This is not true unless you consider my brain a large language model. I have put this together on my own without using any AI. I am also having some technical issues i..e I could't put the first drawing into the article where it should be belong but was only able to link to it. I also need some help with references to put in. This article is a bit time-sensitive and I would like to be able to solve this issue and get it up and also get it right. Unfortunately the automated responses are not helpful given that they are not accurate. Appreciate some guidance as I learn how to do this properly. I also have some links to YouTube performances that have not been accepted and thats a bit confusing as well as the links are to direct documentation to what the article is about]
- Abracadabra_La is a vessel for manifesting a desirable urban vision for Los Angeles first unveiled to the public by Harris Hart Silver on February 5th 2024 at the Electric Lodge Theatre in Venice California.
- The project re-imagines the coast of Southern California to have a protected intertidal zone and accessible via human locomotion and a botanical corridor of native plants--a garden path along the Pacific Ocean.

- The 27 mile section of PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) section from the Tunnel (for Motor Vehicles) and Santa Monica bike path for (bikes and e-bikes) through Malibu is an exceptionally dangerous section of road. The deaths of 4 Pepperdine Seniors (Desyn Williams, Asha Weir, Niamh Poslton and Peyton Stewart) on October 17, 2023, who were killed by speeding driver, Fraser Michael Bohm, while walking in Malibu on the shoulder of PCH shocked the city. Their violent unnecessary deaths are part of a pattern of fatalities caused by unsafe conditions on PCH that have persisted for decades of mismanagement and incompetence of multi-levels of government but primarily of Caltrans by not providing save access for pedestrians and cyclists along the coast.
- There have been emergency meetings in Malibu and calls to address the dangerous conditions. Caltrans plans to adding more signs and paint as part of their emergency plan to fix it which won’t make a difference.
- On January 22, 2024 at an emergency Malibu City Council meeting about PCH safety. Council member Paul Grisanti proposed painting undesigned lawn signs on 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood and placing them on private property along PCH. Grasanti produced mock-ups for the other council members to hold. The sign that Grisanti gave to Mayor of Malibu Steve Uhrino as his proposed solution to fix PCH was misspelled. This was a sign indeed. It was a sign that the people’s representatives don’t know how to make PCH Safe. This ridiculous proposal will not make PCH safer.

- ☂On November 4 2024:. Harris Hart Silver unveiled a plan to reduce Pedestrian Fatalities & Injuries by 90% on the Malibu section of PCH at the electric lodge theatre. A PDF of the plan was sent to the city manager of Malibu and Council member Bruce Silverstein. The plan was also published as an article on Harris Hart Silver Substack "Observations of the Natural World" with the title "A plan to reduce fatalities and injuries on the Malibu section of PCH by 90%."
- The Palisades fire of 2025 burned 327 homes west of the beach between Topanga and Carbon Canyon. These former homes which have been reduced to piles of toxic debris have been poisoning the ocean with each high-tide and rain. The structural system of these homes are in the intertidal zone. Which means that there is a clear conflict between private property rights and public property right based on California Civic Codes
- There is now a historic opportunity to preserve approx 10 miles of Los Angeles Coastline.
- <u>Precedents:</u>
- The project is based on the following precedents
- Parks Playgrounds and Beaches for the Los Angeles Region by Olmstead and Bartholomow: La was young wild city in 1927 when it commissioned the landscape architecture firm Olmsted Brothers and Bartholomew Associates —founders of landscape architecture in the the us—to create a plan for los angeles. Their plan published in 1930 included preserving large areas of wilderness in Malibu connected by ribbons of linear parks (parkways).
- Insert Image of Parkway from performance here

- Powerful real estate developers suppressed the plan so they could get rich by impoverishing the city--and they did. Instead of building parkways Los Angeles built highways. Instead of protecting its wilderness Los Anglese desecrated it. Los Angeles paved everything it could and made it impossible to get to beaches safely without cars, which was its original sin.
- The fires are an opportunity to fix this.
- Local Code: By Micheal Sorkin
- Sorkin speaks about urban theories of desirability which this plan is:
- "The design of any good city demands a theory of the desirable. Such theories lodge in a space between nature, culture, technology, politics and economics on the one hand, and a set of physical visions, on the other. All cities are formed by this relationship, whether simple or complex, acknowledged or unconscious. The sprawl of the suburbs embodies a skein of fantasies no less linked to projects of desirability than the texture of Siena or Marrakesh. The problem for architecture is, at any given moment, to be aware of the ecology of such fantasies and to reconcile and express them in physical terms. At the moment, we lack suitable theories of immanence, satisfying visions of how the modern city might be. Allow me to humbly offer a satisfying vision for our city. "
- Tthe first code [11-1.11] from Sorkin's the bill of rights is “The right to human locomotion as the privileged form of mobility” in the built environment.
- Sorkin gives us permission to say that it is an inarguable and unassailable that all beaches should be accessible safely by bike and foot.
- Occupying and connecting: Thoughts on terrirtories and spheres of influence with particular reference to human settlement. By: Frei Otto
- Frei Otto talks about paths and networks. We need to think beyond roads for cars. While there is a public enjoyment and social betterment there is also public safety. There is a clear need for alternative evacuation routes and other paths to move in when natural disasters close off roads to cars.
- Between Pacific Tides By: Edward Ricketts
- Edward Ricketts is the Marine Biologist In John Steinbecks's novel "Cannery Row".
- Ricketts wrote the Log Of The sea of Cortez with Steinbeck which was documentation of a trip of species collecting from Monterey to the Sea of Cortez in 1944. This book is also a result of that trip and is still a textbook for oceanography students today.

- Santa Monica Bike Path:
- Los Angeles is unimaginable without this bike path yet many people don’t know that a smalle group of homeowners prevented its completion for decades.
- Harris Hart SIlver:
- Harris became a voice known for fearlessly telling the truth in Los Angeles after the catastrophic 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires. Posting local news (in the void of local news) with the idea that in order to have better government what is needed is local news. His stories raised awareness to first the palisades while it was still smoldering and then to the ocean to millions of his posts having +22
- million views in 100 days from the fires.
- He showed residents of the city what was happening at Temescal from sunset to PCH from the air. His reporting of a Sea Lion on toxic debris in the intertidal zone between Tuna Canyon and Big Rock in Malibu shocked the city and led CBS News broadcast national news story.
- He also has been raising awareness by writing about and speaking about a plan to have a linear park between Santa Monica and Malibu that would have a protected intertidal zone and a botanical corridor and walking and cycling paths
- He fist unveiled this plan at the Electric Lodge Theatre on February 5, 2024 and has since presented an additional times, he has written about, spoken about it \organized community meetings about his vision to have a linear park from Santa Monica to Malibu to rise out of the ashes while battling the forces of greed and evil along the way.

- Since the fires and after the first community meeting that Silver organized to bring people together to discuss this idea Italian architect and educator Ilaria Mazzoleni and Paola Vazillions along with students Linda Luna and Tracy wong have joined the project as project manager to help push the ideas forward. They expect to have a packet of initial work by the end of May 2025.
- Ilaria Mazzoleni - Project lead and team manager
- Ilaria is an LA based Italian architect and educator. She is the founder of IM STUDIO MI/LA and of Nature, Art & Habitat (NAHR). NAHR’s programs support investigations into this environment producing innovative interpretations of nature as a resilient resource and setting. Ilaria has worked for years on urban projects envisioning solutions addressing the climate crisis in the Los Angeles SoCal region and always wondered why the coastal line is not made more widely available to the public. Joining Harris to develop his vision came as a natural step after the fires to support a more resilient future for our coasts and the need to protect the ocean moving forward.
- Paola Vezzulli - Regenerative habitats strategist
- Paola is a detailed oriented creative thinker successfully implementing projects and ideas in the fields of architecture, urban planning, sustainability and community advocacy.
- Paola is a supporter of Ilaria's work at NAHR. Paola joined the project to bring to the table her expertise in strategy planning and regenerative habitats. Her overarching goal is to collaborate in unlocking new possibilities in order to shape better futures for the humans and the environment.
