But he was rescued and remounted and the pursuit was checked – thanks to Perceval coming to help his side: Gawain called
on him to yield and abandon the fight, but Perceval was enraged by this and struck Gawain a blow that felled him and his charger together. What a battle followed then! Lancelot was furious and determined to avenge his companion Gawain; but he soon found himself in such straits that he’d have given a thousand marks of gold to escape, as Perceval gave him and the thirty peers a battering that confounded them utterly.
