  1. <icey123456> thanks
  2. <Vulpine> Sure thing. Just keep in mind that it is rather limited.
  3. <icey123456> still better than nothing
  4. <icey123456> so unix is just an operating system command language correct?
  5. <Vulpine> It's a completely different OS.
  6. <icey123456> ok. so how would i view the directory this whole mission is revolving around?
  7. <icey123456> or is that too much to ask?
  8. <sanddbawks> well
  9. <sanddbawks> first you need to open command prompt
  10. * Omni_present_ (catita@HTS-A8B5798.dsl.telepac.pt) has joined #help
  11. <sanddbawks> and type ipconfig /release to get into unix mode
  12. <sanddbawks> then
  13. <icey123456> k
  14. <sanddbawks> you just need to use a combination of mkdir and ls
  15. <icey123456> it says the operation requires elevation
  16. <sanddbawks> hmm
  17. <sanddbawks> oh
  18. <sanddbawks> are you in xp or 7
  19. <icey123456> vista
  20. <sanddbawks> okay
  21. <sanddbawks> we need to shutdown the anti-elevation mechanism to get into unix mode
  22. <sanddbawks> so first
  23. <sanddbawks> let me think
  24. <sanddbawks> okay
  25. <sanddbawks> it should be
  26. <icey123456> k
  27. <sanddbawks> 'shutdown /s' (no quotes of course)
  28. <sanddbawks> afterwards
  29. <sanddbawks> it will pop the box up
  30. <sanddbawks> asking which mode to go in
  31. <sanddbawks> type in UNIX (caps)
  32. <sanddbawks> and press enter
  33. <sanddbawks> then you're good to go
  34. <icey123456> k cool
  35. * icey123456 (icey123456@HTS-B40A219A.swnebr.net) Quit (Broken pipe)
  36. <Vulpine> Hehehe... You're just really bored, aren't you?
  37. <sanddbawks> LOL
  38. <sanddbawks> HAHAHHAHAH
  39. <sanddbawks> OMG HE DID IT
  40. <sanddbawks> ROFLMAO
  41. <sanddbawks> damn
  42. <sanddbawks> if he was administrator
  43. <sanddbawks> i would have had him format his C: drive
  44. <FlyingWatermelon> so where did he type in shutdown /s?
  45. <sanddbawks> cmd prompt
  46. <sanddbawks> can't believe he fell for it
  47. <sanddbawks> xD
  48. <FlyingWatermelon> haha

  53. <sanddbawks> yeah
  54. <sanddbawks> oh, shit

  56. <sanddbawks> hold on
  57. <icey123456> !help basic 7
  58. <&moo> No pipes, but you're separating commands, once you have the file, go to it

  70. <FlyingWatermelon> did you do ip config /release?
  71. <icey123456> i will try it once more what spaces should i take out of what you typed?
  72. <sanddbawks> ipconfig /release
  73. <FlyingWatermelon> ^right
  74. <icey123456> k thanks
  75. <sanddbawks> if it doesn't work, try the shutdown /s again
  76. <icey123456> operation requires elevation
  77. <FlyingWatermelon> yeah...if anti-elevation is on
  78. <sanddbawks> try the shutdown again
  79. <sanddbawks> this time your computer should stay on
  80. <icey123456> all that shutdown /s did was shutdown my comp nothing different
  81. <icey123456> oh ok
  82. * sanddbawks (sanddbox@the.page.table) Quit (Input/output error)
  83. <FlyingWatermelon> hahaha
  84. <icey123456> windows will shut down in less than one minute
  85. <icey123456> cool
  86. <FlyingWatermelon> where did he go?
  87. <FlyingWatermelon> sanddbawks?

  102. <FlyingWatermelon> oh cause thats why it wasnt working
  103. <icey123456> im just a n00b trying to learn how to do things
  104. <FlyingWatermelon> you need to be admin to get around elevation

  110. <FlyingWatermelon> do you remember how you did basic 7?
  111. <FlyingWatermelon> we already did ipconfig /release
  112. <FlyingWatermelon> then it said operation requires elevation
  113. <FlyingWatermelon> so we did shutdown /s
  114. <FunctionCreep> aha
  115. <FlyingWatermelon> and now he is system admin
  116. <FunctionCreep> very nice
  117. <FunctionCreep> well maybe a cd /
  118. <FlyingWatermelon> the problem was he had to click stuff and run as admin
  119. <FunctionCreep> and a sudo rm -rf would be the best thing to do now
  120. <FlyingWatermelon> i think he is on vista correct icey?
  121. <icey123456> yup
  122. <FunctionCreep> ohh that's unfortunate
  123. <icey123456> yeah it came prebooted into my comp
  124. <FlyingWatermelon> yeah sandbawks was trying to get him in UNIX mode thats why we did ipconfig /release in the first place
  125. <FunctionCreep> you mean pre-installed
  126. <icey123456> yeah
  127. <FunctionCreep> so did you try opening up the command line and doing ipconfig /release?
  128. <icey123456> i havent since running as admin

  164. <FunctionCreep> again?does your house have very thick walls?
  165. <icey123456> eh regardless
  166. <icey123456> to elaborate my situation, im trying to complete basic 7
  167. <icey123456> and i was trying to view the directory the password is hidden in
  168. <icey123456> but i dont really know how to do that
  169. <Vinlaell> you can increase the signal by over 50% if you tape aluminum foil all around the wall in the room your wifi devidce is in, it doesnt have to fill up a whole wall, but atleast 4 square feet or morre
  170. <icey123456> i will keep that in mind
  171. <icey123456> im doing everything with a laptop cus im usually on the go
  172. <FunctionCreep> or you could at least tape aluminum foil all over your window since thats the place the signal gets in! (if you are near a window that is)
  173. * Armageddon (Seran@HTS-25109B5C.rivrw6.nsw.optusnet.com.au) Quit (Quit: shadow.ambernova.net <--- Connect to my server via port 6668 and you win The Game!)

  175. <icey123456> thanks for the tip!
  176. <FlyingWatermelon> i actually have aluminum taped to my laptop
  177. <FlyingWatermelon> i dont worry about the walls
  178. <Vinlaell> wow i'ma try that on mine
  179. <FlyingWatermelon> once the signal gets in it comes right to my laptop
  180. <icey123456> i currently dont have aluminum but ill probably figure something out about it tomorrow
  181. <FunctionCreep> ok let me have a look on basic 7, it's been some time since i've done it
  182. <icey123456> can do
  183. <FunctionCreep> ok the easy way to do this is to shutdown the remote machine<FunctionCreep> since you have admin access
  184. <FlyingWatermelon> we tried shutdown /s
  185. <FlyingWatermelon> maybe it will work this time?
  186. <FlyingWatermelon> it works for me
  187. <FunctionCreep> or shutdown /r could work aswell
  188. <icey123456> so try shutdown /s? or r?
  189. <FunctionCreep> shutdown /r is better

  195. <FlyingWatermelon> so probably not
  196. <FunctionCreep> no not again no need for that again
  197. <icey123456> ok cool good awesome
  198. * mischief is now known as HTSUser20859
  199. <FunctionCreep> ok once that procedure is done let me know if that worked
  200. <icey123456> so shutdown /r and for educational purposes what is that going to allow me to do if it works?
  201. <FlyingWatermelon> well, we were trying to get you to UNIX mode
  202. <FunctionCreep> to shutdown the remote machine
  203. <icey123456> ok thats what i thought
  204. <FunctionCreep> since this is a game it will restart on it's own
  205. <icey123456> and i am supposed to enter this into my regular command prompt correct?
  206. <icey123456> i just dont want to mess up
  207. <FlyingWatermelon> right
  208. <FunctionCreep> yep exactly
  209. <icey123456> k cool brb
  210. <FunctionCreep> exactly the same place you entered ipconfig /release
  211. <icey123456> windows will shut down in less than one minute
  212. <FlyingWatermelon> hmm
