- “2016-03-24 Evening: 12 Domestic help”
- ---
- Homework: read p. 147 and do p. 146 parts 3 and 4
- Also, p. 143 part 8 (add “just”, “only”, or “even” to the sentences, and say if it’s true in your country)
- ---
- p. 144 - What is the job in the picture?
- Answer the questions in part 2 about the other jobs in the box (with a partner).
- ---
- part 7 - What is the object of “get” or “have”?
- The idea of getting a worker to hand wash your car was unthinkable.
- You can have your car washed for $6.
- You don’t have to be rich to have a cleaner come once a week.
- Another example would be getting your windows cleaned every few months.
- These verbs are called causatives, because they cause someone else to do an action.
- have/get + something + past participle of the action - If you don’t say who does the action.
- You got your hair cut.
- You had your nails done.
- have + someone + base form of the action
- get + someone + infinitive of the action
- - If you say who does the action.
- ---
- What are some other services you might pay for (that aren’t domestic help)?
- I get my laundry done at Cloverleaf.
- Ishmael had his tattoo done.
- Get your ears pierced.
- Have your house renovated.
- Get your house painted.
- Have a new house built.
- ---
