- Sources for US mortality statistics, 1900-2020
- For 1900-1993: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/vsus.htm
- >1900-1940: Special summary volume for the period
- >1941-1960: Special summary volume for the period
- >1961-1993: Each year's respective volume on mortality
- For 1993-1998: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/mvsr.htm
- See the annual summary volumes. Unfortunately, I couldn't find final numbers for these years, so I used provisional numbers.
- These were then adjusted based on the pattern observed between the provisional and final numbers in prior years.
- The CDC only has VSUS mortality volumes until 1993 on their website, I looked everywhere.
- Up until this point, all data had to be copied in by hand.

- Do a data request for "Detailed mortality", sort by month
- 2019-2020: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm
- Download the spreadsheet "Weekly deaths by state and age"
- I converted these to monthly.
- If a week overlaps 2 months, say 3 days in Jan and 4 in Feb, I will weight that week's contribution to Jan by 3/7 and Feb by 4/7.
