The creature didn’t bow its legs, it showed no signs of fatigue, but it did seem annoyed. Its body tensed, and a low rumble drifted from its throat. That rumble began to move, up its body into the bulb on its back, which began to quiver in anger. Its petals and leaves shook violently, like they were being buffeted by a powerful windstorm that did not exist.

It all exploded up, from the tip of the bulb came a shower of pollen and powder. It erupted violently, then fell back down slowly. Almost peacefully. Squirtle looked up at the scattering dust with curiosity. Then, his eyes began to fall, and his form began to droop.

“Squirtle, get out of there!” Leaf yelled.

Squirtle lazily turned his head. He seemed to register some amount of Leaf’s command, but was slow on the uptake of actually following them. He took a few, sluggish steps away from the creature, then collapsed onto his chin.

“Squirtle!”
