  3. ==== READ THIS FIRST! ====
  4.
  5. I try to keep this updated and accurate, but take no responsibility if anything
  6. goes wrong from using the information in this paste. Check the current Vitagen
  7. in case there are recent developments.
  8.
  9. At time of writing, Vita/PSTV systems at 3.68 or lower are hackable, however it
  10. is strongly advised to follow the initial setup guide that only updates to 3.65
  11. if it's an option, since it allows for a startup entrypoint. All versions above
  12. 3.68 are _NOT_ supported! There are _NO_ methods for downgrading! If you update
  13. past 3.65 or 3.68 there's no going back.
  14.
  15. To avoid unwanted updates, keep it in flight mode where possible, make sure any
  16. Internet connections have DNS set to 23.96.6.207, turn off automatic update
  17. downloading (settings->system->auto-start settings), and make sure to choose no
  18. if an update nag appears. Be careful about letting other people play on it.
  19.
  20. Games (and updates) may be subject to firmware requirements. LetMaiDie should
  21. eventually remove this limitation, but for now, some games are not playable on
  22. older firmware (update nag, or C1-6703-6 error on modded systems). Activation
  23. and ability to play legitimate PSN games can be restored with ReNpDrm.
  24.
  25. Finally, don't mess around in your system's filesystem. Stick to ux0:data/ for
  26. homebrew data and VPKs. Only do things on ux0: ur0: uma0: if you know what you
  27. are doing. Don't touch any other paritions unless you want to brick it or you
  28. _really_ know what you're doing.
  29.

  35.
  36. ==== Initial setup (H-Encore, NoNpDrm, Adrenaline, Ensō on 3.65) ====
  37.
  38. This is the prerequisite to everything else. Set this up before reading further
  39. down. As mentioned in READ THIS FIRST!, go with the 3.65 option if you can.
  40.
  41. Note: I am positive that you will need a PSN account at least linked to your
  42. system in order to use QCMA. Activation is not necessary, however it may be
  43. required to factory reset to create/link an account without needing to do a
  44. system update.
  45.
  46. https://vita.hacks.guide/
  47.
  48. Following this will also set up some additional useful utilities. I will assume
  49. that you at least install NoNpDrm and Adrenaline.
  50.
  51.
  52.
  53. ==== PSP and PS1 game loading (Adrenaline) ====
  54.
  55. If you didn't already install it from the initial setup, follow this.
  56.
  57. https://vita.hacks.guide/adrenaline
  58.
  59. Once set up, you can copy PSP ISOs into ux0:pspemu/ISO and they will appear in
  60. Game -> Memory Stick™. Playstation eBoot folders can also be loaded, they need
  61. to be copied to ux0:pspemu/PSP/GAME/

  65.
  66.
  67. ==== Vita games (NoNpDrm + pkgj) ====
  68.
  69. NoNpDrm is the current method for game/update/DLC copying. Older methods like
  70. MaiDumpTool and Vitamin are strongly discouraged. This should've been set up in
  71. the initial setup but refer here if you didn't.
  72.
  73. https://vita.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup
  74.
  75. Refer here for how to dump/install games with it if not using pkgj.
  76.
  77. https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/NoNpDrm
  78.
  79. However the far more straightforward way is to just install pkgj (freeShop for
  80. Vita basically) refer here for download and how to set it up.

  83.
  84. Actual database links you need for the config are found here.

  87.
  88.
  89.
  90. ==== ReNpDrm ====
  91.
  92. Kernel plugin for restoring access to PSN, without it you won't be able to do
  93. system activation, or download/play legitimate games from PSN on old firmware
  94. versions. Download and instructions.
  95.
  96. http://renpdrm.customprotocol.com/release_page.php
  97.
  98. Note: Manually creating a directory ur0:data/rif may be necessary. It shouldn't
  99. be required to disable NoNpDrm though as long as it's loaded before ReNpDRM.
  100.
  101.
  102.
  103. ==== Storage redirection (SD2Vita, PSVSD, USB sticks) ====
  104.
  105. Thankfully there are alternatives to the Vita memory cards. Your options are
  106. the SD2Vita (occupies the game cartridge slot), PSVSD (replaces the 3G card on
  107. 3G Vitas) and regular USB sticks on PSTVs. Whichever you use, it is generally
  108. best if paired with Ensō. Formatting instructions for Linux, and the SD2Vita
  109. kernel module.

  120.
  121. TODO: USB sticks on PSTV.
  122.
  123. Note: Storage should use 64K cluster size or otherwise the system's free space
  124. count will eventually go out of sync with the true amount on larger SD cards.
  125.
  126.
  127.
  128. ==== Custom theming ====
  129.
  130. Themes, link to the installer program, and also how to make your own. Pretty
  131. simple stuff. The theme installer requires unsafe homebrew.

  139. TODO: Document.
  140.
  141.
  142.
  143. ==== Utilities ====
  144.
  145. - VitaShell
  146. https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/VitaShell/releases
  147. An improved molecularShell, notably allows SD card to be accessed via USB and
  148. is also used to "install" NoNpDrm games. Requires unsafe homebrew for certain
  149. functions.
  150.
  151. - Vita Homebrew Browser
  152. https://github.com/devnoname120/vhbb/releases
  153. Should've been installed in initial setup but if not, do it. It's much easier
  154. than sourcing homebrew yourself.
  155.
  156. - RetroArch
  157. http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/playstation/vita/
  158. GO AWAY SQUAREPUSHER but in all seriousness it's the best emulator on Vita.
  159. Install the full VPK instead of individual cores. Don't expect all of them to
  160. perform well though.
  161.
  162. - vitaQuake
  163. http://rinnegatamante.it/site/psv_hbs.php
  164. It's Quake. What more to say? Supports the expansions, mods, and multiplayer.
  165. Some framerate issues for now. Mod selector only in the 2.0 version for some
  166. reason.
  167.
  168. - Another Metroid 2 Remake
  169. https://nicoblog.org/psvita/another-metroid-2-remake-return-of-samus-region-free-vitamin-2-0-ps-vita-vpk/
  170. https://my.mixtape.moe/whtatk.vpk (alt download link)
  171. The fan remake of Metroid II Return of Samus. Absolutely heretical.
  172.
  173. TODO: More stuff!
  174.
  175.
  176.
  177. ==== taiHEN plugins ====
  178.
  179. It is possible to add additional kernel (.skprx) or game plugins (.suprx) if
  180. desirable. Game plugins can be set to load for particular titles, or for all
  181. games. It is also possible to selectively blacklist particular titles from the
  182. *ALL section. Refer below for my config as an example, but the actual format
  183. spec is here.
  184.
  185. https://github.com/DaveeFTW/taihen-parser/
  186.
  187. - Oclock Vita
  188. https://github.com/frangarcj/oclockvita
  189. Game plugin that doesn't overclock per se, but lets you force your Vita to
  190. max speed at the expense of higher battery consumption, or the converse if
  191. you want that. Very recommended for various games with slowdown but doesn't
  192. work with all of them.
  193.
  194. - rePatch
  195. https://github.com/SilicaAndPina/rePatch
  196. Kernel plugin that allows a second level patch folder to override a game's
  197. data files, and also allows DLC patching. Required for game modding on 3.61+
  198. and generally preferrable to the old plaintext patch/ folder trick. Notably
  199. used for the Neptunia Re;translations.
  200.
  201. - pngshot
  202. https://github.com/xyzz/pngshot
  203. Documented in the initial hacking guide. This is just a game plugin that
  204. overrides the regular screenshot function with one that works with all games
  205. always, doesn't include ugly watermarks, and saves lossless pictures.
  206.
  207. TODO: Add more stuff!
  208.
  209.
  210.
