Grettir - Cuts giant weapon in two

He saw a giant lying there, horribly huge and terrifying to look at. As Grettir approached, the giant leapt to his feet and grabbed hold of a pike. He hewed at the newcomer, because with such a pike one can both hew and thrust. The pike had a wooden shaft, and men call this kind of weapon a heftisax. Grettir countered with his sax, and his blow landed on the shaft of the giant's weapon, cutting it in two.
