  2. I have a thought-exercise for y'all. Keep in mind, this is hypothetical.
  3. Let's imagine that Fandom was remaking Achievements with more up-to-date editing activities in mind. Some of the problems with Achievements previously involved rewarding quantity of edits over quality, which we would want to keep in mind.
  4. What sort of editing activities can you think of that should award "points"?
  5. Unai01Today at 4:37 PM
  6. Special:Insights' activities
  7. UrsuulToday at 4:37 PM
  8. Reworking pages entirely, creating pages with a great amount of detail at the start (or followed up quickly after), adding quality images (that could be determined by long term use in articles), cleaning up a great many maintenance items in S:Insights.
  9. I’d rather you have to do a lot for each “point”
  10. Expand a section, expand a page to remove stub, or do a good amount of maintenance tasks before a “point” is awarded
  11. Unai01Today at 4:40 PM
  12. Afaik Mercury API can detect "quality" of pages. So depending of the quality of your edit you could get different amounts of points. ^
  13. UrsuulToday at 4:40 PM
  14. Building templates should also have value depending on their usage
  15. If you build an Infobox from scratch & it ends up being used on a thousand pages for a decent amount of time then you could get 10 points.
  16. “Social” stuff (in the current version you get for blog comments, editing your user page, etc) might also have value in a new achievements system but it’s gotta be even harder to get.
  17. Like maybe 500 discussions posts per point
  18. & it should ignore very short or typo heavy posts maybe
  19. Some way of quality controlling
  20. Unai01Today at 4:46 PM
  21. If there's a will, there's a way. I wouldn't take into account quantity
  22. https://osu.ppy.sh/help/wiki/Performance_Points
  23. Performance Points · wiki · help | osu!
  24. osu! - Rhythm is just a *click* away! With Ouendan/EBA, Taiko and original gameplay modes, as well as a fully functional level editor.
  25. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:51 PM
  26. Prevent the add category editor thing from affecting editcount achievements, although having achievements for adding categories would still be good.
  27. OasisToday at 4:53 PM
  28. also discord bots that do xp usually have an anti-spam feature
  29. so you can't go
  30. dfsjdkf
  31. dfsdfds
  32. sdfds
  33. and etc
  34. and get points
  35. UrsuulToday at 4:53 PM
  36. Anti spam really is the #1 thing
  37. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:53 PM
  38. Ye, maybe something to prevent spam or vandalism edits from awarding points
  39. UrsuulToday at 4:53 PM
  40. Also the customizability of Achievements is garbage
  41. Unai01Today at 4:53 PM
  42. the "anti-spam" feature is 15-25xp per minute
  43. UrsuulToday at 4:54 PM
  44. It’s category based, we need better forms of customizability
  45. Far more parameters for point granting etc
  46. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:54 PM
  47. Support for custom namespaces would be nice
  48. UrsuulToday at 4:54 PM
  49. ^
  50. Unai01Today at 4:54 PM
  51. How about something like IFTTT
  52. if a user does something and something else, he gets the achievement
  53. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:55 PM
  54. Example?
  55. Unai01Today at 4:55 PM
  56. Hmm
  57. UrsuulToday at 4:55 PM
  58. Also please for the love of god kill the lucky Achievement, literally just encourages spam
  59. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:55 PM
  60. Was just about to say that
  61. UrsuulToday at 4:56 PM
  62. No randomization pls
  63. OasisToday at 4:56 PM
  64. also achievements for making all the infoboxes into PIs :mmLol~1:
  65. UrsuulToday at 4:56 PM
  66. That doesn’t reward hard work it rewards luck or spam
  67. Unai01Today at 4:56 PM
  68. "Thank you for the 44k edit, it doesn't make sense but hey, here's an achievement"
  69. OasisToday at 4:56 PM
  70. maybe keep it somewhat random?
  71. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:56 PM
  72. Yes more points for vanguard
  73. UrsuulToday at 4:56 PM
  74. 100 points per Infobox conversion :Kappa:
  75. Unai01Today at 4:56 PM
  76. Points for deleting CC blogs
  77. OasisToday at 4:57 PM
  78. like 30-40 points for a thing, so you can't just spam 35 edits to get a badge
  79. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:57 PM
  80. Points for blocking people :mmLol~1:
  81. OasisToday at 4:57 PM
  82. lmao yes
  83. Unai01Today at 4:57 PM
  84. Points for using AWB :mmLol~3:
  85. UrsuulToday at 4:57 PM
  86. Points for deleting spam & undoing vandalism (if in quantity)
  87. Completely srs
  88. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:57 PM
  89. Hm
  90. What if it's a vandal reverting good edits?
  91. UrsuulToday at 4:58 PM
  92. No points for VSTF though :wowee~1:
  93. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:58 PM
  94. Yes keep vstf excluded
  95. OasisToday at 4:58 PM
  96. you could get a "bad cop, good cop" thing tho
  97. UrsuulToday at 4:58 PM
  98. If you’ve undone edits by someone who ended up blocked you could consider their edits to be vandalous
  99. If they’re removing a lot of content or adding typos or external links that could be identified as vandalism
  100. OasisToday at 4:59 PM
  101. eh
  102. UrsuulToday at 4:59 PM
  103. There are already CVN bots that do so
  104. OasisToday at 4:59 PM
  105. I could fix a typo
  106. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 4:59 PM
  107. It would be great if you could apply for the ability per wiki to moderate achievements, like remove ones the user didn't earn and such
  108. OasisToday at 4:59 PM
  109. and then an admin could undo my edit and block me b/c they don't like me
  110. would that make me considered a vandal?
  111. UrsuulToday at 5:00 PM
  112. Oh yeah definitely have certain types of achievements that can be turned on & off
  113. Turn off vandal achievements, turn on image achievements, make custom achievements
  114. & have advanced parameters for custom achievement triggers
  115. Maybe have retroactive achievements, if activated by admin to be so, & for the love of god let Admins remove achievements
  116. TheGoldenPatrik1Today at 5:01 PM
  117. TBH fandom just needs https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ClueBot_NG
  118. User:ClueBot NG
  119. OasisToday at 5:01 PM
  120. also maybe limiting actions?
  121. like eg, if a user gets into an edit war, or "good cop, bad cop"
  122. OasisToday at 5:18 PM
  123. so you can't just get a lot of badges by editing a lot at once
  124. Unai01Today at 5:28 PM
  125. I'm writing a draft page which contains good ideas for Achievements
  126. So anyone can add their own ideas there
  127. FishTankToday at 5:34 PM
  128. What if local administrators had to approve certain edits manually to ensure quality?
  129. For points qualification purposes, that is.
  130. OasisToday at 5:35 PM
  131. works well in concept until you remember that big wikis exist tbh
  132. like on a small wiki it works fine, but for a big wiki like cc, rsw, or etc?
  133. FishTankToday at 5:37 PM
  134. How about if there was a compromise: edits that machine learning thinks might qualify for points get put into a queue for human review before points can be awarded. The act of reviewing queue items might award points, too.
  135. The bigger a wiki gets, the more points they have in their budget that admins can distribute for "good behavior".
  136. UrsuulToday at 5:41 PM
  137. If the end goal is to have most posts handled by AI then sure
  138. OasisToday at 5:43 PM
  139. ^
  140. SlyCooperFan1Today at 5:44 PM
  141. I feel like that's just describing the Appreciation feature
  142. FishTankToday at 5:44 PM
  143. This is a thought exercise, after all. Perhaps I should say edits that metrically fall under certain conditions that might therefore qualify for points.
  144. UrsuulToday at 5:45 PM
  145. Even so, I’m wary of adding another maintenance task to Admins when we already have so many
  146. & Brandon seemed to indicate that the goal was to reduce rather than increase those
  147. 4Feeds
  148. FishTankToday at 5:48 PM
  149. Perhaps. Perhaps some types of points can only be earned by administrators acting altruistically.
  150. Unai01Today at 6:46 PM
  151. https://communitycouncil.fandom.com/wiki/User:Unai01/sandbox "Done" but it's still a WIP. What do you think? :eyes:
  152.
  153. UrsuulToday at 6:47 PM
  154. Making Achievements great again :wowee~1:
  155. Unai01Today at 6:47 PM
  156. :dagger:
  157. UrsuulToday at 6:47 PM
  158. :trump_pepe:
  159. Unai01Today at 6:47 PM
  160. Fandomize your Achievements :fandonut:
  161. UrsuulToday at 6:47 PM
  162. Muy bien
  163. You mind if I edit that page?
  164. Unai01Today at 6:48 PM
  165. You can
  166. UrsuulToday at 6:51 PM
  167. I think medals for first edit etc is a bit of a bad idea
  168. I’m thinking hardcore quality for medals, should be earned for big things or a large quantity of little things
  169. e.g. rewrite a page or handle a lot of small (but good) maintenance tasks
  170. Otherwise very good so far :ok_hand::skin-tone-1:
  171. HighJewElfKingToday at 9:35 PM
  172. I think adding content to pages that is meaningful, above anything please DO NOT count anything related to categories. With our current system lots of people boosting adding categories to get more achievements
  173. OasisToday at 9:39 PM
  174. have you tried removing their points/warning them/blocking them?
  175. HighJewElfKingToday at 9:43 PM
  176. I've definitely blocked a few people in my days for that but it's a consistent problem on my wiki.
