- >be a fluffy mumma
- >well, you were a fluffy mumma... until a few days ago
- >you decided you didn't like the grassies where you and your foals and husband lived
- >you could see yummy flowers and nummies across the black rock
- >you decided that your family would cross the black rock and get all the nummies you could want
- >the only problem was the metal monsters with glowing eyes
- >they came and went all day and all night
- >but mumma knows best. even though husband told you it wasn't safe, you wanted those nummies
- >sticking your nose in the air, you carried your three babies across the black rock with husband following
- >you thought you had time. you thought it would be safe. but a metal monster came along just before you were across
- >it killed husband, cutting him in half. you remember turning to see his mouth open and close but he didn't speak
- >the other half of him was on the other side of the black rock, the legs still twitching
- >your babies got scared and started to move around
- >you yelled at them to stay still. it wasn't safe for babies! you had to get them to the other side!
- >no! the babies slid off your back! you quickly tried to gather them together... but another metal monster wass coming!
- >it roared at you and made a loud screaming sound. you instinctively got off the black rock but your babies were still there!
- >NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! the metal monster tread all over them! one flew in the air and landed in a splatter
- >the other two were cut in half like husband! you picked one up, its boo boo juice getting your fluff red and wet
- >you tried to cuddle it but it wouldn't move
- >the other foal opened its eyes and its mouth moved like husband's.
- >it feebly tried to crawl to you with just its front legs, its rear ones flattened
- >it stopped moving. it made no sound.
- >then you heard another monster coming. you had no choice but to get off the black rock
- >sobbing, you disappeared into a nearby bush. you laid there for a long time, thinking about your babies and husband
- >five days later you decide to go exploring your new home
- >there are flowers everywhere and a huge place with plenty of fresh nummies growing
- >some of them are bitter but some of them are soooo tasty!
- >you still wish husband was here to share with you
- >you wander further from your new nest under the flower bush. you spot a few humans.
- >you don't trust humans. they're mean to fluffies. you quickly hide when they grow near
- >you remember husband telling you that your color like the grass helps you to hide from them
- >it works. they never notice you.
- >you wander across a large field with many tall grassies. you have to be careful so you can find your way back and not get lost
- >that's easy... there's a big flapping yellow thing over where your flowers are
- >"McNathan's Nursery" - you don't know what that means but you can see it from a ways away.
- >crossing the field you spot a yellow flowery bush. there's a fluffy family there!
- >it's a mumma and her foals. one... two... three... four? four! you're a smary fluffy. you can count to four.
- >you don't see a husband.
- >and four foals. that's too many for any fluffy
- >you look down at your teats, swollen with milk. aching to have a baby drink from them
- >you begin to formulate a plan.
- >you hunker down in the tall grass, invisible to anyone looking your way
- >you wait patiently. you have nothing but time on your hooves now.
- >it gets dark. the mare carefully plucks her four tiny foals up and puts them on her back
- >just the way you used to...
- >no. concentrate. pay attention.
- >she disappears down a tunnel under the bush
- >you continue to wait
- >the white sky ball moves through the night. it hangs high above you.
- >it's time.
- >you silently approach the tunnel and peer in.
- >typical of fluffies, it only goes down about two feet then opens into a chamber
- >there is a round bowl shape at the bottom of the tunnel to collect rainwater
- >the chamber's floor is covered with soft bits of moss, leaves, and even a few blankies
- >probably stole them from a human, you think to yourself
- >the mare lays on her side. all four foals lay buried in her fluff, snoring lightly
- >you have to do this quickly, carefully, silently
- >you approach and take the closest foal, a pink pegasus filly
- >you grab her by the neck to prevent her from chirping for help and hurry out of the den
- >you run like you've never run before, the tiny foal fluttering its wings rapidly and moving its legs to try to get away
- >no, you won't let it get away. it's yours now.
- >it's hard to find your way back in the dark, but you finally spot the yellow flapping thing
- >it guides you back to your new home under the flower bush. although you haven't dug a tunnel yet, you've made a comfy nest
- >you plop the filly down in it and smile at her
- >she immediately starts peeping and calling for her mother.
- >silly baby. YOU'RE her mother.
- >"eeeeeeeeeee! wan mama! wan mama! eeeeeeeeeee! eeeeeeeeeeee!"
- >"shhh babeh. mumma hewe."
- >"wan mama! wan mama!"
- >silly baby. she needs to feed. that's okay.
- >you pull the struggling foal to you, the light from the white sky ball illuminating you both
- >you force her mouth down on one of your swollen teats
- >after a few minutes the foal finally stops crying and starts to drink
- >you hold her there for a while and close your eyes. everything is good. everything is fine. mumma knows best.
- >you hear a coughing and gagging sound. the foal has pulled away from your teat and is spitting milk out!
- >silly baby! don't waste milk!
- >"mumma wuv babeh. babeh wuv mumma?"
- >"wuh... wuh..."
- >"wuv?"
- >"wahhhhhhhhh! wan mama! eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
- >it starts chirping again. loud. you can't have that. the mother might hear.
- >no. YOU'RE her mother. but something still might hear. you hug the baby tightly, muffling her cries against your fluff
- >she finally stops struggling and crying. exhausted and her tummy full, the filly falls asleep in your fluff
- >you fall asleep soon after, dreaming of many babies. so many babies. all of them love you and call you mumma.
- >mama
- >MAMA!
- >*cheep cheep cheep!*
- >you open your eyes. it's daytime. you can see and hear humans moving around outside the flower bush
- >the baby! no wonder you woke up... she's started chirping for... some reason.
- >"mama! mama! pwease wan mama!"
- >"mumma hewe! babeh haff miwlk."
- >"nuu mama!"
- >"AM mumma! you dwink miwlk!"
- >"nuu! wan mama!"
- >you're getting angry now. why is your baby being so mean?
- >you smack her across the muzzle with your hoof
- >a little boo boo juice comes out of her nose and she starts crying.
- >OH NO! what have you done? you didn't mean...
- >you pick up the struggling baby and hug her, cooing to her, telling her you didn't mean it
- >she just cries and cries, trying desperately to get away
- >you hold her mouth down on your teat again, forcing her to drink. that will quiet her for a while.
- >you breathe a sigh of relief. the humans were getting too close. they might have heard her noises
- >the baby finishes drinking. it stops making sad noises but won't look at you.
- >silly baby. don't be sad. mumma is right here!
- >that's when you hear another fluffy's voice
- >"babeh? whewe babeh? babeh hewe?"
- >it's the mare! she's followed the scent of her... YOUR baby!
- >the filly must have heard her, or smelled her, too... she starts chirping again!
- >NO! she'll ruin EVERYTHING!
- >you hold the baby tightly to your fluff, whispering to her to be quiet. a bad fluffy is nearby
- >the other mare bursts into your flower bush! NO! this is YOUR bush!
- >"wat u wan? dis my pwace yuu stupid fwuffy!"
- >"yu take babeh. giff back."
- >"dis MAH babeh!"
- >"nuu! dat mah babeh! you take! you bad meanie fwuffy!"
- >"nuu! you haff too many babehs!"
- >"wha... wha wong wiff babeh?"
- >"wha yuu talkin bout... fwuffy..."
- >oh no.
- >you look down at the foal that had been struggling in your arms
- >it's limp. not breathing.
- >oh no, not again
- >that's not fair. mumma knows what's best.
- >"yuu... yuu kiwll babeh. you giff bad huwty to babeh!"
- >"i... i... babeh nuu be quiet. twy to make hushies..."
- >"yuu kiwll babeh!"
- >she starts sobbing
- >"well, dat's wut yu get! take stupid babeh! babeh dummy anyway!"
- >you toss the limp foal at her. it bounces off her head and lands on the ground with a plop
- >the mare looks at your with anger. like nothing you've seen before.
- >"i... i..."
- >"i kiwll yu."
- >no...
- >she lunges foward, pounding her front hooves into your head.
- >you feel a crack and something warm and wet dripping down the side of your face
- >you scramble to get away but she bites your tail and pulls you backwards, then jumps on your back
- >"nuu! nuu! gee off! yuu bad fwuffy!"
- >"YUU bad fwuffy! yuu kiwll babeh! yuu bad! YUU!"
- >she's biting at your ears, your neck, tearing out pieces of fluff and exposing your tender skin
- >panting, you finally manage to throw her off. you back up. seeking an escape.
- >"huuuuu... huuuuu... you meanie fwuffy... jus wan be mumma again... huuuuuuuuuu"
- >"yuu bad mumma. peppa gwad yuu nuu any babeh mumma."
- >she charges again, kicking you over and over
- >you fall to the ground. bleeding, sobbing, exhausted.
- >Pepper doesn't even say anything. she delivers a few more well-placed hooves to your head
- >everything goes black
- >your eyes open. Pepper is gone. the dead foal is still there. you hurt bad all over
- >you can't move your jaw. it doesn't work. your head hurts so bad
- >"Here it is. I thought I smelled something."
- >"Is it still alive?"
- >"Don't think so. Dead foal here, too."
- >"Huh. You were right about the shit, though. Damn, that's a foal smell."
- >"Great fertilizer, though. Get a shovel, we'll add that to today's mix."
- >"What about them?"
- >"Tomorrow's trash day."
- >"What killed them?"
- >"Looks like another one of them. See the hoof marks?"
- >"Huh. Well that's a shame."
- >"Forget it. They breed like rats."
- >you're vaguely aware of something picking you up, putting you in a black thing with some junk and bad-smelling things
- >you try to talk but you can't get the words out.
- >you feel the body of the foal bounce off your head and land next to you
- >there's light above you, then it becomes dark
- >somehow, in the darkness, you find the foal's body and hug it tightly
- >you drift away again, one last time.
- >sometimes mumma doesn't know best
