- On the deep blue edge just outside the Mushroom Kingdom lies an independent island-kingdom named Fortunaland. It's mostly known as a pleasure quarter, home to a bustling trove of entertainment, live shows, casinos, you name it. But deep in the heart of Fortunaland lies the house of the royal family, the great Fortuna Mansion, notably home to the ruler of the land, Princess Perignon. Recently, tragedy had struck the Fortuna household; The co-ruler of Fortunaland and well-regarded hero of the land, Prince Krug, had passed away from a fatal illness a few months ago. The Princess was stricken with an intense grief, but had one ace up her sleeve: Once a year, the Princess is capable of granting 3 miracles. The many miracles she was able to bestow upon others were a sight to behold, and drove many to her land just to take witness in her incredible magic.
- But strangely enough, her magic simply didn't work on her dying brother. No matter how hard she tried to enact her miracles, she couldn't bring the beloved prince back into his unjustly stolen mortal coil. After seeking the answers, she finally came upon a revealation: The princess simply wasn't noble of heart enough to bring loved ones back from the dead. In order to one day revive her brother, she had to grant the most noble wishes she could think of. So she enacted a plan. Believing that the most noble hearts in the world would go to extreme lengths for their wishes, she held an open invitation heard around the world that called for those who truly believed in themselves and their causes to head to the Fortuna Mansion to recieve a chance to have their wishes granted. Of course, since Princess Perignon can only grant 3 wishes, one would assume there's quite a troubling complication involved for simply -any- Joe Schmoe to have their wish granted...

- "Kuh. Does that preposterous princess have a presumption of what she's doin'? There ain't no way the winner of no competition or whatever is gonna be pure of heart or any of that mumbo jumbo! For all she knows, the winner could just feel like turnin' the sidewalk into hamburgers for all they care!"
- So goes a rant noted down in a letter given to you and your crew. The anonymous message supposedly comes from a good friend of the princess, but their intentions seem less than holy: They recommend you try any underhanded tactic in the book to make it into the Mansion, and hopefully kidnap the princess for yourself. Whether or not this anonymous tipster merely wants you to prevent a dangerous wish from being granted, or they have sinister intentions themselves is left up to your imagination. Nonetheless, you can choose to ignore the letter's plea if you want, and simply do the right and lawful thing and earn your wish fair and square.
- However, no matter what, you still need some motivation to head towards the Fortuna Mansion, or else the game can't really begin, you dummy.

- SMRPG: The Shadow Princess and the Three Miracles is a rather short campaign, a mystery/suspense thriller slathered in a distinctly Super Mario flavored coat of paint. The exact structure of your party is overall up for you to decide, but it's generally assumed you three have some reason to stick together, whether it be from some prior history or simply for the sake of survival.
