of just staying here, and by reading the books, I've been absorbing it all. That's why I've been able to recall everything perfectly, to answer your hard questions.'
  66. >She looks worried, but you assure her with your next statement
  67. 'I've told you about equilibrium, right? All things want to be equal? In my world, there is no magic. And by coming to this world, as a non-magic entity, I've been absorbing magic to be equal to the magic in this world.'
  68. >'That makes sense. But when is your, ah, equilibrium point?
  69. >You blink.
  70. 'I'm. . .not quite sure. Since you are the most magical creature around me, I may be on par with your level of magic once I'm done.'
  71. >She looks at you with a somewhat spiteful, but curious look
  72. >'And what will you do if you do?'
  73. >You bite your lip. You'll need to do some fast talking.
  74.
  75. 'I don't know. What I know I will not do, is threaten your place as the ruler of this land. You are a kind, just, and very beautiful ruler, Celestia. I've told you what people in positions of such great power do in my world. I'm not fit for it. Even if I do gain as much magical energy as you, I have no conduit to utilize it. Worst I could do is recite the Codex of Equestria verbatim. That might what, put you to sleep?'
  76. >She giggles at your last comment, the faintest hint of a blush on her face
  77. >You wait for a moment before continuing. Pause for dramatic effect and all that.
  78. 'If I do become as powerful as you, and if I find a conduit, I would never dream of challenging you. I want you to see me as an maybe hardly sorta kinda an equal, not a threat.'
  79. >She seems satisfied with your answer, and stands, walking close to you.
  80. >'You are a very smart human. I knew I had gotten a good one.'
  81. >She lays her head on your shoulder, her wings wrapping around you
  82. >'And for the record, you aren't that bad looking yourself. . .'
  83. 'Your majesty, are you trying to seduce me?'
  84. >The two of you chuckle as you bring your arms around her neck, embracing her lightly
  85. >Hugging her is like sunbathing on a mild day, as a soothing warmth fills your body
  86.
  87. >'I'm raising a bit of suspicion by making such requests of the Archives as it is, but if I can, I will get you some very complex and rare books.' She whispers
  88. 'I would like that. Not as much as spending time with you, of course.'
  89. >She giggles and the two of you break the embrace
  90. >She turns and levitates the remains of your dinner and throws the pillow back on the bed
  91. >'I will see you tomorrow. I might have a book for you then, but even if I don't, I would like to talk to you.
  92. >She says with that ever so playful smirk
  93. 'Sounds good. But hey, the pants stay on, alright?'
  94. >She laughs as she exits the room, leaving you to yourself
  95. >You extinguish the lantern and strip to your undies, flopping down on the bed
  96. >You feel, for the first time in a while, genuinely happy
  97. >To feel the embrace of Celestia, to know why your mind burns with knowledge, to write one least time to your family
  98. >You've made much progress, but the true test begins here
  99. >Soon, when Celestia trusts you enough, you will be released from here
  100. >And then you can enjoy Equestria in all it's glory
  101. >But for now, you sleep, peacefully and happily
