Samus Jump

“He’s hit analysis paralysis,” she said. “I’ll take over.”

She grabbed Squirtle by the back of his shell with one hand and held him forward. “This thing shoots water when you tell it to, right?”

Leaf blinked. “Y- Yes?”

“Then have it do so when I’m ready.” She turned to Robin. “Once she’s freed, set the flame.”

Robin was… staggered. Samus held a composure that he’d almost forgotten about, and a confidence in whatever new plan she’d cooked up that he could only dream of.

“Uh…” Leaf nodded to Squirtle. “On her mark, then.”

Squirtle trilled out an understanding. It seemed less bothered by the situation than Leaf did.

Samus bent her knees for a moment, then she launched into the air. It took only a second for her to reach and match the height of the plant’s bulb. When she did, she held Squirtle forward and aimed, the same way she did with her cannon. The monster in her hand took the mark and sprayed a jet of water, right into the plant’s mouth.

The effects were immediate, before Samus had even begun to fall again. The plant hacked and coughed and bent forward. The water poured back out of its mouth, and with each retch, a little more spilled onto the ground. And with each retch, the lump in the stalk moved up a little more.

Finally, after a few coughs with Sheik blocking the entrance to the plant’s throat, it gave one final heave and Sheik spilled from its mouth covered in phlegm and mucus. She rolled to a stop on her elbow and lifted her head, surprisingly conscious, surprisingly quickly.
