- <icey123456> thanks
- <Vulpine> Sure thing. Just keep in mind that it is rather limited.
- <icey123456> still better than nothing
- <icey123456> so unix is just an operating system command language correct?
- <Vulpine> It's a completely different OS.
- <icey123456> ok. so how would i view the directory this whole mission is revolving around?
- <icey123456> or is that too much to ask?
- <sanddbawks> well
- <sanddbawks> first you need to open command prompt
- * Omni_present_ (catita@HTS-A8B5798.dsl.telepac.pt) has joined #help
- <sanddbawks> and type ipconfig /release to get into unix mode
- <sanddbawks> then
- <icey123456> k
- <sanddbawks> you just need to use a combination of mkdir and ls
- <icey123456> it says the operation requires elevation
- <sanddbawks> hmm
- <sanddbawks> oh
- <sanddbawks> are you in xp or 7
- <icey123456> vista
- <sanddbawks> okay
- <sanddbawks> we need to shutdown the anti-elevation mechanism to get into unix mode
- <sanddbawks> so first
- <sanddbawks> let me think
- <sanddbawks> okay
- <sanddbawks> it should be
- <icey123456> k
- <sanddbawks> 'shutdown /s' (no quotes of course)
- <sanddbawks> afterwards
- <sanddbawks> it will pop the box up
- <sanddbawks> asking which mode to go in
- <sanddbawks> type in UNIX (caps)
- <sanddbawks> and press enter
- <sanddbawks> then you're good to go
- <icey123456> k cool
- * icey123456 (icey123456@HTS-B40A219A.swnebr.net) Quit (Broken pipe)

- <sanddbawks> HAHAHHAHAH
- <sanddbawks> OMG HE DID IT
- <sanddbawks> ROFLMAO
- <sanddbawks> damn
- <sanddbawks> if he was administrator
- <sanddbawks> i would have had him format his C: drive
- <FlyingWatermelon> so where did he type in shutdown /s?
- <sanddbawks> cmd prompt
- <sanddbawks> can't believe he fell for it
- <sanddbawks> xD
- <FlyingWatermelon> haha

- <sanddbawks> yeah
- <sanddbawks> oh, shit
- <sanddbawks> there's one more step
- <sanddbawks> hold on
- <icey123456> !help basic 7
- <&moo> No pipes, but you're separating commands, once you have the file, go to it

- <icey123456> can anyone elaborate how i get to the directory in basic 7?
- <FlyingWatermelon> did you open command prompt yet?
- <icey123456> yes i have it up
- <FlyingWatermelon> did you do ip config /release?
- <icey123456> i will try it once more what spaces should i take out of what you typed?
- <sanddbawks> ipconfig /release
- <FlyingWatermelon> ^right
- <icey123456> k thanks
- <sanddbawks> if it doesn't work, try the shutdown /s again
- <icey123456> operation requires elevation
- <FlyingWatermelon> yeah...if anti-elevation is on
- <sanddbawks> try the shutdown again
- <sanddbawks> this time your computer should stay on
- <icey123456> all that shutdown /s did was shutdown my comp nothing different
- <icey123456> oh ok
- * sanddbawks (sanddbox@the.page.table) Quit (Input/output error)
- <FlyingWatermelon> hahaha
- <icey123456> windows will shut down in less than one minute
- <icey123456> cool
- <FlyingWatermelon> where did he go?
- <FlyingWatermelon> sanddbawks?
- <icey123456> he quit

- <FlyingWatermelon> hey
- <FlyingWatermelon> are you the system admin?
- <FlyingWatermelon> icey?
- <icey123456> no
- <FlyingWatermelon> oh cause thats why it wasnt working
- <icey123456> im just a n00b trying to learn how to do things
- <FlyingWatermelon> you need to be admin to get around elevation
- <icey123456> ooooh wait
- <icey123456> i am. i actually have problems with this kind of often
- * FunctionCreep (JBouncer@HTS-91D43486.home.otenet.gr) has joined #help
- <FunctionCreep> soo :P
- <FlyingWatermelon> function
- <FlyingWatermelon> do you remember how you did basic 7?
- <FlyingWatermelon> we already did ipconfig /release
- <FlyingWatermelon> then it said operation requires elevation
- <FlyingWatermelon> so we did shutdown /s
- <FunctionCreep> aha
- <FlyingWatermelon> and now he is system admin
- <FunctionCreep> very nice
- <FunctionCreep> well maybe a cd /
- <FlyingWatermelon> the problem was he had to click stuff and run as admin
- <FunctionCreep> and a sudo rm -rf would be the best thing to do now
- <FlyingWatermelon> i think he is on vista correct icey?
- <icey123456> yup
- <FunctionCreep> ohh that's unfortunate
- <icey123456> yeah it came prebooted into my comp
- <FlyingWatermelon> yeah sandbawks was trying to get him in UNIX mode thats why we did ipconfig /release in the first place
- <FunctionCreep> you mean pre-installed
- <icey123456> yeah
- <FunctionCreep> so did you try opening up the command line and doing ipconfig /release?
- <icey123456> i havent since running as admin
- <FunctionCreep> so are you connecting to the net with wire or not?
- * icey123456 (icey123456@HTS-B40A219A.swnebr.net) Quit (Ping timeout)

- * Vinlaell (vinlaell@HTS-832F88AF.sip.jax.bellsouth.net) has joined #help
- <FunctionCreep> well since you got disconnected from your neighbour's wireless router you will need to ipconfig /release again to gain admin privileges

- <FunctionCreep> and he can now play with the system
- <FunctionCreep> so how about a shutdown /s ?
- <FunctionCreep> if he gets back on eventually :P

- <icey123456> ok hopefully that was the last time that shits gonna happen
- <FunctionCreep> what's happening?
- <icey123456> got booted from the neighbors internet again
- <icey123456> i usually leave it running days at a time with no problems
- <FunctionCreep> again?does your house have very thick walls?
- <icey123456> eh regardless
- <icey123456> to elaborate my situation, im trying to complete basic 7
- <icey123456> and i was trying to view the directory the password is hidden in
- <icey123456> but i dont really know how to do that
- <Vinlaell> you can increase the signal by over 50% if you tape aluminum foil all around the wall in the room your wifi devidce is in, it doesnt have to fill up a whole wall, but atleast 4 square feet or morre
- <icey123456> i will keep that in mind
- <icey123456> im doing everything with a laptop cus im usually on the go
- <FunctionCreep> or you could at least tape aluminum foil all over your window since thats the place the signal gets in! (if you are near a window that is)
- * Armageddon (Seran@HTS-25109B5C.rivrw6.nsw.optusnet.com.au) Quit (Quit: shadow.ambernova.net <--- Connect to my server via port 6668 and you win The Game!)
- <icey123456> but yeah thats the situation, just trying to figure out how to do what i think i need to do
- <icey123456> thanks for the tip!
- <FlyingWatermelon> i actually have aluminum taped to my laptop
- <FlyingWatermelon> i dont worry about the walls
- <Vinlaell> wow i'ma try that on mine
- <FlyingWatermelon> once the signal gets in it comes right to my laptop
- <icey123456> i currently dont have aluminum but ill probably figure something out about it tomorrow
- <FunctionCreep> ok let me have a look on basic 7, it's been some time since i've done it
- <icey123456> can do
- <FunctionCreep> ok the easy way to do this is to shutdown the remote machine<FunctionCreep> since you have admin access
- <FlyingWatermelon> we tried shutdown /s
- <FlyingWatermelon> maybe it will work this time?
- <FlyingWatermelon> it works for me
- <FunctionCreep> or shutdown /r could work aswell
- <icey123456> so try shutdown /s? or r?
- <FunctionCreep> shutdown /r is better

- <icey123456> yes
- <FlyingWatermelon> so probably not
- <FunctionCreep> no not again no need for that again
- <icey123456> ok cool good awesome
- * mischief is now known as HTSUser20859
- <FunctionCreep> ok once that procedure is done let me know if that worked
- <icey123456> so shutdown /r and for educational purposes what is that going to allow me to do if it works?
- <FlyingWatermelon> well, we were trying to get you to UNIX mode
- <FunctionCreep> to shutdown the remote machine
- <icey123456> ok thats what i thought
- <FunctionCreep> since this is a game it will restart on it's own
- <icey123456> and i am supposed to enter this into my regular command prompt correct?
- <icey123456> i just dont want to mess up
- <FlyingWatermelon> right
- <FunctionCreep> yep exactly
- <icey123456> k cool brb
- <FunctionCreep> exactly the same place you entered ipconfig /release
- <icey123456> windows will shut down in less than one minute
- <FlyingWatermelon> hmm
- <icey123456> brb
- * icey123456 (icey123456@HTS-B40A219A.swnebr.net) Quit (Connection reset by peer)
